We have spent the last few days living under the same roof as three other amazing couples who have all traveled together full time for multiple years, lived in their vehicles and work as business partners together full time on their YouTube channel. Combined, we have over 7 million subscribers and have been to the majority of countries in the world. So while we're having breakfast, we've asked everyone to help us with this video and we have a lot of amazing questions. So let's get started.
I can't wait to make this video. It's going to be so fun.
This video was sponsored by Amazon Shopping.
Alright, first question of the Q and A. What's for breakfast?
Overnight oats with cinnamon and chia and fresh fruit and granola. Delicious.
What do y' all do to like get ready to film?
I'm always ready.
We like slap each other. Not hard though.
Hell yeah. Yeah.
Bit harder.
Come on.
Come on.
Bit harder.
I can't.
Question number one. Will you ever have kids?
We get this one a lot. I'm gonna go with we still don't know. I feel like lately my answer is probably. This is a very difficult question.
Yeah.
When I'm with these guys, I'm leaning towards yes. Cause it kind of sounds fun. If everybody here is doing it, why not?
Yeah. We've got one coming in like five months. So you get started.
Congratulations. Together.
I just go in circles. Cause then it comes back to the reality of kids are kids.
I think we're closer now to having kids than we have been over the last three years.
When you guys planning a conception party? You and Beck? Last night?
Yeah.
October. We'll get together. We'll make babies.
This is what I mean. If we're all doing it at the same time, it's just more of a party.
But not at the same time.
Explain to them what your dream has been.
It was. This is gonna sound weird. My good friends that I had in high school, we all had this dream of getting and having babies on the same night. Not like in the same location necessarily, but like a hotel where the rooms are separate. But then everybody just conceives babies around the same time so that you can all go through life in the same face.
Do you meet in the lobby and high five afterwards?
Okay. Babies.
Yeah.
I mean, we can't even look after each other's.
Big question number two. Why can't Nate dance?
I have spent 33 years of my life determined not to dance because I was embarrassed and self conscious about it. So I have a lot of catching up to do.
It's hard not to be a dancer with this crew. I think we've had an average of five dance parties a day.
That is my least favorite thing about hanging out with everybody in this room.
I feel like everyone can dance, though. Nate, you can dance.
I will say that. No, no, no, no, no, no. This.
Nate, Nate, Nate. Date Nate.
This is my worst nightmare.
Yeah.
In all seriousness, this is, like, the most encourag people I've ever been around.
It's true. Encourage you.
No pressure on. How did you all meet?
We met a. Did we just meet last year?
Yeah.
Wow. The pandemic brought us together. We started doing, like, some FaceTime calls with Aon and Beck, and then we met in person for the first time last year at their cabin. And we had, like, one day of crossover with Craig and Amy. We threw him in the lake.
I guess we met y' all before we met when we did the van swap. And we spent, like, two days together. So somehow we've spent less than two weeks total with all the people in this room, but they all feel like best friends. Who is the messiest?
Hmm.
Of everyone here? Louie?
This.
Oh, probably Louie.
Honestly, this house is filthy.
See, there's a difference between cleanliness and messiness. I think I'm getting better at cleanliness, but, like, look over there, and you'll see that's just all of my stuff.
Can I just go put the camera in everybody's room and we'll let the people watching be the.
Oh, no, here we go.
No.
She's the super.
Okay, so. Oh, wow. It's so clean in here. All right. Not so bad.
We're just doing laundry. So we're getting laundry pile together.
Sure. You are pretty.
All right, let's see. Eamon and Beck's room. Ooh, these guys might be the winners.
It's like, condensed mess. It's like, here's all of our mess piled on top of each other. Probably the worst bathroom, though.
So this is Kara and I's room. I mean, it's not the cleanest, but. All right. Greg and Amy's. What did y'. All. Is this for real? No way.
Do you make your bed? I did make the bed.
Wait, was it when we went downstairs? No, like, actually this morning.
First time Amy's ever made.
The queenest goes to Craig and Amy.
