Learning to eat INDIAN FOOD in Singapore's Little India

YouTube vlog by Nate Buchanan (with Kara and another speaker) documenting a visit to Singapore’s Little India. They sample street and restaurant foods (notably chapati at Ozmi Restaurant), learn how to eat curry and chapati with hands, try local items including crayfish, noodles, durian and an ice-cream sandwich, and later visit Marina Bay/Gardens by the Bay area to watch fountains/laser show and a parade. The video mixes food tasting, cultural learning (eating with hands), brief location commentary (Gardens by the Bay conservatories), and casual travel reactions and humor.

Sad.
I am so excited. Love cereal.
Today we are going to little India for lunch because it's lunchtime and we.
Have a lot of.
Let's go, please.
I'm also excited to prove that I know how to wear my hair down and not in a bun on top of my head.
Yay.
However, I still haven't tweezed my eyebrows, and I'm still using Nate's deodorant. Asian people love this thing. It is hilarious. Yes, it moves.
My sense of smell is very overwhelmed.
Good or bad? Pretty good. Smells good.
The fruit was so strong.
And flowers.
Yeah. And food spices. According to the Internet, Ozmi Restaurant is the place to eat here. This no frills corner eatery is arguably the best place in little India to sample freshly baked chapati. It says from $1 to $5. So if we don't like it, we're gonna go somewhere else.
My kind of place.
You see the chicken? Ah, thank you. Then fried chicken, masala, and chapati too.
This one?
Yeah.
Okay. Take your seat.
Okay.
Yeah.
You can take lamb.
Lamb.
Okay.
Man.
Holy moly. This looks good. Thank you.
This is your chapati.
All right.
And the chicken for you.
Yes. Rice.
Cook.
And the spoon.
Okay. So how do we eat.
It in here? Like a.
Like a cockroach.
What is the proper way to eat? This. Yeah, you right. Te this. Ah, that's right.
I wanted to make sure we're doing it right.
Very different. Please see your. But do not operate.
No, you must use the t. Put.
The chicken like that.
No, you eat the curry.
Ah.
Then use the chicken. Then use chicken. Then you take the cucumber like that.
No, no, no.
You take this first. Use the chapati first.
Ah.
Wash it down with cucumber. Ah, that's good. Learning the proper way to eat Indian.
Curry. Here.
You didn't eat with my hand.
And also against cooler. Our people mostly use hand so I.
Could just grab it like this.
Hand is very different. The friendly speaker.
Ah.
The taste.
Oh, thank you.
Ah. Your thumb pushes it into your mouth.
Like this.
What?
You can take more too.
Thank you very much.
Good, good.
In the traditional way.
Yep.
Lots of those.
Several small bones in that bite. Now what do I do? Wow. That was a great experience.
I'm so glad we picked this one.
The food was good, but the experience was, like, 10 times better.
The man was so nice. He kept coming and correcting how I was eating my food because I wasn't eating it right.
It was a great learning experience. First time eating real Indians.
It was awesome. I love these Sequins.
We've been walking around Little India for, like, two hours, and this is the first Indian that I've seen. You can do it, Kara. Just a little bit longer.
Doctor. So happy Wonder they have tweezers.
Before this year is over.
We'Ll learn how to wield one of these swords.
First successful trip to the supermarket.
Now I just see tweezer. India far exceeded my expectations.
It's fantastic.
So now we are heading to a place called Marina Arena Bay, which is a fun area on the water, and it has this big, famous garden. It's called Gardens by Bay. It's like a billion dollars and has, like, half a million species of flowers and trees and everything.
Our battery's dying.
Oh, no.
Sam.
There were two of these glass buildings. One's a cloud forest, and the other is a flower garden. But they were, like, $20 to go in, and it kind of reminded me of the Opryland Hotel. So we're not paying that.
I wouldn't mind some noodles.
I'm in, like, a noodle withdrawal right now. Haven't had them in, like, two days.
I'm about to eat one of those.
Not everything we try can be a winner.
Kara's pretty disappointed I'm not excited about this. What?
Because my hands are gonna get so gross trying to open this crayfish, and I'm gonna get, like, one bite of food.
She hates it when she has to work for food.
How are you supposed to eat this?
None of this is edible. You want to train?
Would you like me to open it for you?
No.
You don't like sticky hands either.
He really wanted noodles.
Not these noodles. Nate was really nice and traded with me, so now he's gonna eat the crayfish.
Not really excited about this.
Really doesn't taste that bad. It's just more the idea of what's happening now. I don't suck at this one.
Care of. Was that your first disappointing meal of the trip?
It was.
You didn't take it very well.
I had high expectations. Thanks for being nice, even though I wasn't.
That was pretty disappointing. It wasn't very good.
Kate has been looking for an ice cream sandwich for days. Actually, since yesterday. Because we got here yesterday. It is literally an ice cream sandwich.
Is literally a dollar red bean. Sweet corn.
Durian. Durian.
Durian.
Durian.
No more. Last one. Last one.
Do you get a bread or these? Up to you. You hungry? Bread? Yeah. Okay. Thank you. Thank.
You.
Lots of interesting things.
I don't really know how to feel about durian. And then I don't really know how to feel about white bread and ice cream together, but I'm gonna finish it. It's pretty good. This is the best view of the entire trip. Check it out.
Right now, we're waiting on the laser show that's supposed to go on with the fountains in the water.
We're not sure if we're in the exact right spot to watch it. So if the next clip looks crooked, that's why.
Turn your hand this way.
Okay. This way.
Siri, where do we eat? At Little India in Singapore.
Yes.
Look at that.
Oh, like, so close. 350ft.
No, I can't do that. All right, hold. Tilt your hand more. Like this? No, like. Like in that direction. So you're going to go up. All right, now flatten it out just a little bit. That's way too much. Now up. Perfect. Don't move. Gum is literally illegal in this country. What are the chances that I get gum? Almost. That looks so fake. It looks like I'm sitting in Las Vegas. What's that casino that has the sky? Yes. It looks like I could like to own touch it.
This is a real sky. We were just walking across the bridge, and then we saw this huge parade festival thing across the road. So we ran here, and here it is.
What's happening?
Just keeps going.
Still no clue what's happening. But we caught the last song of the parade.
Now it's over. This music was stolen from a speaker at an Indian electronics store.
Now my arm's sore from holding the camera up to the speaker.
