How NOT to Travel! (South Korea to Vietnam)

A vlog-style YouTube video by Nate and Kara Buchanan documenting a chaotic trip from Seoul, South Korea to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The video shows missed/uncertain flight confirmations, last-minute visa printing, weigh-ins for carry-on luggage, flight delays due to weather, and arrival logistics culminating in settling into a budget-friendly two-bedroom Airbnb.

Okay, we made it through security. Made it through customs. Our flight started boarding five minutes ago, but according to our ticket, we still have 20 minutes until the door is closed. So we're gonna try to head to a lounge for our visas and the other form that we need to fill out before we get to Vietnam.
Probably have a cup of coffee, take my shoes off. Relax.
This whole video is what not to do when you're going to the airport.
Good morning. In our last video, we went to the airport having no idea where we were, and we ended up getting on the longest possible business class standby flight, which brought us to Seoul, South Korea.
Oh, my gosh. That is crazy.
Lots of naked dudes around me.
This is super cute. Are we in an arcade?
We just spent the last two hours naked and separated.
So even though it didn't really matter where we ended up, we are so happy that it was sold, because this is one of our favorite cities in the world, and they have some of the best food in the world. Do you want to take a bite of it?
He also used a blowtorch to finish it off at the end, which was fantastic. Since we were flying standby, we didn't know exactly where we would end up. So we didn't get to book our accommodations until we actually landed. And we ended up in this loft that cost a hundred dollars a night. It's an okay loft. There's plenty of beds. Actually three to be exact.
So plenty of space to sleep and a nice chandelier. However, it's not exactly ergonomically conducive to working on our computers all day. So as I was sitting here very uncomfortably behind my computer, researching where we were going to stay at our next destination, I realized that we could be staying in a two bedroom apartment for half the price. Look how nice this place is. There's a pool. Ooh. Oh, look how comfortable. Look at the big, beautiful table for a workspace. Nice kitchen. Not one, but two bedrooms. So today we are going to the airport and heading to Vietnam a week early.
Okay.
I don't know if we'll make it on the flight.
Stand on the.
So we had a little problem.
We are on the train on the way to the airport, and we saw a sign for the budget airport, and we're like, oh, we're on a budget airline. I wonder if we're supposed to go to the budget airport instead of the main airport. So then we search Nate's email for a confirmation, and we. We can't find our flight confirmation, so we might not have flights to Vietnam today. We're also running very, very late. We also haven't printed our visas for Vietnam yet. And even if we knew what airport we were going to, we don't know what terminal to go to.

