72 Hours on a Celebrity’s Private Island

A YouTube video by Nate and Kara Buchanan documenting a multi-day stay on Mosquito Island (a private island in the British Virgin Islands). The video provides a detailed estate tour (the Village and other estates), highlights luxury amenities and personalized service, introduces their 17-person team across multiple businesses, and covers group activities (water sports, beach Olympics, dinners, sunset events and nighttime snorkeling). The piece mixes travel/adventure storytelling with behind-the-scenes team retreat footage and product sponsorship mentions.

A few months ago, I got an email about visiting a place called Mosquito island. And I almost ignored it because, well, the name didn't exactly draw me in, but that would have been one of the biggest mistakes of my entire life. Mosquito island is a private island in the British Virgin Islands with just a handful of homes, mostly built and owned by billionaires. Unfortunately, we are sworn to secrecy, so we can't name drop. But let's just say some of these people, well, most of these people are a pretty big deal. You've probably heard of them or at least one of the companies that they've started. In this video, we're going to be giving you a full tour of the estate as well as showing you around the rest of the island. This is one of those once in a lifetime experiences that we owe you a massive thank you for. There is no way we would have ever been invited here if there weren't almost 4 million of you subscribed to this channel. So from Kara and I, we would like to say thank you so much for giving us this incredible opportunity. But over the next few days, we will not be alone. And there are a few more people that that want to say.
Good morning. We have stayed in some pretty insane places, but this is a level of luxury that we have never experienced. Just look at this view. But if we get tired of looking at the view, which we won't, we could just press the button here on this remote and the TV literally comes out of the four.
This is nuts.
This place is absolutely insane and we cannot wait to show you around. But it is so much more than just an epic estate in a beautiful location. This is a level of personalization and service that I didn't even know existed. You'll see what I mean as the day goes on. But first, let us get caffeinated and then we'll show you around.
Wow. We have this whole place to ourselves for one day.
It is a good thing we invited some other people.
Thank you.
Oh, wow.
Oh, how beautiful. I don't think I can handle all of your kindness all by myself.
Check out these boats that are sailing just literally right underneath our room. Okay, so we have a few hours until our new guests arrive. And even though this place is absolutely massive, we're going to do our best to give you a full tour before everyone gets here. But there's a lot going on. So let me give you a little bit of the layout. As I mentioned before, this is a private island made up of a handful of estates and the one that we're staying in is called the village and our room is the Hay Point master suite which is at the very end villages putting us on the tip of the island and giving us this absolutely incredible view. So we'll start the tour here in our room and then work our way back through the property. You are not ready for this. Real quick one say big thank you to T Mobile for sponsoring this video. Back in 2016 we had $35,000 in our bank account and we booked a one way flight to Japan with the plan of traveling for a year or until the money ran out. And what was supposed to be a one year trip turned into eight years of full time travel and we are still going today. We are leaving Bangladesh and flying to our 98th country of Bhutan. And the closest had to a full time home during the last eight years was the van that we spent two years living in during the pandemic. Now that it's ours, it really does kind of feel like a next chapter. So we have spent a lot of time traveling both domestic and abroad. And over the last eight years we have been on a quest to find the best phone plan that fits our unique lifestyle. We have tried a lot of different phone plans over the years and we have finally landed on T Mobile because they have the largest and fastest 5G network in the US and and they give us high speed Data in over 215 different countries with no data or roaming charges. So almost no matter where we find ourselves in the world, T Mobile keeps us connected and we're on a crazy adventure like biking across the us it ensures that we can share that adventure in real time from the road. And then when we're traveling abroad, there is nothing better than landing in a new country and having your phone automatically connect to the Internet. That takes so much stress out of the travel experience. And then after we get off the plane we use our phones to do things like find a good restaurant to eat at. Then Kara reads every review of the restaurant that we're about to eat at because there is nothing worse than being in a new country and wasting a meal on bad food.
It's burned into my tongue right now and in my nose like it's like all in my sinuses. We need to find something else to eat.
