A first-person YouTube vlog by Nate and Kara Buchanan documenting their first day at Munich's Oktoberfest. They arrived early in Munich, attempted to access the tent where the mayor taps the first keg, navigated table-reservation rules without prior bookings, sampled traditional food (Weißwurst), and were hampered by persistent rain that limited outdoor shots; they left the festival and returned to their hotel. The video includes specific on-site times and practical observations about crowding, press access, and tent reservations.

Jesus.
Today is the first day of Oktoberfest. We got into Munich early yesterday morning at like 5:30. We took the day off to sleep. Also buy some costumes. Kara's in full Drindel attire.
We heard you're supposed to reserve a spot at a table and a tent at Oktoberfest. We didn't do any of that. We weren't really planning on coming to this festival until like less than a month ago when we realized that we are going to be in Germany the exact same time as Oktoberfest.
How can you not go to one of the world's most famous festivals? Exactly.
So we're here and we're just gonna.
Hope for the best. We're flying completely blind. Here we go.
We're here.
We made it in.
It is currently 10am we have two things on the agenda. First, we got some kind of press pass. So we're gonna go pick that up and see what that's all about. And then we're gonna go try to get a seat inside of the T tent where the mayor taps the first keg at 12pm apparently nobody is allowed to drink at Oktoberfest until the mayor taps the first keg and yells some word in German.
Not the best weather for our first day at Oktoberfest. A little chilly and rainy, but they did let me bring in the waterproof bag. And we have gear.
So we hear all of the tables get really crowded when it's raining like this. So we've gotten here two hours early. No clue if that'll be enough, but I guess we're about to find out.
Not sure if this entitles us to anything, but we got the badge.
At least we won't get in trouble for our camera.
Now this is the tent where the mayor taps the first keg at 12pm we're gonna see if we've gotten here early enough to go inside. Kind of doubting it. Things are looking pretty crowdy.
I believe that is the official first KE of Oktoberfest.
Got here in time to enter the tent. But we did not get here in time to get one of the unreserved tables. And it's packed in here, but I'm just happy I can wear my dress inside. And we're out of the rain.
So we're gonna hang out until the mayor tats the cave. We have a pretty good spot for that. And then. I don't know.
They've officially closed the doors to the shot and Hamil tent so that we got in when we did it.
Is 10:45, which means there's still an hour and 15 minutes.
We found a table that's not reserved until 2 o'. Clock. So we ordered some traditional brunch. It's called Monster Wishwurst. It's minced veal with pork bacon and it's like a white sausage looking thing.
It's what the barbarians eat between breakfast and lunch.
So we're told. Yeah.
Maybe they're just telling us that.
This is awesome.
Our munchner wishworse has arrived.
Looks great.
It did come with some sauce. How's it smell?
Oh, it's like honey mustard smell.
Kiara, what is the proper way to eat a wishner washinger Wife.
I plan on taking it out of this bowl of hot water first.
Pretty good.
The mustard's really spicy. At least I have names.
Everybody's standing on the table.
So we're not really sure what's going on. Sounds like a band. You want to go down there and see what's going on? I'll save our spot.
We're sitting somewhere up there.
There's some kind of parade going on outside that they're showing on the screen. I think maybe each brewery has its own festival. To do some research, you'll have to watch the keg being tapped through all these other people's screens.
Sam.
And an Oktoberfest.
Very heavy.
I don't even like beer. A guy just stood on a table and drank this whole liter in about 10 seconds. 15 maybe. Brunch is over. They just brought us this huge menu.
It's all in German. I don't know what any of it is.
Sa.
It's not good. We got kicked out of our table at 2pm apparently it was reserved in. I'm scared if we go to any other tent then we won't be able to get a seat. We're gonna get a pretzel here. Kill some more.
Everything is determined.
It's substitute currently place people don't Alabama and everyone is loving it. But there's a good idea or Guys, I'm waiting. You can always stay in one place for so long. Please hang out. Enjoy.
Watching this guy right here literally slammed the door in people's face.
Sorry guys. Not getting in. We managed to squeeze our way to another 10 minutes. Way crowded. We flashed the press pass. I'm pretty sure they weren't supposed to let us in. But they did.
We found them.
They had half chickens which look fantastic. So good we got jealous. So we left. Kind of.
We're gonna go get some food on our own.
Unfortunately, it is poured the entire day. There is a ton more to Oktoberfest than just the two tents that we went in. But we're hoping to come back at least one more day and get a lot more shots of, like, all of this outdoor stuff that's going on when it's not, like, completely boring.
We have officially left Oktoberfest. It is pouring. We're gonna catch the subway back to our hotel and probably call it a night. Maybe there's some food in between there.
I can't believe people are on that. There's three people on that ride.
They have had too much to drink.
