Hanoi Old Quarter | CRAZY Cheap North Face!

Nate Buchanan and Kara explore Hanoi's Old Quarter at night in a travel vlog. They search for food, sample street-side eateries, attempt a walking tour, and shop in local markets — buying a leather phone case and a puffy 'North Face' style jacket sold cheaply (negotiated to about 450,000 VND, ~US$20.11). Back at their suite they hold a postcard giveaway for followers (winner: YouTube name 'Flossysky').

Look at all of these scooters. I'm going to say this in every vlog this week. I think there's even more today. It must be Monday, and everybody's working and park their scooters here. Kara's getting hangry, so we're going to go try to find some lunch. Not sure what we're going to get. We're just going to walk until something looks good. Never a good plan when Kara's hangry doesn't look super popular. Just walk by, like, don't act like you're gonna eat here. That looks delicious.
This is the longest we've ever looked for a place that we agree on, and it's the hungriest I've been. So we're gonna go back to the first place.
Kara, how positive are you that the restaurant that we're trying to go to is not on this side of the road?
I am 100% positive it was on that side of.
Okay.
Just. We're just gonna leave the camera on.
Are we about to be there so.
Everybody can see that there were no edits?
Is this it?
That's weird. What are those little tables on the road?
Is this.
I think this is a different one.
No, that's it.
Excuse me.
Yep. I don't know what any of them are.
Pineapples in there.
Pineapples. I don't see any pineapples.
Are those not pineapples?
I think they're French fries.
Hey, Phil.
No, we only searched for this place for, like, an hour, so if it's not good, there have been two random bowls with some green leaves laid down.
Oh, yeah, it's good.
Delicious.
I think they're not French fries.
They look like French fries.
Yeah. Good. Yeah. Just glad she likes it because I picked it and she would have hated me if it wasn't good. Have you tried yours yet? No. I'm committed to making this video. Good. Made it. Just in the nick of time. They cleaned up every table but ours while we were sitting there. We somehow done that at times too.
Usually we go out and do our activities during the day, and I do the vlog at night, but today we're switching it up. So I'm gonna go do the vlog now so that later we can go see the old quarter at night.
Can't wait.
When we originally booked this hotel, we only booked three nights. But then we got upgraded to a suite with a living room and we didn't want to leave. Plus, Hanoi is quickly becoming one of my favorite cities, so we booked an additional Two nights here. We didn't know if we were going to get to keep our suite upgrade. And I just talked to the people downstairs.
Two more nights in the suite.
We are on our way to explore the old quarter by night, which I'm super excited about because I loved walking around yesterday. Which we did for, like, thought we did five hours. It's a good excuse to go back. We decided we're gonna start with a sandwich from our favorite sandwich shop. And then as the night goes on, we'll snack on some more interesting foods.
I still can't get used to how many motorbikes there are here.
That was a crosswalk. That car just drove up on the sidewalk.
Dangerous up in here.
That's the sidew. He just came off the sidewalk. He's driving on the sidewalk.
What is happening right here?
I really like the lights on that building.
Just loosening up for a night out. Crazy Monday night. It's a phenomenon.
Maybe it's a thing here.
I'm gonna say it's definitely a thing here.
Oh, it is definitely open.
Yes.
Still the best sandwich everywhere. Agreed. Across free tea again. Now we found some, like, random do it yourself walking tour online. So try it out.
Why not not?
We'll wander into something interesting. Yeah. So this is the random walking tour. I think we're, like, here. Ish. So we'll start at number.
Number nine. Was more food. You ready to eat it again?
I guess so.
That was a lot of food. And we just ate.
So Dong something market, which main gay is located next to Dong something street? Perfect. Nighttime gastronomy with a number of street food stalls. Oh, look at all this gastronomy.
The walking map's not going quite as well as I thought it was going to.
Yeah, maybe this is like a weekend walking map.
This may be abandoned shortly.
There's a little bit of life going on on this side. There's a market.
Okay.
Our walking tour has turned into find Nate a new phone case. Because.
This.
And because of this.
Omg. Nate found a leather one. We've made a.
Celebratory music.
Yay. It's better than it did before. And it's like, grippy. I've dropped my phone, like, twice in the last two days, so hopefully this will help. I like her.
Ooh, poor her.
She has two flowers.
Yeah, I think I like this.
We have big time stepped up our postcard game.
Everest can handle this.
No, I think Everest would demolish polish that jacket. Really?
How much does this one? 490.
That is like less than $25.
It started at 21 and she offered us a 10 discount. That puffy North Face jacket was less than $20.
We have to get one.
I wish. We needed one.
Tonight just turned into a big, fun shopping night. I'm getting a coat.
I get a new phone case, and.
You get a coat.
There was some heated negotiation. It worked because Cara couldn't really decide if she really wanted it or not. We paid 450,000. Dong.
Ah. $20.11. I thought I had it under 20. I would tell you where we were. Go to Made in Vietnam. But watch this.
Made in Vietnam. Made in Vietnam. That one also says Made in Vietn. That's when we bought it at. It's also called Made in Vietnam. So you can go to Made in Vietnam. All right, we're going home before we spend all of our money. Look at this.
Oh, that's beautiful.
I know it's kind of weird that we're in the bathroom right now, but for some reason, this is the only room in this whole entire suite that has an overhead light.
So a ton of people followed us on Instagram, which is super fun. So thank you. We put your names in our ice bucket, and now we're gonna choose one for the postcard.
You forgot the postcard.
This is the postcard we're giving away since it's been so long. You probably forgot. It's hand drawn from Laos from that really cute lady.
You made them? Yeah. Oh, they're great. Cup tie delight.
She was the sweetest person ever. So whoever gets this postcard, you're a lucky dog.
Alright, we think we've come up with a fun way to do this. Put this down. The plan we figured out. If I blow into this bucket, the names shoot out and Kara's gonna try.
To catch one and you get the postcard.
I'm gonna say, nobody's gonna win the postcard the first, like, three times. Hey. Okay, ready? Yeah.
This tub is like. There's a bathtub right here that I can't.
One, two.
I got one.
First try.
This is the YouTube name Flossysky. I don't know your real name, but you get a postcard to write messages.
On Instagram with your address.
Congratulations.
Alright, one more thing. We spent way too much time in the bathroom already.
We got.
Another postcard. Boom.
3D postcard with the Vietnamese lady carrying flowers.
How cool is that?
I think maybe this is the last postcard giveaway we'll ever do. Because how does it get better than this? So, like, our new Facebook page that I'm gonna make tonight.
We'll link it below. Yeah. Really? I have no clue what we're gonna do with the Facebook page, but, like, we're trying to partner with these brands and get free travel stuff and. And they like it when you have a Facebook page. So if you like it, it'll help us out. And maybe want a postcard?
Comment on this video and tell us that you liked our Facebook page.
Do that. It makes these things way easier. She doesn't look at school from here. There you go.
Yay.
Alright, three minute bathroom scene.
That was dangerous. I love this so much. Hold your hand up and just go.
We're gonna die.
We live. It works.
We did it.
We both made it.
Annoying.
Carrot goes.
All right, time to go.