That's just not true, though.
And the messiest is sitting right beside them on the couch.
Yeah. I didn't know we were playing this game.
What about when you're in the vine?
100%. Nate. What is the hardest thing about being.
Travel YouTubers, keeping up with Karen Nate.
I truly feel like the hardest thing for me is the balance of like I'm living my dream life, but also letting myself have negative feelings. And I actually feel like this group has helped me know that, like, it's okay to have bad days.
I think the hardest part is like not the need to over explain. But a lot of people don't get it. They see us traveling the world, staying at nice places like this, and they just assume like we're on vacation at all times. And so you can't really explain that to someone. But that's why it's nice when we're hanging out with a bunch of people who do the same thing. And we don't need to like over explain that we work hard. I don't know, it's kind of hard to once again explain it to you guys, but that's what I would say the worst side is. But it sought us to the best job ever.
Who in the relationship works harder?
I feel like before we had a full time editor, I would have said me.
Really?
Are you kidding me?
No. I think we both have our roles and we enjoy what we work on. So it feels like the other person works harder, but apparently not.
I wasn't done yet. I feel like now that we have a full time editor, you work way harder and more. It's convenient that we have complete opposite personalities. So like, what Nate does, he's really good at and what I do, I'm really good at. And we don't ever step on each.
Other'S toes when it comes to the pure video work. I work harder, but I feel like Raya works equally as hard in the other areas of like juggling all the other stuff we're doing in our life. So I never feel like she's not working hard enough.
Okay, I think everyone can guess. Ready? Say at the same time. One, two, three, back.
Eamon works hard on certain things, like building, you know, and he built us a beautiful home, a beautiful van, and when you're into something, you work really hard. But to get him to sit down, Forget writing an email.
It's not an excuse, but if she wanted me to draft an email, it would legitimately take four hours and she could do it in 15 seconds. I don't know how to spell or speak or write.
That's not fun. I don't want to fall out with you.
But the answer's me.
To be fair, the last six months I would say you definitely have worked harder.
It's really difficult because with what we do and, you know, we create videos every single week, with that comes burnout a lot. And l. Luckily, we're never burnt out together, so Craig will take it on if I'm feeling the stress and vice versa.
One thing you can't travel without, and one thing that would make a great gift for travelers this Christmas.
This is mine. It is a portable pour over, must have. And look how tiny it is.
Mine is quite expensive and difficult to find, but would be my partner Beck, because I left to go travel without her last week and it sucks.
Mine would be a portable air conditioner that comes in three different levels. I get really anxious when I fly, and I need to be kept cool. Climbing mountains. Pop it on. Go to the supermarket. Pop it on.
Looks like Louis has a similar suggestion.
Very similar. Little fan stands up by itself and you can leave this all night.
This question says, who can chug a glass of water the fastest?
3, 2, 1.
Wow.
Wow.
Supposed to get it in your mouth.
I miss Nate's expense reports. We just kind of stopped, and we never explained why.
So for context, we used to publish income and expense reports every quarter for four years. It would show how much money we made and how much money we saved. The goal when we started was to show us turning our YouTube channel into a business that could support our travel lifestyle. And then when we started making more money beyond that, I think in a way, those had served their purpose. And they also seemed to make people unhappy.
What is one thing people ask you about traveling that you think is stupid? I don't think this is stupid, but I think my least favorite thing is when people ask me what my favorite country is, it becomes this whole thing. Because some places are my favorite because I like the beach. But when I'm at the beach too long, then I'm ready to go to the mountains. And when I'm in the mountains too long, then I want to go to a city. And I have a favorite place for all of those things. Some places I have the best food, but I would never want to live there. You know what I mean? And so I've spent hours of my life trying to come up with just a good, quick answer.
Besides, just be more specific when you ask the question and she won't be as angry. What is the group dynamic when we all get together? Is there somebody that becomes the leader? Is there somebody that becomes the mom? Papa boo.
Papa Boo.
Boo.
Now it seems like I set that question up.