And last but not least, I cannot tell you how many of these videos that we have uploaded on our phone. There have been multiple times in the US and abroad where the Wi fi is super slow and the only reason that we got the video up on time is because we were able to upload from our mobile network. So if you're a traveler like we are or you just want the fastest 5G network in the US, definitely check out T Mobile. We will leave a link in the description below or you can scan the QR code here on the screen to learn more about how T Mobile can support your next adventure.
Okay, here we go. My first ever estate tour. The primary suite is made up of five different rooms and they are all connected via a wraparound deck. So we will start here in room number one, which looks like a hotel reception desk, but really this is just our office with this view. Yesterday we were greeted with this welcome basket, but these aren't your typical welcome gifts. We each got a pair of Gooder sunglasses. Someone from the company actually came here to perfectly match the color of the sunglasses to the cacti that's on the island.
So this is the color.
How did they do.
That's actually so close. That's crazy.
How cute is this hat? And we get to keep everything when we leave. If you'll follow me this way. This door leads you to the primary bedroom. You already saw a little of this this morning. Obviously the bed is super comfy, but I feel like I need to do the official bed test.
Oh, it passes. And of course you already saw the TV that lives on the floor, but look how hidden this is. You would never know that this is here. All these big things are obviously really cool, but sometimes it's about the little things. It goes without saying the view from the bedroom is spectacular. But what I love the most is is that the doors literally disappear during the day. We got some inside information yesterday. Apparently they are in the middle of building a hot tub that hangs off of this cliff over the ocean and it's going to have a glass bottom.
What?
Please like and subscribe and leave a comment below so we can be invited back here when that is complete. Because I have to experience that. You can pretty much choose your own adventure when you're going from room to room. You can take the doors or you can just stay on the deck to go to room number three, which is the bathroom. Obviously the main attraction in here is the tub, but do you notice anything that's missing on this tub? The faucet is on the wall because.
It'S a waterfall tub. I've never seen this before. It really makes me want to think about.
It's one of those things that's actually a little inconvenient because the water kind of splashes all over the floor. But Totally worth it for the wow factor.
Okay, so for the rest of the bathroom, we'll start over here in this gigantic closet. I could literally do a cartwheel. I might hurt myself.
And here we have the shower.
I'm picturing some big pterodactyl bird thing.
The whole thing is made of this luxurious, shiny marble. Oh, best of all, your fanbots, so you can look at the view on your. Nate and I have our own vanities, which are so far away from each other.
Pass the toothpaste. We actually do share toothpaste, which makes this a little inconvenient.
Thanks, babe. Welcome to the pool house. That's what we're calling this room because obviously it overlooks pool number one. Yes. There are multiple pools, and you need to remember this pool specifically. We are going to be coming back here later in the tour in a very unique way. My favorite part of the pool house is the wine fridge. This is not your average mini bar. They have stocked this bridge full of very nice wine, and it's all included. We could drink all of this if we wanted to. We're going to try not to do that this week.
All right, that does it for our room. We still have so much more to show you. And if you thought this room had some unique features, just wait till you see the rest of video the this place.
So directly behind our suite is a staircase that leads us to the main pavilion and the end of the stairs. So the main pavilion is basically like a massive common area in the middle of the estate. Pretty much the ultimate space to bring together tons of people to hang out. Speaking of tons of people, this is our first of several dining tables where you can sit and eat with 20 of your friends. Over here, we have this magnificent infinity pool that wraps all the way around the pavilion. You'll see the pool becomes a major theme in this tour because there's just so much of it. If you'll follow me into the pavilion, we have a much smaller dining table. This is where we had lunch when we arrived yesterday, and it's where I got my first taste, literally, of Chef Mac's cooking. It was a delicious Vietnamese themed lunch. And let's just say I might be in love with Chef Max. Sorry, Nathan. The centerpiece of the main pavilion is this art installation. As you can see, it's made of wood, but they're all lined with LED lights. Last night, we were playing with the iPad that controls the lights, and you can basically turn these whatever color you want. There's even a woman dancing, like, going like this. Who would even think to invent that? Now, the whole reason this art installation is here is because it's covering up this spiral staircase.
