This is day 2,543 of living on the road. And today we're doing New Zealand's number one day hike, Tongariro Alpine Crossing. It's a 12 mile hike and supposed to take eight hours. But my adorable baby nephew is joining us on this adventure, so it should be interesting. The first couple miles were great. It kind of felt like we were walking on the moon. Nice and flat, a few waterfalls, casual views of this gigantic active volcano, and even some potties. See those tiny people up there? That's about to be us. About six miles in, we finally made it to the top with these insane views. And all the reminders about potential danger made it all even more more exciting. The initial descent was not easy, but we made it down to this stunning lake to eat soggy sandwiches for lunch. Check out where we just came from. We're only halfway through this hike, but Hank is thriving and ready to finish strong. The rest of the trail felt never ending. Eight hours and 14 miles later, we made it to our car and drove straight to beers and burgers to celebrate. See you tomorrow.