It's funny because often I'm the responsible one. But when we're together, it feels like Nate's got that handled. So I can hand that over and just have fun and relax.
Back.
You come to me as the mum.
Yeah, it is kind of.
Nate and Beck.
You be Shaq.
D.J.
D.J.
Louie, D.J. mama. And Papa. Raya is just like our spiritual leader.
Yes, Spiritual leader.
Conversation starter.
Yes. Care Bear.
Oh, man. Julia, Energy.
Yeah, exactly.
Energy.
Amy, a laugh.
Yeah.
Amy brings the wig and the wigs. Wig provider.
And Craig, again, a good laugh.
I reckon you are also bringing some tunes, bro.
Tunes.
I love it. Good conversation. That's what I was gonna say.
I didn't Craig about anything.
Yeah, we're the best.
Does anyone have an unspoken rule that they live by when traveling? So two come to mind? For me, if you're eating street food, never eat at a street food stand that doesn't have any other customers.
We do have a restaurant.
What is happening? Right.
Also, if someone is trying to convince you to come eat at their restaurant, assume it's not very good.
You should take what you want to take. I don't take that much stuff when I go away. But, like, if you, like, wear what you want to wear. We took platforms on a cycling.
You say we.
I took platforms on a cycling trip the other day. But you should never wait to wear something you want to wear. Like, if it makes you feel good, like, go and take it.
Also, I've got a good one. If you go into a massage parlor, make sure you do research before you go so that you don't end up in a brothel.
How do we feel about packing?
Keith?
Don't love them.
I have one only for my tech stuff.
Yes. I have at least 10.
Yeah, same tech stuff.
Yes.
No.
Don't know what that is.
What?
Are you kidding?
It's a no for me.
What happens when you open your bag? Your stuff is everywhere.
So Louis currently travels with a small suitcase, which is all electronics, mainly sand phones and a backpack. All electronics, super heavy lenses. And then all of his clothes fit into this.
So this is like, technically, like your purse. Like, this is your personal item.
I want to be a packing cube person. Like, I used to use them, but then I'd find, like, I'd take something out and I wouldn't put the shirt back in the shirt cube. And then the shirt cube becomes a pant and shirt cube.
And it's like, then you're looking for.
All these cubes when you just got one big cube that you could look through.
I honestly cannot believe this room sided with me in our packing Video. This was very divisive and it seemed like everyone was on Kara's side.
I think Kara might be the only person here who has a check in bag. So if you're traveling with a huge amount of stuff, you might need packing cubes. But if you're carry on only, you're good.
Three of you had cancer. How are you dealing with it? I put on more sunscreen than I used to and I don't have hair right here.
This is my first.
Clearly not doing this.
Yeah, this is my first post treatment trip. So it's very exciting. But yeah, we're dealing with it. It'll be a part of my life forever, but yeah, so inspiring. Dealing with it with community and support, to be honest.
Yeah.
And embracing my new hair.
Amazing.
Yes. So I celebrated my 14 years cancer free just a few days ago.
But yeah, I'm like so open about it. I had Hodgkin's lymphoma, which was a type of blood cancer that started in my neck. So if anyone's got any questions or if you're dealing with it yourself, then love and strength from all of us.
What is everyone's thoughts on ever retiring from YouTube? I think it's inevitable for me.
I think I'll vlog forever.
I've always assumed that YouTube in general would fizzle out. And so, like, I don't ever think long term about being a YouTuber, but I don't really think long term about many things in my life. I'm very much an in the moment today, right now kind of person.
Can you scoot back as far as you can? Perfect, Perfect. Kara's shoulder just looked a bit jacked because it is. Okay, what causes the biggest disagreements in travel and the biggest disagreements in working together?
I don't like being bossed around. And like we established, Papa Booch usually takes control. And I feel like that's the root of, of all of our arguments, whether it's about travel or working or anything in life. And it's something that we're honestly still working on because I take things really personally and I'm learning to just kind of like, let go. Yes, we have our hard days, but then it's always matched with endless good days. And so it's hard to focus on the negatives, but I think it's important to talk about.