It's basically like a boat in the sky. Or if you're looking from above, it looks like an eyeball. The little blue platform sitting down in the grass is for hitting golf balls. Like, not real golf balls, but fish food golf balls into the ocean. And then that's where the mochi dropped us off yesterday. We got cold towels as we were walking in right there. Came down the walkway, got a nice glass of champagne, and now we'll take you back downstairs. We have actually heard a rumor. It is not verified, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was true that there are a million dollars worth of speakers in this estate.
There is a private bartender, which will make you a drink anytime you like. But because this is a home and not a resort, I can just come back here and be my own bartender.
It's basically like being at a private, all inclusive resort that is perfectly personalized just for you. Like, before we got here, we filled out a form. We said what we wanted to eat, we said what we like to drink. It's all here.
As we walked in yesterday, there were.
Already.
Small snacks, which we will not say the name, waiting for us here at this table. All ingredients that I love and requested.
What would you call the small food? These are your canapes. All right, I'm taking notes. I'm taking notes for reference. The top comment on the Canadian train video was how I pronounced that word. We enjoyed happy hour and canapes. Oh, wait, where is she going?
You know the little snacks that are in hotel rooms that cost like, $25 for a granola bar? You can just eat these snacks whenever you want, and they're all included.
Last night, they actually moved all these lounge chairs and put our dinner table right here in the pool. So romantic and beautiful. And we had the most decadent four corner course Japanese dinner.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. We love Chef Mac.
The coolest part is that with each course, Chef Mac would come out here and explain what the dish was and tell us a few of his culinary secrets. And I just ate it all up. Literally and figuratively.
Yes, you did.
Nate was definitely my only focus the whole night.
She does this hook stuff in the middle. Yeah.
Okay, so the dining pavilion.
Wait. Do you realize what you just walked on? These giant speakers on either side are a hint.
Should we keep it a secret?
Just a real quick sneak peek.
Three, two, one.
I can't wait. Moving on. Obviously, the dining pavilion is home to the biggest, best dining table, which was very lonely at breakfast this morning, but thankfully, we're going to be filling it up very soon. Behind the table, I can already smell it. Is the kitchen where Chef Mac creates his Mac.
Oh, my goodness. More Chef back.
Super fun detail. Below the kitchen, there is an herb garden where they're picking all of our fresh herbs for our meals this week. Chef Mac himself goes down. There goes them. And talks to the plants and make sure they taste extra good. These stairs lead us to bar number two at the pool. Once again, I can come down here anytime and make a beverage, serve it right up to people. I love the way this hot tub makes this area feel. It's really a vibe with all the bubbles. But I don't think we will be getting in there because it's hot.
Now.
I told you to remember pool number one. So, Nate, do you want to do the honors?
That was way faster than I thought it was going to be. And the grand finale of the pool is definitely the grotto, and it's just an underground tunnel. And then up through this hole, you can actually watch people swimming in the pool above. Also, a little seating area in here with some nice candles. And then this tunnel leads us to the first of a few different guest.
Rooms that we'll show you by the end of today. We are going to fill up all the rooms in this whole estate. So before everybody gets here, we're going to show you one from each category of rooms. Yes, there are three different categories. There are the lookouts, the treetops, and the hideouts. This is one of the hideout rooms located under the main pavilion with an epic view. And look at this sailboat.
Perfectly framed in this room.
Perfectly framed.
Also, we're not the only ones that got welcome gifts. All the guests get these fun little goodie bags.
Kitchenette slash closet.
That's pretty good.
Not bad.
All right, from here, we'll head over to one of the treetop rooms. Also, the guy that owns this house is from Devon in the UK and all of these stones actually came from his hometown. And then they turned them into a wall.
I thought that was a snake.
This is the treetop room. We currently have the sofa converted into a bed. Because we're going to have a full house this week, no room in this entire estate has a bad view. That brings us back to the bathroom. Almost every shower in this entire place can either be indoor or outdoor.
