Sam.
Today is day two in Latvia. We have packed up all of our stuff this morning and we are currently walking to the bus station, which is going to take us to the airport, where we're picking up a rental car and we're driving to a national park. I think it's a national park to do something that I never thought I would do in my life, but I'm, like, so sad to be leaving Ria. Feel like normally I do pretty well on the planning front of, like, how long we're going to need in a specific destination. But I underestimated R.
We made it back to the airport. Now we just have to find the rental cars.
That's our car for the next three days. It's cute. Yes.
I bet.
We'Re running a tad bit behind, so we're stopping at the grocery store to grab a couple snacks for lunch. This grocery store has a make your own sushi bar. So we've just filled up some boxes so I can look at it. It's only a euro 30. For 100.
In the U.S. this would have been $15. This is, like, pretty. Like. Any sushi that has a fish on top is expensive. Came with forks.
Not bad for a grocery store. I think all of my rolls have cream cheese in them.
Mm.
All right.
That was amazing.
Back on the road to.
Seagoda.
Seagodah, according to how Google said it. Pronunciation.com do you want our twigs now or later?
Not sure if you could tell what that building was as we were driving in, but that is a bobsled track.
That's a bobsleep.
We have driven all the way out here to have our first bobsledding experience.
I'm super nervous.
You may be wondering, it's the middle of summer. How could you bobsled?
All right.
The key elements for a successful sled team are a steady driver and three strong runners to push off down the ice. Ice.
Ice. Apparently they have designed a summer bobsled with wheels that you can take down the track.
You mean winters in igloos and Eskimos and penguins and ice? Possibly.
See you Some fun facts about this place. Seguleda Bobsleigh and loose track was opened in 1986 and is one of the few tracks in the world that is accessible to both professional athletes and visitors. It's 1,200 meters, features 16 curves and allows for a maximum speed of 125 miles per. No. Kilometers per hour.
I've heard it's slower in the summer. I really wish we were here in the winter. But we're going to make do with what we have.
So we found the place where we're waiting in line to get on the bobsled. There's about a 45 minute wait. But we're sitting in these bean bags in the sunshine. Looks super nice. We're getting to watch everybody go. It's making me a little less nervous. I'm still pretty nervous.
Sam.
We're next.
Feeling good.
Here we go.
I'm so nervous. Here we go.
1, 2, 3, 4. Here we go.
Come on.
It's.
Holy moly. That was amazing.
The truck's pulling us back up the hill. I was too scared to turn around because I thought my neck was gonna break off. The curves were so fast.
That was insane.
You're a great driver.
That was so nuts. I'm pretty sure I captured, like, none of it. Because it was impossible to always hold myself in with one hand and video with the other. That was crazy. Definitely worth the drive out here. Way faster than I expected it to feel.
Good.
Yeah.
That was awesome.
I can't believe we just did that. So I really had no idea what to expect getting into that car. Everybody who had gone and was getting out before us, like, didn't say anything. Like they would get out of the car and just kind of take their helmet off and leave. So I didn't know if it was super lame or if it was so terrifying that people were just stunned. And we get in the car.
I think people were shocked at the.
Speed he get in.
And the guy was like, hold on super tight with your one hand. Because we both had a camera. And then he said, keep your back and neck strong. And that was all he said.
And they just sit us down.
He closed the gate.
We were like 20 seconds into the ride. And I think I broke my finger between the camera and the cage that was on the outside.
My camera's going.
Yeah. It's just gonna be a jumbled mess.
So at first I'm like, okay, all right. Like, it was going pretty smooth. And then you hit that first curve and it's like. And there's just no controlling your body. This is the craziest thing ever.
Yeah, that was awesome. He said we were probably going like 80 kilometers an hour on the summer bob. But if you come back as a tourist, you can go 105 kilometers an hour. If you go on the frozen one.
Where you going?
I'm gonna take a hot bath. I'm getting cold just thinking about all this ice. No, man. You're gonna be part of My bobsled team.
That was incredible.
Our driver was so cool. She was, like, so chill. She never said anything. She's been driving for 20 years. She was a professional.
I watched her go down, like, 20 times before we did. Who knows how many times she's been down the street.
Drive crazy.
Also had a slight catastrophe as I was getting into the bobsled.
Did your pants rip?
This is my one and only pair of pants. I have.
No.
Literally, I have no more pants.
Okay.
So these pants I'm wearing are Hurley Nike Dry Fit, and they are my favorite pants that I've ever had. I've had. This is my fourth pair. Yeah. I've had four pairs since we started traveling, and they have all ripped in this exact same place, so there's a huge flaw. But, like, I wear them almost every single day, so I understand when they break. But I've been through four pairs now. I'll probably end up just ordering another one like I have. But it is slightly frustrating. I don't think that can be. So that's pretty big. Trip to the mall is in order.
Yay.
So if you know anything about this area, you probably know that the bobsled is not the only thing to do around here. There's like, some hiking and some caves and some castles. But Nate's pants ripping kind of determined what we were going to do with our night because it's already five o', clock, so we need to do something now.
We're going to one of Kara's favorite places, H and M. So we're gonna head back towards where we're staying tonight. Stop at H and M on the way. And where we're staying tonight is actually an hour and a half away from where we are now on the other side of Riga in a beach town called Yermala. It starts with a J, but I'm pretty sure it's silent because when I told our Airbnb lady this morning where we were going, she laughed at me. I said, jermala, I'm pretty sure it's Yermala. So we. We wanted to do more while we were here today, but we've just kind of run out of time. And I can't walk around with this huge hole in my pants.
Don't know what happened to me. I got not one, but two pairs of pants. I was fully ready to admit to the vlog how bad of a shopper I was because I was, like, positive I was going in there and not coming out with a pair of pants because I'm so bad at making decisions when it comes to buying clothes, because I hate all new clothes. I love these pants. Now we're heading to Airbnb, and we.
Bought everything at the Remy again.
The Remy is, like, one of the best supermarkets ever. And we may be having sushi for dinner.
You can put here.
Okay.
Okay. We just ticked into our Airbnb. Our hosts are super adorable. They have redone this really old apartment with all these other really old parts of houses in the neighborhood, so it's super cute. And today's vlog is over.
Almost lost it all.
I would have felt so sad for you because I wouldn't have been sharing.
The back of this wasabi bag. It says excess consumption of this food may have a laxative effect.
I've never seen that warning on any food before.
I felt like my entire neck would snap off if I turned around.
Why were you trying to turn around?
Because I wanted to talk to you. Were you not telling me to turn around and look at the camera?
No, I was thinking telling you to turn your GoPro around. Did you? No.
Whoa.
It's a winner. One.
The winner, Bob.
