Croatian Waterfalls + ABANDONED FORTRESS!

A first-person travel vlog by Nate Buchanan (with Kara and Charlie) documenting a short road trip outside a Croatian city. Nate picks up a rental car (paid $86 for four days; an unexpected €75 cross-border fee was discovered), then the group visits Krka National Park where they pay an entrance fee, picnic, swim in cold waterfalls, and explore the larger park. Later they drive on unmarked/dirt roads to find and climb into an abandoned fortress with crumbling structures and dramatic views—an impromptu adventurous highlight.

It's a little after 8am I'm heading to the airport alone this morning to pick up a rental car that we're gonna have for the next four days. I'm gonna swing back by the apartment and pick up Charlie and Kara. Running late. That's why I'm out of breath, because I've been running.
Hello? Migos at the airport made it. Just.
That's the company I rent it from. Oh, they're open.
This is our noble steed for the next four days.
I have this love hate relationship with rental cars. I love the freedom that they give you to, like, get outside of the city and explore. But I hate that there's always hidden fees. Like, I paid $86 to rent this car for four days, and then I went up to the counter and, like, hidden deep within the terms and conditions was a €75 fee for crossing the border from Croatia to Bosnia. So the car rental price doubled in like two seconds.
That was a good one.
We just got to Krka National Park. It was a beautiful drive on the way here, but we just realized we have to pay a pretty hefty entrance fee. I don't think Nate is too excited, but hopefully it's worth it. What do you think about it, Chad?
I'm pretty excited. It looks like there's a lot of water and we're gonna go swimming.
So I probably didn't do as much planning as I should have when coming out to the falls. I figured we'd just, like, drive the car up and then hike and see some waterfalls. But turns out you need to buy an entrance ticket and then jump on a bus and then ride the fall. I was leaving us.
The bus was limped in.
Probably should have hopped on that one.
Sorry, Charlie. Gosh dang.
All. Love all you love.
All you love.
Picnic.
We just finished our picnic lunch at Kirka national park, and now we're going for a swimming in the waterfall.
Ah, this water is absolutely freezing.
Josh. I vastly underestimated the size of this national park. There's a lot more to it than just this one water.
Hello.
How's it going, mates?
Really good.
Looks going there.
Fish everywhere.
I thought you weren't going under. You're in the current. Come back. You gotta go this way.
Gonna try to make love shine make it easy when there's no one El.
It's a little after four. We're leaving the waterfalls. We are somewhere in this area of the park right now, and we're gonna try to drive somewhere down these roads to an old fortress that sits here. I think Google maps will locate its fortress. I have a better feeling about finding it now.
All right, Charlie, what's the sitch?
So we're trying to get to the fortress. So then we went and talked to the lady information. She said, no way. No, no, no. And I said, yes, yes, yes, we're gonna do it. But it's not signed. There's a walk. There's no car park to pull over at. You just have to pull on the side of the road, apparently, and walk down. And so we're going to this big town, and then there's a. She said, it's not a town. It's a village. I said, it's town.
No, no.
So then we were going to pull up and go for a walk, and we're going to find it. I got really good vibes about it.
I just heard Charlie take the map and say, we'll take the challenge. Well, if we don't find it, it's a pretty drive.
We just turned on to an unnamed unmarked gravel road.
Maybe somebody's driveway. Yet to be determined.
They don't trust me at all.
Oh, back there.
Oh, and she knows English.
And then walk.
Thank you very much. Thank you.
What a cutie.
To the first left. Is that where you're staying?
Do we think I can turn around right back here? Yeah, I got a little inside. I didn't scare the girl.
He's like.
We'Re now on not even a dirt road or not even a gravel road anymore. It's just a dirt road.
They have no idea where we're.
Ah.
We'Re here. What percent chance do you think we are at the fortress?
60 Charlie's using Google Maps to see that we're in, like, the general vicinity. I think there's a massive cliff that drops off right over there. So now it just comes to whether or not we can hike down. We've driven as close as possible. We've taken the roads as far as they go. Feeling good about it.
Oh, my God, dude, we found it.
No way.
Oh, it's amazing.
Incredible. Oh, let's run down.
The fortress is right there.
So now we just have to run down this ridge, and we'll be there.
Just.
This is super cool.
You just broke that. There he is.
Who knew?
Not me. This looks very safe. This wood is so rotten.
And if it breaks, it's just like death.
I'm just wondering about this bit because it kind of perches off. I want to go inside, though.
Yeah. Oh, we're doing it.
I think we form A chain line. We're sticking to the beams. I'll go in front.
I don't think I can do it, y'.
All. Yeah, I need to be to the rocks right here. As long as you keep a handhold on this rock, even if the wood breaks, you still don't go down the mountain. No, not if you're holding tight.
I don't think I can.
Yeah, you can.
There's lots of bees. That'd be the way to go down. Start getting attacked by bees and have to run.
Definitely stay to the right. I can see straight through the left side over there.
Oh, Jesus. It's all from one chain.
Don't go over the edge.
I'm slowly making my way. You're right. This part is, like, super sketch. Are you coming? Are you really not?
Literally a cliff.
Is she not gonna come?
I don't think she's gonna come.
She's lighter than us.
Yeah, I think you're good, Kara.
Actually, I think it's not as sketchy as you thought.
Once you're in it, you know what I think you could do? I think you could come halfway, and I think you could climb up this wall right here. If it's fear that's holding you back, I don't want that to be the thing.
Definitely gonna be hard for you.
Don't step on those. Step on the underneath beams.
Just look where the nails are nailed into.
Have both hands on the rocks. So if you were to fall.
See, I don't want to.
I don't want to make you fall. You're not gonna fall. You just gotta get to right here, and then you can climb up the rocks.
There's bees everywhere.
You're like, four steps away.
I don't want to climb up the rocks either.
The rocks are solid.
Are you serious?
Yeah.
This thing is falling.
For it.
Hey, are you glad I made you do it? I guess so.
I don't know how I'm gonna get down from that.
This place is crazy. There are literally trees growing inside of the fortress. All the rocks are crumbling. This is a real adventure. This might be the best view in the entire national park.
That is a cliff. Nobody's getting in.
This fortress that was made for moments like this.
We explored all of the castle. My adventureness is running dry. I'm starting to get, like, mom worried right now that something's gonna fall on our head.
Charlie is precariously climbing up the mountain behind you.
Yeah, now we're climbing up the side of the mountain. It's just, like, flat rock. Very easily slip. But it was a great time.
She's really been a big weenie. I'm sorry. I'm just kidding. Our car is somewhere in that direction.
This is what happens when you've been traveling for a long time.
You relax your standards completely.
We've just had a beautiful picnic lunch. And now it's time for a picnic.
We're heading to Mild.
We got a way to say.
Ball in Australia.
He had no clothes. Recording.
There aren't people stupid enough.
To clap.