That kind of leads into something that might be an interesting question or a discussion. When I meet people and they're like.
Oh, what are Kara and Nate like in real life?
Well, the first time I met you Guys, you were a lot smaller than I thought you were.
I was like, someone put these guys in the tumble dryer for reference.
I'm 5 10, 160 pounds.
I'm 5, 5, 1 30.
Like, I don't feel like I'm everyone listening to me.
So.
No, I think you have, like, big energy when you're filming, and that's why you all love their videos because they're, like, so gripping and their storytelling is amazing. But my favorite moments with them have just been, like, four hours deep chats. And you just. You can't ever really see that side of someone in like a 40, 20 minute video. So I think it's like, the depth that they go to is what surprised.
Me because of you.
Yeah.
Brought out so much of our, like, deep side.
Somehow you're even more joyful in person. Like, you're so, so much fun to be around. Like, genuinely some of our best friends, as you know. Yeah, I love.
I love you too.
What I was most shocked about with Nate is that I think you come.
Across like the most confident person in your videos.
No, I don't mean this in a negative way, but I would have never guessed that you wouldn't be in the.
Middle of a dance party.
I think you deserve to have all the confidence that you have in your videos in real life at all times.
And I think it's something you do to yourself where you'll, like, call yourself out right at the beginning in front of everyone, like, hey, I'm for this. And you're kind of backing yourself into that corner when you're good at everything.
Yeah, you're the best at everything.
I hope that doesn't upset you.
No, no, no. Do you need to, like, lower expectations and then exceed them?
I feel like you're funnier in real life.
When did you first feel comfortable with your YouTube income?
3 years in last week.
I think for us, at the end of year two, or like, very beginning of year three, we hit 100,000 subscribers. We had set the goal of going to 100 countries, and I think up until that point, it felt like it was gonna be the money that held us back. And when we hit 100,000 subscribers and we're just like, looking at the ad revenue from YouTube, I realized, like, as long as we stick to the $75 a day budget, there's nothing, like, it's not gonna be money anymore that holds us back from going to other countries.
How often are arguments cut out of your laws?
So I do think when Kara was editing our videos it was more unhealthy for our relationships because if I did something to make her angry in the moment when I did something to make her angry while we were filming, then she would re watch it. Like, get angry. Yeah, exactly. So I was like, we got in trouble twice.
Yeah, it was a dark time for me, honestly.
What do you spend your time doing that doesn't get shown in the videos? For me, it's a lot of time sitting behind the computer or on phone calls doing business stuff.
A huge passion that I have that never makes the videos is I read and listen to every vegan nutritionalist on the planet.
And then she shares the information with all of us.
Did you know you can only eat cheese seeds if they're soaked or flax seeds if they're ground? Or that sleep is the most important thing that you can do for yourself?
Watching tons of stuff like Louie's watched every TV show ever made. Basically, I'm DJing.
I like DJing.
I do a lot of reading. Yoga. I train a lot as well. We don't film that much.
You would be able to tell that much.
Yeah, I like to tinker, so I don't always film it, but I like to just do, like, little tiny projects. And that's some of my favorite times is just being out in the workshop, just building a stand to hold my drill. Little things like that that are really quick little tasks, but really satisfying at the end of the day.
What is your equivalent to your sleeping on the couch tonight when you're traveling?
We fix 99% of our problems with food. Honestly, we're just like, you're hungry.
I'm hungry. Okay.
Sandwich.
We're.
I have no idea what we were saying when the camera died, but it's probably a good thing that it did because I think we would have sat there and talked forever. We are gonna make some sandwiches and enjoy our last day with our friends.
Subscribe to that.
Awesome.
Oh, yeah. Also, we'll link all of these channels below.
One of the questions was something along the lines of, are you guys actually friends or do you just hang out together to promote everyone's channel? I hope. Hope after this video, it's clear that we are all actually friends.
We love each other so much.
It was, like, kind of gross at some points. I know.
