Buenos Aires to Montevideo, Uruguay | WE MISSED OUR FERRY :(

This is a first-person travel vlog transcript by Nate and Kara Buchanan documenting their day traveling from Buenos Aires to Montevideo. The couple nearly miss their scheduled slow ferry (reported as missed by two minutes), upgrade to a faster (but more expensive) ferry option, clear immigration formalities, and continue by bus to Montevideo. They arrive, check into an Airbnb (host: Santiago), walk to the nearby beach, and eat local "civitos" (Uruguay-style burgers) at a restaurant (Civiteria Marco). The clip emphasizes travel mishaps, budgeting trade-offs (about $100 extra for the faster ferry), and local impressions (beach proximity, food).

Hope we got everything. Bye. Apartment.
So this morning we're going from Buenos Aires to montevideo in Uruguay. We're supposed to be taking a ferry and a bus, which we're running late for, and now we are locked inside our apartment building because we left the keys in the room, but we need the keys to unlock the main door that leads out to the street. This morning's off to a stressful start.
Thank you.
We're free.
A nice lady let us out of the building, and now we're trying to find a taxi.
Hola. Necesito y terminal de buca bus in puerto madero. Okay, Buzz, see.
We have about 15 more minutes in the taxi. The ferry leaves in 30 minutes. And I hadn't thought about this until, like, just a few minutes ago, but I think we have to go through customs probably in order to get on the ferry since we're going to another country.
We did not leave ourselves enough time this morning.
The terminal is inside, and it leaves in 10 minutes. I can see our fer. Just hope it doesn't leave it.
You're way too positive about this.
Gracia.
Gracias. Muchas gracias.
Seriously, don't stop running.
Oh, shoot.
Go, go, go, go.
Ah, I'm so scared.
Oh, we can go. We can go. Ready?
No, no. But if you want change for the next boat is fast boat 1230 and pay a different price.
We were told that we missed the boat by two minutes, which is extremely frustrating. I think at this point, our only option is there's a fast boat that goes directly from Buenos Aires to Montevideo. We were taking the slow boat that was going to go to colonial, and then we were going to take a bus. I think taking the fast boat is going to end up costing us about an extra hundred dollars, which is sad considering the fact that we only missed it by two minutes.
This is the first form of transportation that we have missed in a year of travel.
So I guess when you consider that we've done pretty good. But God, we were so close. There was just so much traffic on the way here. Google maps said it was going to take 20 minutes. With Traff, it probably took 30 to 40.
Now we're gonna go figure out how to get a ticket for the fast ferry. Gracias. We have upgraded to the rapid ferry. All things considered, our first missed transportation has worked out pretty well. So we got a coke, and now we wait two hours until the rapid ferry leaves.
Knocked out some editing while we were waiting, and now we're about to go check in for Our fer.
Turns out we didn't do quite as good as we thought this morning. We are on an express ferry, but that express ferry is going to Colonial and not Montevideo. So we take an express ferry to Colonial and then we still have to get on the bus and go to Montedeo, but we still get there 4. So it works out. It's not quite as convenient as I thought it was gonna be.
We just got stamped out of Argentina and into Uruguay, even though we're still in Argentina. So I guess when we get there, we just walk right into the.
This is so nice.
And we're off.
It's a mad dash to the door of the ferry. Go, go, go.
We made it to Uruguay, our 45th country. Now we have to find our luggage and get a mess.
There's my bag. Yours is closer. Mine's far away.
Go get it.
Big bus so far. I'm pretty impressed.
We just got to Montevideo. Now we're waiting on our Uber. Besides the mishap this morning where we missed our first ferry, today has gone extremely smoothly and all the transportation has exceeded my expectations.
The ferry was super nice. It was like being on a massive airplane where you didn't have to wear a seatbelt.
And the bus was nice. It was extremely efficient. Like, we literally got off the ferry, walked onto the bus, and it left five minutes later.
And now we're going to Airbnb.
Our Airbnb host, Santiago, should be awaiting our arrival. That's what she just texted me. I'm Kara. Yes, I'm Santiago.
Nate. Nice to meet you.
We just got all settled into our Airbnb. This house is so cool and our host is adorable. So now we're eating some Oreos to keep me from getting hangry on our walk to dinner.
So we have about two hours till the sun sets. We've read about these things called civitosis, which I think is like Uruguay's version of a hamburger, which sounds really good right now. We looked up a restaurant that's like 20, 25 minutes away. And we're gonna take a long way there so we can go on a walk on the beach and then we're gonna get down.
So the beach is like a five minute walk from our place, which just feels so crazy because you're in the middle of this huge, nice city and then you have this huge beach. Looks like everyone here also drinks matcha tea, like in Argentina. I've already seen tons of the little cups that they have with their thermoses on the beach with them.
Sa.
Oh my gosh.
Hot.
This little ball of potato is the best form of potato I think I've ever put in my mouth. I thought we were getting a hamburger. And we have a feast. Okay, it looks like we have egg, ham, bacon, french fries, round potatoes, cheese.
Maybe there's some beef under there.
Lettuce, tomatoes.
Who knows what else is in here. This is so crazy. So we picked kind of a chain restaurant to eat at tonight, which normally we try to find a hole in the wall kind of place, but we figured locals eat in chains. I eat a chains and I think we made a good decision.
I found another meat.
That's good. I love it.
I'll dig in. Here's what was underneath all of these layers.
Delicious.
We did our best. I think we're calling it quits here. This is way too much food.
Quick tip. If you ever go to Civiteria Marco, the civitos for one will be plenty.
We're gonna call it a night and attempt to walk this off on our 30 minute walk home.
I'm sure it'll be delicious.
Sorry.
