Kara and Nate Buchanan cross from Argentina into Chile by bus, hit a stressful border delay, and discover four days of video footage has no audio. They arrive in Puerto Natales hungry and exhausted, ending the day with Valentine's pizza at Base Camp.
Chapters
Today ends our time with southern explorations in the Patagonia region of Argentina. This past week was so much fun with them and we're really sad to leave.
They sent a driver to take us from our hotel to the bus station.
At 8am.
We were off to Puerto Natales, which is a town in the Patagonia region of Chile, about five hours away.
Up until this point the day was going really smoothly and the long bus ride was going great because we finally had time to catch up on some editing until this happened.
We just got stamped out of Argentina, took about two seconds and we were told to get back on the bus. So I assume now we're going to drive into Chile where we'll get stamped into the country. Also.
On that bus ride, we just came to the realization that over the past four days we have recorded no audio on any of our video. Tears were shed, stomachs felt sick. I don't think now is the right time to like go into a full explanation, but maybe later today. Needless to say, we are both incredibly disappointed right now, especially this one. On second thought, by the time you watch this, you will have already seen four days of us narrating videos and hopefully we will have posted a video explaining what happened. But just know that now is the point where we came to the realization that we didn't have audio on that bus ride.
Hopefully the rest of the vlogs are back to normal now.
Alright, we gotta get back on the bus and go to Chile.
So we just arrived at the Chilean border. Not exactly sure what just happened. We were told to get off the bus and go to border patrol. We stood in a line there for about five minutes and now we were just told to get back on the bus and we have not gone through the border yet.
And now it's leaving us. Kind of feel like I'm back in Asia.
After we were told to get back in the bus, we have since been waiting here for about 45 minutes. Nobody's moved. Not really sure what we're waiting on. A lot of people are accumulating behind us.
The worst part about this is we don't have any food.
And it's.
1:45. I thought we're supposed to get there at 1:30 so we didn't pack a lunch. I was already pushing it.
Now it's going to be even later.
I'm still very depressed about the volume situation.
Never seen a sheep with a tail.
It is now 1:15, which means we've been here for about an hour and 15 minutes. Still have no clue what's going on, but we have moved up about the length of one bus. Bad thing is there are still two buses in front of us, so at this rate, we'll be here till about 3 o'. Clock. Also, I'm pretty sure I'm getting somewhere. We have the option of getting back on the bus, but I'd rather stand in the sun than sit on the bus.
That was awesome. Maybe even worth the wait. There were three gauchos with their dogs driving hundreds of sheep across the border. Wonder if they have to stamp each one of their passports.
That's going to the bloopers. It's too corny to go in the actual vlog.
It is 1:30, we're being waved to the border.
2:30, we're being waved to the border. One more update. It is almost 3 o'. Clock. We are stamped through to Chile. Now we just have to wait for the rest of the bus to get back and then we'll be on our way.
We think. No one has told us that.
That. No guarantees.
Wishful thinking.
Everything's been in Spanish. We've been doing a lot of assuming.
My maps say that Puerto Natales, which is the town we're going to, is still a 46 minute drive. So I'm thinking we get to our Airbnb by four at the very earliest, which means we haven't eaten since 7, which means I probably won't get food till at least five. Other time we check in.
Put our stuff down.
Fine. Food.
I'm being extra hangry right now. Why didn't we bring snacks?
So I feel like this has happened to us several times recently. We've been in transit, we haven't gotten to eat. And then Kara's gotten hangry and somebody commented that I should just travel with Snickers. Eat a Snickers, please.
Why?
Every time you get hungry, you turn into a diva. Just eat it so we can all coexist. You turn into a diva. And I think, I think that's a good idea. I'm just gonna buy like a wholesale bulk pack of Snickers and carry them in my bag for times like this from now on.
We made it to Puerto Natales. It was supposed to take five hours and it took eight. But we are here now. We have to figure out how to get to our place. I believe it's going to require taking a short taxi.
Well, there were no taxis available at the bus station, so we're just going to walk to our place. I think it's like 20 minutes away. But it seems to be all downhill towards the water, and it feels great outside.
We passed the taxi and then we got in it.
We just got settled into our new guest house, and our host invited us to dinner tonight.
So we're going to a place called Base Camp, which is supposed to have really good pizza. And it's also, like, the place that, like, the hikers come before they go out on the trek to get, like, briefed on what to expect. Also, when you watch this video, it will not be Valentine's Day anymore. But this is our Valentine's Day. So very romantic.
We need to get get chocolate.
After, I'll buy you some form of chocolate for Valentine's Day. Thanks.
Got their guard dog out. Yeah.
He'S cute.
We are splitting this huge, beautiful pizza. Skipping lunch has really caught up with me. I cannot wait to eat this whole thing. It was a great way to celebrate Valentine's Day.
Bit by some puff.
Okay.
What do you do? Board.
