Today is day two in Lima. We normally don't do this, but we are vlogging before coffee because we're really excited about the breakfast place that we're going to.
Today is kind of a fun day.
Really.
Have any plans? We haven't had that kind of day in a while. We've been on a lot of tours. That van was really loud and sorry if you're not a fan of tours, but we haven't had to, like, choose what we want to do in a long time.
Kara just really wants to talk to the camera today. I think she misses being able to just, like, say whatever she wants.
I always say whatever I want.
Tell them all the ideas that you had.
I just was thinking about all these things in bed last night that I wanted to share with the vlog. Like, about how Lena wrote reminds me so much of Barcelona, how it's like this big city and then you're at the beach. Like, you don't feel like you're in a beach town, and then it's like, boom, beach. I love that I could live here.
We may take advantage of that today because I really want to try surfing again, even though that never goes well for vlog content, because me trying surfing is just embarrassing. I just really want to do it. You had way more things you wanted to say.
Oh, we're, like, super behind on editing. Like, by the time time you see this, who knows what country we're going to be in?
Probably we're at this point, we're almost a full month behind our real life.
Last year, we were so good at uploading every day. Like, I would stay up till whatever hour it took to upload a video. But, like, this year, we've had things going on in the mornings, like on our tours or flights or something. And I want to be like a functional, happy human. So I've been forfeited finishing videos in order to get sleep in order to function the next day. And so we've just gotten really behind it. I feel so bad.
But we're gonna catch up more on that later.
We have a secret.
Okay. This has been, like, way too much talking to start a vlog. If you're not a regular viewer, you didn't care about any of that. Sorry.
Now we're going to get breakfast coffee.
So yesterday, at the very start of our food tour, Erica took us to this place that she said had the best bread in town. It's called El Pan de la Chola, which I think translates to the bread of the chola.
There were tons of different breads, like everywhere. And at night it turns into a pizza place. So we might come back to pizza.
Yeah, we didn't get to eat here. She just like, tempted us and told us that it was the best bread in town. So we've really been looking forward to coming back.
And we met the owner, so maybe we get to talk to him again today.
This is what it looks like. Very dark.
I have bread with Amazon.
Whoa, what is that?
No.
Maybe go tell her that we wanted two Americana.
Will you go do it?
We've now been in South America for over three months and we speak an embarrassing amount of Spanish. Very, very little. Somehow this morning, instead of getting two Americanos, we got two feta sandwiches instead of our coffee. But Paris wanted it out for us. We have coffee now. I also have one of the most delicious things that I've ever. It's like a super sugary chocolate design and it's amazing.
Woo.
I am full.
That was incredible. Seriously, one of the best things that I've ever put in an album.
The avocado was this like perfect ripeness. Like they sliced it at the perfect hour of ripeness and put like sea salt on it. If you come with garlic on my toast.
If you come to Peru, you have to go to that place. Whether you have to take a taxi, whatever, to get to it, it's totally worth it. Jonathan, the guy that owns it, is awesome. Seriously, if there was a restaurant concept that I was going to bring back to our hometown of Nashville, that would be it. It's like a hipster Panera bread.
That's exactly what it is with no salad.
What are we doing now? Beach. So this is going to look like I'm eating a giant ice cream cone right after a cinnamon rol breakfast. But it's been a few hours.
We went home to edit for a little while after all that talk about being really behind on our videos. And now we're having ice cream cones for lunch. Then we're going to the beach.
Oh, so good. This is really good. So big. That's the place we're at. We also had this place recommended on our food tour yesterday. We're pretty much just taking all of Erica's recommendations so far. She's 100%.
This is usually what it looks like when we eat together.
Bus it on our phones.
So we just got to the beach. Very crowded with surfers.
Not the weirdest noise. Seems like the majority of the good surfers are in this direction. So that's the area that I will avoid to try not to get into anybody's way. There's some children learning how to surf over here, so that's probably where I'll be. Seven bucks to rent a board for three hours. But I was like, where should I go? They pointed to the ocean, so they give it a shot. I did get a rash guard, though. First time I ever tried surfing, my nipples bled. So hopefully this will help avoid that. They also recommended the very large board, which I think is what you recommend for beginners. It's supposed to be easier to stand up on, but also, like, 10 times harder to paddle out into the ocean. I'll be exhausted and sick of this for 30 minutes.
This is not comf. At least these are big, smooth rocks. In Croatia, they were tiny, sharp, pokey rocks. It's really not as bad as it looks.
I am not even going to take the GoPro. I'm just going to concentrate on attempting to ride waves. If I ride a few, I'll come back and get it. Chances are the GoPro will never touch the water.
There he goes.
The ocean. Speedy. I'm so tired. Seriously. I hadn't even gotten all the way out there, and my shoulders were already on fire from paddling. That's the problem. It takes so much energy to get out, and by the time I get out there, they don't even have the energy to, like, catch the wave or try to get up.
I'm sor.
I have no clue how they don't hit each other. There are so many paragliders right now. We are calling it a day at the beach. I'm embarrassed at how unsuccessful my surfing attempt was. Next time I try that, work out my shoulders for, like, two weeks before, if that'll help and make it more enjoyable. Now we are on the hunt for dinner, but it's like, starting Easter weekend, and I think yesterday we learned that Lima's, like, 70% Catholic. It seems like everything is closed tonight.
We're having trouble finding open things on TripAdvisor. We really wanted chifa.
Chifa. What is it? Chifa.
That's what I said.
I said chifa, chifa. Okay, that too.
It's like Chinese, Peruvian. Apparently that's a thing. But we just learned from Erica that that's in the.
What is it?
Lima Center.
Yeah, the central district, which we're saving for tomorrow.
So I don't know what we're gonna do. We've decided on ceviche. So we're on the hunt for a good ceviche restaurant. This one's closed. This one's closed.
Was really nice. And when we couldn't eat at his restaurant.
So they are closed.
Are you closed? Yes. They said they ran out of fish, rice.
Many, many, many, many people.
It's amazing.
No fish, no seafood, no rice, all this. He said today was a very special day. Today is a special day. They're out of everything. So they closed the doors.
I don't know what we're gonna eat.
We're gonna starve.
We might have to go to kfc.
How much of a bummer would it be to eat at kfc? While we were in Lima, the food capital of South America, everybody's closed for Easter.
Is this becoming humorous? Everything is close. We are going back to the bread place that we ate for breakfast this morning. Maybe they're open for dinner.
It's been quite the adventure. It's a very healthy looking pizza.
How big? That worked.
This really did scare me. What is it?