The third and final room type is the lookout, as you can see, very appropriately named. I really Love the two walls that just disappear. This is the best seat in the house. All right, that is it for the bedroom. We just have two more rooms to quickly show you.
The AC is cranking in here, as it should be. Welcome to the gym. I actually came here yesterday today into a little workout. I did a little nourish move love video, and I cranked the new Taylor Swift cd.
Oh.
Okay. So now you know I'm old.
Okay, you ready? This room is probably what surprised me the most. It might be my favorite room. I don't know. I can't think of any. Are you ready?
That. Wow. I love that space so much.
This.
Please tell me it's locked.
Welcome. This isn't just any theater room. The walls are all speakers.
You can feel it in your chest. There are over 100 speakers in these walls. Okay, that's it for the tour. We are going to have a quick lunch and then everybody should be here any minute. It is going to be so special to get to share this place with so many people. Cheers.
Life is good. As exciting as this is, it's a little sad because all of our guests were supposed to be here by lunchtime. Unfortunately, we've heard that they've had some flight cancellations and delays and they're all stuck on the mainland.
Don't worry, guys. We're enjoying it extra for you.
Brendan, go ahead and get some Excite drink. It's dramatic. It's. It's something.
Well, the whole daily drop team survived about a six hour delay, but morale is now high. So we're on our way to Mosquito island to seek our name.
For lunch, we're having Korean fried rice topped with a fried egg and some grilled tof.
Everyone's almost here.
We're over here.
They're here. Finally.
Thank you, everybody. I'm sorry the travel day was a bit challenging, but welcome to the village on Mosquito, Iowa. Cheers. Cheers. Cheers. Cheer.
Okay, so everyone who has just arrived is our entire team across all three businesses and you may be supporting. Surprised to learn that not including Cara and myself, we have 17 people on our team. If you're curious about what everyone does, I'll quickly introduce you. If you don't care at all and you just want to watch us have fun on this island, skip to the time here on the screen. Austin runs day to day of the entire Fair Drop organization. Brian is our lead developer and has built most of what you see on the Fair Drop app. Ally makes sure the right deals get sent out to the right people every single day. You may recognize my brother Dusty from some of our more physically demanding videos. And now he's currently running day to day Daily Drop. His wife Sarah is the friendly voice behind our customer service team. And if you've ever seen one of our ads for Fair Drop or Daily Drop, that was probably Emily's work, who's our head of marketing. If you've ever watched the Daily Drop video, you probably already know Brendan. And this is his wife Erin, who works behind the scenes to help bring those videos to life. Then we have Tiffany, who probably doesn't get enough credit as a contributing writer to the newsletter and has written most of the posts that you see on the Daily Drop website. Then there's McKay, who's currently working working on a secret project. More on that soon. Now transitioning to the YouTube side of things, we have Brooke, who has been our lead editor for almost four years now. She's probably Kara's second favorite person in the world behind her sister. And Shannon, who is our chief problem solver. She does everything from helping us book travel to working with companies to make these videos come to life. She is my right hand person and I don't know what I would do without her. This is Tony and Sarah. They were the winners of the Fair Drop dream job. So they're the new faces of the Fair Drop YouTube channel. They've already posted a few videos over on that channel, so you should definitely go check them out. After you watch this video, I will leave a link down below where you can find those. And then there were three people who sadly couldn't make it. Mike, who is our head writer at Daily Drop. Megan, who is our amazing community manager, and Ott, who is our other editor. He does way more than just animations, but if you've noticed an upgrade in our graphics over the last year, he gets all the credit. And that is everyone. We have such an amazing team and we are so grateful to get to share this experience with with everyone who's here.
All right, today is beach day. There is a shared water sports area between all the estates here on the island with all kinds of fun toys. So we're heading down there now. We're going to pick up the Hobie cats and then we're going to sail to the most beautiful beach on the entire island to spend the day.
Cara.
Yes.
All right, Kara, step up here.
It feels so wrong leaving the estate, but I think it's going to be.
A a good day.
Party. You make it look easy.
Easy. It is easy. We just learned that our captain is an Olympic wind surfer. So I feel like we're in pretty good hands. But you know what? In the Caribbean, you know what I say? Don't believe everything you hear. N.
