FLYING HOME FOR CHRISTMAS | Cancun to Nashville on American Airlines

A travel vlog by Nate and Kara Buchanan documenting their trip from Cancun to Nashville for Christmas and the subsequent complications returning to Cancun. The vlog opens at the airport in Cancun (lounge, boarding), recounts the couple's prior visit to Cancun, shows their first-time arrival into Nashville on a direct international flight, and covers five days of family time. On their return, the Dallas→Cancun leg is canceled, forcing them to retrieve checked bags and rebook: they secure a flight the next morning (5:30 AM) that routes via Charlotte, experience a short layover (Charlotte local time announced as 7:41), use a Minute Suite lounge, and ultimately return to Cancun to take a bus to their Airbnb. The video mixes travel logistics, family moments (Chick-fil-A, karaoke, limbo, gift-opening), and practical details about flight disruption and rebooking.

That I'm in the.
And we are back at the airport.
And if you're thinking, didn't us get to the airport in your last video?
Yes, yes, we did. And that was three weeks ago. Our sole purpose for coming to Mexico was to just sit on our computers, catch up on all of our 2018 work, and edit all of the 2018 vlogs.
But that didn't happen because this video was filmed in 2018 and you're watching it in 2019.
We were so close.
Now, I know a lot of you are thinking, but you missed so much while you were in Mexico, and trust me, we know. But we have actually been here once before, before we started this YouTube channel.
It's actually a really fun story. So real quick. For our one year anniversary, Nate surprised me, brought me to the airport, handed me my passport, and I scanned it. It said Cancun. We were so. So we came to Cancun and stayed at our very first Airbnb. Then we rented this tiny yellow car and drove to the middle of Mexico, saw lots of ancient Mayan ruins and ate fish tacos with our toes in the sand. It was so fun.
Needless to say, Mexico is a very special place to us and we will definitely be back one day.
Now, let's go to the lounge.
This lounge has guacamole.
Today is an extra special day because today we are going home for the first time in almost a year for Christmas.
We've been counting down the hours until this flight leaves and it's finally time because started boarding five minutes ago. We're not going to miss this one, though. We want to get home for Christmas.
I can't believe we're going home.
The crazy thing about this flight is that it's going to be our first time ever flying directly into Nashville. There's only a few international flights that fly directly to Nashville, and we just happen to be on one of them.
Just three hours and we're home. No layovers. I'm so excited.
It feels so weird. We've flown in and out of Nashville like 100 times. We've never been through customs at the airport.
We'll see. Also, when we were boarding the flight, everyone around us had these, like, very familiar country accents and it just felt so strange. Like, normally I'd be like, where are you from? Because we never hear our accent anywhere. But he's going to Nashville, so it makes sense.
Couple of minutes. We sure. Thank you for coming back to Nashville and happy holidays.
Welcome aboard. If you haven't already passed your seatbelt Insert the metal fitting into the bubble and pull the shaft hook tight across your hands. So open your seat belt. American Airlines and alumni partners thank you for flying with us today. We hope to see you again soon.
We're home. We're home.
Oh, it's so quiet. Welcome, y'.
All.
I can't believe we're home. But we only have five days to soak in every single minute with friends and family. Doing things like having breakfast with the.
Family.
Eating at Chick Fil A, spending time with our niece, eating with our best friends, friends. Singing karaoke with my cousin, taking family photos.
Do the limbo.
Do the limbo.
Pop.
Counterweight.
Oh, my gosh.
Twice in a row. Positively opening Christmas gifts.
Hanging out with his mom.
Love you.
Saying lots of sad goodbyes.
I love you, Mommy.
And after an incredible five days, we are back at the airport where there is a large thunderstorm happening.
The last five days with friends and family were the absolute best. And I can't believe it's already over.
Tonight we are flying to Cancun because it was actually cheaper to book a round trip flight to Cancun and then to our next destination than it was just to fly directly from Nashville.
However, we're not sure we're actually going.
To make it to Cancun tonight.
You know how we said we were pretty sure we weren't going to make it to Cancun tonight? Is that what we said?
You know how we said there was a good chance we weren't going to make it to Cancun tonight? We've been sitting in the airport for about 30 minutes now and we just learned that we're definitely not going to Cancun tonight.
So we were supposed to be flying from here to Dallas and then from Dallas to Cancun. And the Dallas to Cancun leg has been canceled, but we've already checked our bags that are going on the plane. So we need to go figure out what to do. This is a first. Our flight has never been canceled before, so we have no clue what happens now.
Learning experience.
How do we get to see our family?
Yeah, more time at home. This is the problem. Yes. Appreciate it. Thanks so much for that.
So we do have a flight. Let me see, it's tomorrow though.
If you have anything later than five in the morning, change flight.
Go drop it on.
It's not exactly ideal. We have to be back at the airport at 3:30 tomorrow morning. A little bit more time with the family, though.
Yeah.
So now we're just waiting for our bags to get pulled off the plane and then we have another flight booked at 5:30 tomorrow morning, which should get us into Count Camp cloud, Cancun, around 12:50. Now we just have to figure out what to do about the Airbnb that we already have. We're learning lots of new things tonight.
All right, we got our bags and we are heading home. But we will be back in a few hours.
And we're back. We board our flight to Charlotte and one hour.
I was trying so hard to be serious. I think I'm a little delirious. Caffeine for my coffee last night and then the caffeine for my coffee this morning.
Just a little more tired than we were before. Not me.
Please refrain from. Put your coats up and go until your neighbor has put their little board bag as well.
Here we go.
In a water evacuation, you can use your seat cushion for flotation. Pull up to remove the cushion and take it to the closest usable exit. Welcome to Charlotte, North Carolina, where the local time is 7:41. Please remain fasting until the seat belt sound has been turned off.
I do not exactly have fond memories of this airport.
I'm pretty sure I'm just as tired right now as I was the night we slept on the port.
We have about an hour till our next flight and we're going to go check out the only lounge that we have access to, to which I don't really think is a lounge.
Well, this is it. This is a minute suite.
Yep, that's it.
Yep.
You get a couch and a desk and you get one free hour with your priority pass.
So we'll be here until we board our flight for Cancun.
Happy Airlines and.
Our One World War. Thank you for flying with us today.
We hope to see you again soon.
Many thanks and good afternoon.
We made it back to Mexico and it's hot.
We are taking the bus to our Airbnb. But we are going to end this video finally right here. And the next video is actually going to be another travel day to a new country that we're very excited about, but also a little.
You know, how we said sorry.
Hate this game.
There's that Christmas spirit good for your channel name.
You can pretty much walk under that one.
Christy.
Go, go, go.
Oh.
Where you been?
I was videoing.
There.
That's at the limbo.
Alex is blowing snot bubbles. Santa titties.
Are you used to my stuff?
Now lean back. Now lean back and we'll go backwards. No, back. Give me your hands.
No, you're gonna let go.
No, I'm not. I'm not gonna let go.
I'm not gonna.
Lean back. Lean back.
Lean on your heel. Put the weight on your heels.
On my heels?
Yeah.
