Vlog by Nate and Kara Buchanan (post-Everest Base Camp) documenting recovery time in Kathmandu focused on food and channel decisions. They enable monetization on their YouTube channel (choosing only short pre-roll ads), walk to local eateries, and sample several restaurants. The video functions partly as a practical food guide for visitors to Kathmandu, recommending specific breakfast, lunch, and dinner spots and noting low-cost treats (Baskin Robbins ~ $2).

We have a little confession to make. We haven't vlogged the last two days that we've been here in Kathmandu.
We got back to Kathmandu two days ago and since then we've been here at our hotel and basically all we've done is lay here in the grass and recovered from our trek.
And it's been amazing. We felt really deprived of real coffee and good food on our two weeks in the Everest region. So this week has been our week.
So we're hanging out at our favorite coffee shop in Kathmandu. We just finished trekking Everest base camp a few days ago. We've been kind of taking it easy catching up on the vlog, doing a few other things. There's one thing that we've been putting off for a long time and it's turning ads on our YouTube video. I don't really know why we haven't turned them on because it's a way that we can make money and help us stay on the road longer.
But we just haven't. And for some reason today feels like the day and I felt like we should put it in the morning. There's this monetization tab in YouTube and I think all I have to do is click this enable button and ads will be on our video. Just felt like we should be extremely transparent about this. So here we go. Drum rol.
Ah.
Oh, that was anti climactic. Apparently there's a few other things that need to be set up. Anyway, we're turning ads on our videos for now. I don't know. If you have a big problem with it, comment below. At some point we'll try to defend ourselves on why it makes sense to do ads. But yeah, just thought we should put it in the vlog. So the ads that go like over the videos are really annoying to me. So I'm not gonna add those. Just the ones that are like pre roll that you only have to watch five seconds of. Those are the only ads we're currently turn.
I think this is actually going to start him.
Boom.
And nothing's happening.
You at it. Hope you enjoyed the behind the scenes view of what it takes to monetize a YouTube account. And hopefully the ads aren't too annoying. It is after 12pm We've sat here at the coffee shop all morning, but we did get some important things done. First we turned on ads on our YouTube channel is a big deal and we'll go into a lot more detail on that in the future. Also, I'm putting the final touches on my first online course on how to travel for cheaper. There will also be more details on that. And now we're taking this really long walk to our favorite lunch spot.
Right there across the street.
I'm buying food.
Put in Facebook. Okay. It'll be on YouTube. YouTube and Facebook. You want spices? Just a little bit. Okay. Excuse me. Carrots? Spicy Chicken wrap. Spicy. Just a little. You want a spicy, my friend? Spicy? Yes, please.
Okay. How will it look for you?
What it is?
Completely embrace the video at this point, we went from no video to find me on Facebook. Get this shot. Here we go.
Thank you very much.
Basketball plays in Kathmandu.
Notice this was yesterday's best falafel at Kathmandu. He also yelled at me for videoing it first, and then he really got into it, so I'm pretty sure he was joking. Falafel, French fries, tons of veggies. Looks fantast.
Hey.
Is that the best ever?
Best palafo kebab I've ever had. All right.
Oh, you're gonna be sharing with me.
I did.
Yes.
Yeah.
The plan was to actually do something today and go see Dunbar Square. It's like Kathmandu's main square Square, and then go to the bazaar. Unfortunately, it's, like, pretty much pouring right now, so looking like it's gonna be another lazy day. Oh, well, it ended up raining all afternoon, so we just hung out here at the hotel. And now we're going to meet our.
Friend.
From New Zealand who we met.
While trekking, and we're going to some burger restaurant that's supposed to be good because we were vegans for a week while we were on the trail.
I don't even really like burgers.
Meat is going to be so good. Yeah.
Thank you. Yeah. Good.
Oh, nice.
Fried egg.
A real burger, and onion rings to go on.
The lighting in this place was terrible. I couldn't stand the flickering, so I just quit videoing. That was the burger that I dreamed about the entire time I was on the trek. If you need a good burger when you get back to Kathmandu, the Friends restaurant is the place to go. We are back after dinner, and since going to the square got canceled today, we're realizing that we don't really have a vlog, except for just us eating today. So we thought we'd just go all out and make this an entire food vlog. So at least if you're watching this and you're ever in Kathmandu, you'll know where to go eat. Kara, favorite breakfast spots.
We've been to Pumpernickel every morning. What breakfast spot? Go to Pumpernickel get the omelette sandwich and a pot of coffee. You won't regret it. And of course, on it. What about lunch?
Oh, by far my favorite lunch is the Indian restaurant called Western Tandoori and Naan. The best nine I've ever had.
So good. And the kebab place we went today is also the second time we've been there, so it's really good too. What is it called?
I don't know. It's the signs in the video. Yeah, two fantastic and cheap lunch spots. Last but not least, dinner.
The fire and ice Italian place. The lady is Italian who owns it. It's real pizza.
So good it's hard to come by in Kathmandu.
And Friends. We've been there twice where if you.
Go to friends, just order the burgers. The first time we went there, we thought it was terrible. The burgers are really good. Oh, one more place. Lunch or dinner or 2K. Oh, yeah, they have really good salads.
They are sister restaurants with the Friends.
Restaurant kind of got like this hippie sit on the floor vibe. It's cool, but it's really good.
And there's the Baskin Robbins where you can get ice cream after every room.
It's like $2, so pretty cheap for Baskin Robbins. So there you have it. If you ever find yourself in Kathmandu wondering what to eat. Hopefully this vlog was helpful. If you're like a regular vlog watcher and are used to like, a lot better content than this. We're really sorry.
We've been eating so well. We just wanted to share the love. Everything's really great though. And we've been hiking for two weeks. We're just still really hungry.
Our perception is completely skewed. These restaurants are probably terrible.
Don't believe this would pass OSHA standards back in the US.
Just hanging out on a ladder doing a little painting.
You're a weird color.
Ghost.