Rumors then spreading. I don't know what to believe anymore.
Thank you, captain. Who may or may not have been in the Olympics.
Pretty much all of the most exciting beach toys that you could want are here. The e foils. This thing is like an underwater sea doo. The hobie cats, kayaks, paddle boards, all the snorkel gear. So the only challenge that I have ever failed on this channel was attempting to e foil across the English channel. So we're going to consider this practice for a redemption video one day.
It feels like I'm in a movie right now. There are people flight boarding, snorkeling, kayaking. I cannot believe this is our life.
It's chaos. It's chaos. This has to be a record amount of people on the water. Trampoline.
For lunch today, we are doing the most ridiculous beach barbecue that I have ever seen. So we have margarita marinated shrimps and tofu grilled on the barbecue. Then we have some Wagyu 5 burgers. There's no sauce there, cuz the beef should be that juicy, just doesn't need any sauce. And some noodle salad with pickled cabbage. Then some brussels sprouts, really finely sliced peanut dressing, classic grapefruit, watermelon dressing with coriander, a little feta, and some mint.
Chef Mag, now we let this down.
All right, Brendan, if you had to pick a favorite from lunch, I'm gonna go with the noodle salad. Yeah. Kind of new to me, but it was pretty good. Sarah, favorite food, noodle salad. Shannon, think the noodles. Noodles all around. Carol was your favorite.
There is a lot of luxurious stuff going on this week, but if I'm being honest, this is probably what I was looking forward to most. We are about to do team beach Olympics. The idea behind this is it's like a bonding exercise. I think it might go in the opposite direction because Kara and I tend to get a little competitive. So there's some people that I'm gonna be a lot closer to, and then some people who are gonna be on my bad side after this. Okay, so we've been broken up into two teams. We've got the Flamingos, which is my team, and then we've got the Lemurs, which is Kara's team. Whatever it takes, I think we got this.
Lemurs on three.
One, two, three. Lemurs. We ready? All right.
One, two, three.
Yeah, we're going, baby. Let's go.
Now. Nate, stop it.
All right, we ready? One, two, three.
Walking back. Let's go. You got this. Let's go. Take a step. Let's go. Go.
Let's be the first ones. Like, as soon as he says go, just yank. That was a good one. They came back up. They win. I like it. I like how everything's going right now. We're tied two out of three. This is for the championship. One, two, three. Yeah, we got it. No problem, Dustin. Guys.
I won.
I think my hands aren't gonna work the rest of the Olympics.
Don't let this ring us down, guys.
This is called a three legged race. You're going to spin the paddles. Make sure you do it three times. Three times. Drop it. You and your partner are going to put your legs inside the life jacket like this. And then you're going to raise the rock. Raise to that tree.
All right. It has been a long, hard battle. We are tied one to one. And this is the final challenge of the Beach Olympics. Karen and I have had quite a bit of practice kayak racing. Unfortunately, we've been split up into separate teams, though, so I'm not sure who gets the advantage.
Not gonna lie, don't tell the flamingos, but this is my weakest, my weakest activity, so I'm not feeling too good, but I'm gonna give it my all.
Are we ready? Let's go.
Let's go.
Keep going on the right. Keep going.
All right, out, out, out.
Feel like we really let the team down there, Brian. It was a good effort. I think that's two more times I've ever flipped on a kayak before. Too much muscle is the problem, right?
This is my family, so if they won, I win.
I'd like to thank my mom. It's one of about three times my entire life that I've beaten eight in something. I'll never forget it.
That is what I was looking forward to most, and it did not disappoint in the slightest. So much fun.
Okay, everybody's friends again. We've all put aside our differences and we are actually heading to one of the other estates for sunset. There are four estates for rent here on the island, and the one we're going to tonight for cocktails and for dinner is called the Point. So you've seen all the details of this one, and we'll quickly show you around the Point when we get there. The next event in the Beach Olympics. Can you hold the drink all the way to the Point without Spilling a drop of it.
