BOATING DOWN THE VISTULA! Krakow, Poland

A short conversational vlog transcript of Nate and Kara Buchanan (with friend Charlie) exploring Krakow, Poland. They visit a coffee roastery and nearby café called Karma, sample local street food and quiche, rent a small boat on the river for sightseeing (views of the castle), and trade lighthearted anecdotes (including a dragon/castle origin story) while interacting playfully.

Josh.
You guys can be really cute.
I'm getting out of here. We've made quite the scene.
Bishnet.
Bishnet.
Will you give me our plans for, like, the next couple hours in your best American accent?
I'm gonna have to work on it.
Bye for a second.
This is my friend Charlie. He's from Tassie.
My name's Chad, Kentucky. And y' all here with my American friends and my Australian friend Kara. And we're all gonna go skating round to.
The castle.
And we're gonna get some fries and some fried chicken after a Pushnet.
Ice cream.
Let's go.
Good job, mate.
Name?
All my thoughts were blood. I believe it was.
Boy, you free. My mind was a great change.
As a true.
At the bottom.
See the dragon bones.
Where we're being told that those are dragon bones hanging outside of the church.
We just came to this coffee shop called Karma. There's a roasting place right next to our Airbnb called Karma. We thought it was a coffee shop for a long time, but they're only open on the weekends. And Nate finally went in and talked to the guy. They just roast the coffee there. But here is their actual coffee shop. So we're gonna go to that.
We skated all the way across town for this?
Yeah, we did.
Oh, that looks fantastic.
Really nice coffee, actually. Really nice coffee.
That is so strong.
Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
I don't know.
It's, like, too strong. I need to let it sit for a minute or add some water to it. Oh, my gosh, it smells so cheesy. I got a massive piece of quiche. Nate goes home, and so did Charlie, but he already ate this. That's Australian.
Y' all know that makes me say I'm terrible. All right, Nate, tell me what you're having here.
This is the traditional Polish cabbage sauce salad. I think this is a red pepper with some cabbage, and then there's lots of fig inside of it, which gives it a very odd, sweet flavor.
And how would you rate this meal?
Healthy. Healthy. On a scale of one to healthy. Healthy.
Love this place.
The coffee was fantastic. It's a bummer that the Roastery that's right next to our place is not open because it would have been there, like, every morning. Seriously, some of the best coffee I've ever had.
Boy, you freed my life.
We probably explained it was like $15 to rent a boat for an hour, so I figured, why not? We are full speed, though, cruising.
Oh, my gosh.
It's running on the Water. That is the weirdest thing I've ever seen.
Oh, they are not.
All right.
You gotta get in.
All right. Where? Right here.
That was dangerous.
All about itself. What's the plan in Kentucky? We go looking for crocs. Is that what we're doing? Yeah. There are no crocs. We're going exploring through the rivers.
What do you reckon?
Do you reckon we can go any further?
Yeah.
She said.
Yep. Yeah.
How do we go back?
It's loving it. We'll just have to push off and turn around. We can always put the engine up.
Yeah, I just figured we'd go until we hit something.
I haven't hit anything. Oh, looks very shallow.
Oh, very shallow.
Just on the edges.
I can see the bottom.
Yeah, it's pretty shallow. Oh, this is perfect, though. If you drop me off.
Oh, gosh.
Yeah, a little bit.
Quality driving. Perfect. Good job. Are you seeing how fast you can go? Reverse.
Drive it like you rented it?
There's the castle. Charlie knows the story behind the castle, so he's gonna fill us in.
There's two different theories. The first one is that it was Duke Crack, and that's why it's called Cracow or Crackhoff, and he's buried under a big mound on the side of the city. The second one my tour guide told me was that over there, there's like a cave underneath the castle and dragons used to live there, and the king killed the dragon, and the dragon had a sister or something like that. And then when the dragon died, then the crows came to come and eat the carcass and they made a noise, and that's why it's called Cracker.
I love that story.
I want to go with the second one.
That's.
Yeah, I know.
I think so too.
Hey, no problem. Thank you. All right. Was fun. It was. I went into it with the wrong expectations. The boat was incredibly slow. But if you go into it with, like, leisurely sightseeing, good views of the castle from the river.
Now we're super hungry, so we're gonna go check on Jill. She's been sick today.
That's why she hasn't made an appearance in the vlog.
She's been resting, so we're gonna bring her something, and then we're gonna go eat.
This is the ice cream place where we've been getting ice cream. That is the line. That is insane. Get it? Go back to crazy odds that you had like a 3 second.
Just go rot them.
Cara, why are you riding like that?
Yay.
Yay.
Yay.
That's what happens when you see.
How many can I get?
1. 3. 1. The equivalent of my sandwich.
You'd be a really good girl.
You can have.
I'm pretty excited.
$2. That's fantastic.
If that. And it's beautiful looking.
I think I do care. How's it?
Beautiful.
Ketchup's an interesting touch. The chicken and the mushroom with the cheese is particularly good. Traditional Krakow dish.
Nice.
Similar to this in terms of Polish bear. They've been catching salmon since back in the 14th century.
So we've seen like a billion sushi restaurants in Poland. I have no idea why. I tried to Google it. They're on every single corner. So all week I've been wanting some, and I finally got one from this little street stand.
Eating it like a hot dog. Are you sad you're missing out on a sandwich? No. Wow.
That is literally bigger than your head.
Oh, my God.
Some kind of garlic sauce on top. It looks like mayo, but, yeah. I got sausage with sausage with pickles and some kind of garlic sauce on top.
It's beautiful.
I'm gonna go get one of the sausages from over here.
Do it.
That's really good. It tastes incredibly unhealthy.
Beautiful. It's so huge.
Did that sound American?
Not really.
You sounded like Chad from Kentucky.
My name's Chad from Kentucky, and we're here in Krakow.
Perfect. Go.
Carrie. You made it through.
How y' all enjoying that quiche there?
I love quiche.
Back in Australia. We are good.
We've got the Buzzing Bee Festival back in Krakow.
Turns out that people from Tennessee don't like flies.
I found him.
We're basically in Venice.
You mean to be like.
I think it's called.
Charlie's having a Good time.
Wrong way.
Why are we going slower?
Make it go faster.
Why are we going back and forth?
You ready?
No. There's a wall right there. We pass the wall.
He's not touching him.
Today's vlog is just gonna be like b roll and blooper. Yeah.
