A travel-vlog style YouTube video (June 5, 2018) by Nate Buchanan documenting a day trip in Bali with Kara Buchanan. They drive north into the mountains, visit an iconic Balinese temple with a local guide, encounter monkeys, pick up a second guide (Koman) at a waterfall trailhead, hike through rice fields, sample fresh coconuts, coffee and local snacks at a resident's house, and explore natural features including a 25‑meter natural water slide before reaching the waterfalls. The tone is informal and experiential, focused on scenery, local interactions, and food.

Once again, we are up with the sun because we want to make the most of our last day here in Bali. Somehow. We have been here for over 10 days, and we have yet to see a waterfall. So we're going to change that today.
We're actually heading north today about three hours because that's where the best waterfalls are. And we actually hired a driver because that would be a very scooter. And we're leaving now.
So we've just driven about two hours north up into the mountains. It's so much cooler here. It feels fantastic. Before we go to the waterfalls, we are stopping at a temple called.
This temple that we've come to is like the iconic Bali temples that you see in, like, all of the pictures.
So I'm just walking around with our guides through. Hi, this is Saria. There's definitely something about discovering things on your own that's really special. But it's so nice traveling with the local and just being able to know what you're surrounded with. Like, if we were just here on our own, I would just be looking at all these temples. But he's taught me so much already, so thank you.
Nice.
We'll Photoshop out the wet pants.
I'm a little wet. If the ground wasn't so smushy, I think I could have been dry. But as soon as I put my foot on the ground, I sank, and I'm just wet now. The guys at the temple came out and told me to come back.
It was a challenge.
Up next, waterfalls. We just pulled over to a highly populated monkey area. I think I'm gonna stay in the.
Hi.
Banana. Yummy.
It's okay. You stay where you are. Okay. Don't come any closer.
There's a massive monkey coming. This scares me.
They seem pretty chill. As long as you don't have food. This man has food. Listening. They seem very happy.
Yes. Yes.
Sam.
Staying in the safe zone.
Come on, get out and see the monkeys.
I can see him from here.
So we just got dropped off at the trailhead of the waterfall. We picked up a new guide. This is Koman. He's gonna be showing us around.
His name is actually a lot longer, but we can only pronounce Coman. So terrifying.
Friendly.
I just can't even. Don't touch it. Oh, my God.
Oh, yeah, it's about.
Hey, why would you do that? Oh, my gosh. I almost fell. Like I scratched myself.
Qu.
So I thought we were signing up just to, like, drive out and see a waterfall, but this has turned into one of the Most beautiful hikes that I've ever been on.
We're just walking through these rice fields, locals, houses. We're surrounded by mountains, palm trees.
I mean, it does not get any prettier than this.
And we haven't seen anybody else.
That's incredible.
We just stopped at this beautiful little break area for a snack, and this nice man had us some coconuts ready. But when he chopped them open, they weren't very good. So he just climbed this palm tree to get us some more.
No big deal. Lowering him down so high.
He's lowering them down with the ropes.
Bring me the coconut.
I got it.
Pretty Freddy Fresh.
This is going to be the freshest coconut I've ever had.
And then this one is perfectly.
Whoa.
That's insane.
A little nervous. You have to switch them around.
Hold on. This is really hard. All right, I'm gonna point both of the straws towards you, towards your face.
Will you just tell me?
I'm gonna guide your head to the straw. This is the one I want you to try first.
What do you think that is? Or you want to try them both first?
That one tastes very fresh. Like, I would guess that was right off the tree. It just doesn't have a ton of flavor. It doesn't have that fermenty flavor that old ones have sometimes.
So I'm guessing that's the new one for now.
Okay, next one.
That one has a little more taste, but I don't know. It's like, do the old ones have more taste or the new ones? Can I try this one again?
I'm gonna go with new. Old.
Open your eyes.
Oh, no. I was wrong. So the new ones have a little more flavor in there. We're getting coffee. We just thought we were coming here for a quick coconut. This isn't even lunch. And we have fresh coconuts. Fried bananas that are so hot they're burning my fingers. Fresh palm sugar to dip them in mangosteens, which I've never had, but they look really cute. Little bunches of baby bananas that are super sweet. Coffee and tea. What is this place? We're just at this guy's house. We were passing these coffee plants on the way in, and now we're drinking Balinese coffee. It's great. It's so hot. I'll try this in a minute.
Wow. How do you eat it? Yes, how do you eat it? Just it. I'm trying the mangosteen.
Oh.
It's, like, sweet and buttery, and it, like, almost melts in your mouth. I'm going to eat the rest of fried bananas, though.
This is definitely one of the scarier bridges I've crossed.
So this is a 25 meter natural water slide. Ah, it's so cold.
We're gonna ruin our camera.
I love how he's just sitting with his legs like that.
Hey, hey.
Dang, I feel like this means something.
Like good luck or something. Oh.
Oh, my gosh.
It's bigger than my hand. For real.
Oh, gosh. This plant. I thought the plant was a. Was a spider.
Can you tell how big it is compared to.
No, you can't. It's not fair.
Do you know how we get out of this place?
Oh, thanks, SpongeBob.