Sometimes you just get too comfortable, you know, in a neat car. This equipment in particular, according to Wikipedia PDF, Vietjet flies into Yicheon International Airport.
Which is where we're going now.
So I guess we'll just show up, we'll hand them our passports, and we'll hope they get a stick. I drastically underestimated how long we needed to get to this airport. We have about an hour and 20 minutes until our flight boards, which should be fine, except you're supposed to be at the check in counter an hour before to check your bag. So that's really all I'm worried about at this point.
Let's see it. We are, we're a mess. Such a mess right now. We came sprinting up to the check in counter as they were making the final announcement that this was the last chance to check your bags in. And then she's like, can I see your ticket? We're like, oh, we don't have that. And then she was like, can I see your visa for Vietnam? And we're like, oh, that's not printed. And then for the first time ever, they weighed our carry on back.
Not like we had no idea how much they weighed.
They've never weighed our backpacks before. Max is 7 kilos. They each weighed at least 10 kilos. It's just all electronics. It's just a big heavy brick on our back.
And so we had to open up our suitcases and put like everything in there.
Stuff that I never part with, which really makes me uncomfortable. But she let us carry them on even though they're still a little too heavy.
We got our ticket. Our gate closes in 30 minutes. But we've been asked to wait here while they check our bags that we checked in, which has also never happened.
And we still haven't printed our visas. That needs to happen before we leave the country.
Okay, we made it through security, made it through customs. Our flight started boarding five minutes ago, but according to our ticket, we still have 20 minutes until the doors close. So we're going to try to head to a lounge, print our visas and the other form that we need to fill out before we get to Vietnam.
Oh, we missed it. There it goes. Oh no. Is it stopping? It's stopping.
There's a train. And I have this really bad feeling that we're going to have to choose between getting on the flight or for printing RVs. Both of which are pretty important. I think.
I think I should go to the gate. Hold plane. You should go to print RVs. Thank you.
Ready?
We just have 15 minutes until our flight leaves, and I really need to print a baby. Okay, you go to the gate. Okay.
I need my boarding pass.
It doesn't close till 11:20. Don't let them leave me. Good luck. Thank you.
Technically, our gate doesn't close for 12 more minutes. I might go ahead and go just in case. While Nate is printing our thesis. This turned into quite the morning.
Okay, I'm at the gate. Lane's still here. There's a long line. Not last. Everything's fine. That was a close one. First launch we went to wouldn't let us in because we weren't flying with somebody. I don't remember who. And then the second when she didn't speak very good English and we were like, print her. And she was like. And then they had one. I am in a full body sweat right now. Okay, Nate, let's go.
Final call. Come on, nate.
Three and a half minutes to spare. I actually didn't print the full thing. I just printed the only part that had our name on it because it was so slow.
Oh, who knew it was gonna be such a stressful morning? Not me. It's like, if that printer in that lounge wouldn't have worked, if it would have been out of paper, we would have been gone without a visa. I mean, I think probably we could have gotten it. Like, I don't know, we could have. We probably would have made somebody mad at the airport. And then eventually, they probably would have helped us print the sheet of paper instead of kicking us out of the country. But who knows? We need your confusion to repent. The Daily FC Number three and Chili cup has been created. Thank you.
Sam.
So it's been a pretty bumpy flight, and now we've just learned that we can't land because of the weather. So we're just flying around up in there.
Should be fine. Up until this year, I don't think I've ever been scared of flying. Like, when we get on a plane and we hit turbulence, I never think about it, like, what are the chances that you're actually going to crash? But I feel like there's been a lot of stuff happen this year. Or I've just seen it. I think about the bumps a lot more. That's all I'm saying.
You've always thought about them.
I don't like turbulence.
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the City International Airport, Ho Chi Minh City.
The local town now is 10 minutes to 4pm and outside.
All right, five hours later, we have landed in rainy Vietnam. And now to see if I printed out the right piece of papers in the lounge. Also, this might be a good time to note that I ordered these as a one day rush visa when we decided to come here from like a random website just in case anything interesting happens.
All right, that was relatively painless. About an hour later, we have our 3 month multiple entry visa, which you'll see why we need later. And now we're out here in the chaos that is the Ho Chi Minh City airport, and we are trying to find our Uber driver to take us to our Airbnb.
This is the right car.
Wow, this is fancy. Dark. $7 to go from the airport. That is like 35 minutes. The city. It's pretty good. It's good to be back in Vietnam.
Redecorating. I hope it doesn't mind.
That was easy.
I forgot how many motorbikes there were in Vietnam.
It's amazing.
Look at this. It. It took us an hour to get.
What do we do?
Here's. This looks important.
Well, I feel like these big boxes and cords do something.
Yeah, it's all Vietnamese. Well, we're here. From what we can see, it looks very nice. They have a great view.
Wow. Seriously, this view is pretty incredible.
Okay, great.
Thank you so much.
Thank you very much.
That was our host. He came to our rescue and turned the lights on and he was super nice. I love this place.
Yeah, this is quite.
Look at all this space.
This is quite the upgrade.
In this apartment, we have not one, but two bedrooms. How will we choose?
Ouch.
That really hurts. The camera hit my arm. This one's pretty cozy.
That one's very firm.
It's firm, but it's cozy.
Yeah, very firm.
It's better than the one in Seoul.
So much better than the one in Seoul. It felt like sleeping on springs.
I love sole, but they don't do better.
It was like a sheet over springs. That's what we've been sleeping on for the last week. This is so nice.
I cannot believe how much space we have. We made a good decision for half the price.
Okay.
I touched it.
So we've ordered instant noodles.
The only problem is my tray table doesn't stay up by itself, so I literally have to hold it up with my legs so it doesn't slide off.
Oh, I miss soul.