Yes.
This is gonna happen. Wow. There are waterfalls each side of the entrance to the point est.
Cheers. Cheers.
I don't know why I expected anything less. The sun is setting. We are in yet another mind blowingly beautiful estate in the British Virgin Islands. I mean, literally every moment I'm pitching myself and then I look at someone else smiling and it like, brings tears to my eyes, genuinely.
Oh, look at this hand carved map of the world on the ceiling.
There's a guy playing a flute on top of the infinity pool. What is this?
We truly do have a team color here at Bear Drop.
This was not planned.
I genuinely had no idea this was happening. I just thought we were coming here to have dinner, and now we're getting a private concert by two local artists. Life is just insane right now.
This is the best night of my life. I never want this day to end.
How are you guys tonight? Awesome. So we have prepared a southeast feast, so everything's southeast Asian base. We do have salmon, and then you'll see this tofu that looks like salmon. And we have a beautiful isan, which is from the northeast of Thailand. Cucumber salsa. We have a beautiful vegetarian jungle curry. Our biggest issue tonight is figuring out which food is which, which is a pretty good problem to have. Kara.
Hey, babe.
How's the food?
So good. 10 out 10, 11 out of 10. Chef Mac, my love grows for him.
Oh, my goodness.
Believe it or not, I've rallied the troops to go night snorkeling.
You're taking credit for this?
I mean, are you ready for it?
Yeah.
Wish me luck. Here we go.
Nice work.
What happened?
Oh, just no big deal. We just swam with a sweet mommy turtle for a little while.
Did you?
Yes. And I wasn't even cold. Most importantly.
What? I know. I feel like that's a good way to end today.
Yeah. One of the best days I've ever had.
I'm sure they're talking business and strategizing all those pool floats. Good morning. Or should I say afternoon? We've had a nice chill morning so that everyone can recover from our big day yesterday. We're doing sushi for lunch at the swim up bar. We're fueling up for the next big competitive activity, which I think everybody will take a little less seriously. The good news about today, though, is everyone is still friends.
Okay, I know I've said this a million times already, but this is the best day ever. It truly did just keep getting better. They told me it would. I didn't believe him. Swim up Sushi bar is seriously my dream. But the best part is we have so many other fun things planned today, and it's ending in the biggest, best grand finale. I'm, like, so excited for tonight, but I also don't want it to be over. So I'm feeling very conflicted right now.
That looks so good.
I know how to.
Beautiful. Having flashbacks to the desert island.
I can't do it anymore. Cheers.
So in addition to a shared water sports area on the island, they also have two shared tennis courts. And we are about to play a version of tennis that I have never played before. They call this tipsy tennis. Hopefully, same teams as yesterday, we can get a little redemption.
So for those of you who don't know, Nate is the most competitive person I've ever met in my life. Nate actually played tennis in high school, and once he played so hard that both of his calves cramped up and he had to go to the hospital. That gives you any idea of how serious he gets when it comes to sports. Our lemurs are going to win.
Here we go.
Got it.
Oh, no. Oh, no. Oh, no.
Good job.
That's it, girlfriend.
Yes.
Yes.
Who gave her a microphone?
Nathan, how's it feel to lose to me two days in a row?
Brennan and I were too good, and they split us up, so.
But you still lost. Can you just say it? Can you just tell me?
At some point, we all forgot about the lemurs and the flamingos. That's now become guys versus girls, husbands versus wives. Here we go.
Here we go. She's on fire.
All right. And now for the grand finale of the evening.
Let the party begin. Yes. I'm dressed as a flamingo.
Sam.
Me.
I can't believe what I'm about to show you.
Do you see what that says?
I felt like I was living in a movie or a music video or something, but not real life.
Best night of my life.
What a night. After the dancing, we moved on to karaoke.
I never wanted to be over.
Thanks for watching. Thanks for giving us this opportunity. Thanks for giving our team this opportunity. And also, if you have a special birthday coming up or your company wants to do a retreat or something, ask your boss. We'll leave Mosquito island down below.
I mean, not every boss is like us, but you can try.
