LEAVING THE END OF THE EARTH - El Chalten | Patagonia day 4

A travel vlog transcript by Kara and Nate Buchanan documenting Day 4 of their Patagonia trip: traveling north from Ushuaia to El Calafate, then by van to El Chaltén (near Mount FitzRoy). The chunk covers airport scenes and a Latam flight, a long scenic 200+ km drive with stops (river views, empanadas, alfajores), loss of audio for subsequent days, arrival and hotel overlooking the town, a briefing by trekking guide Roberto, and anticipation for hiking the next day.

We've had such a fun couple days here in Ushuaia but unfortunately we are going north and leaving the end of the earth.
Today we are flying from Ushuaia to El Calafate and then from there we ride, I think like a bus or a van to El Shatan where the famous Mount FitzRoy is.
Good morning you guys.
Good morning.
Good morning.
We're getting one last photo opportunity in Ushuaia. This is quite the spot for a view. Almost 360.
We just arrived at the airport and our driver. Gracias, ciao. He printed out our boarding passes again and it's just so nice for a change to be able to just show up at the airport, not have to worry about how to take the bus. Here, have our boarding passes ready. It's just been a breeze, especially with all of the hard times that we've had the last few weeks. Just things messing up and bookings falling through.
What she means is she's glad I can't screw anything up on this trip.
I can't wait to fly over the mountain.
Good morning ladies and gentlemen and welcome to the flight 4438.
SAM.
Ladies and gentlemen, please be careful whenever in the Oxybins as heavy articles might have shift around during the flight. Make sure to use your personal belonging with you. On behalf of Latan and the entire crew I would like to thank you for joining us on this trip and we look forward to seeing you on board on another Latam flight zone. Have a great day.
We just landed in El Calafate. It looks like a whole bunch of nothing out here. It's awesome.
That's us.
Hola.
Hola.
Oy.
Nice to meet you.
A very nice man from Southern Explorations picked us up. We have this huge van all to ourselves and we are driving over 200km to El Chan and I think we're stopping in along the way.
We're about 20 minutes into the drive and we already had to stop to take a picture. This is the Rio Santa Cruz. It is so blue and gorgeous and it runs all the way through this region.
Okay, right after this magical moment of a guanaco jumping over a fence. This is where we lost all the all audio for the next four days. If you don't know what I'm talking about refer to the previous video. From now on it's just going to be our voices. Hope you enjoy it.
The next thing we did was stop at the first restaurant we had seen for miles and had some quality empanadas in the local dessert Alpajores.
We continued the drive through the breathtaking scenery. And of course, I fell asleep as usual.
Sam.
Two hours later, we arrived at the tiny town of El Chatan, near Glacier National Park.
I think it's safe to say we had the best hotel in town. It was up on a hill overlooking the rest of the town, and there were mountains surrounding us everywhere.
Later that evening, our trekking guide, Roberto, met the group to brief us on our adventures for the next two days.
After that, we had a delicious dinner that was included in our stay at the hotel. I think the views were as impressive as our meal.
This travel day was a great way to rest our legs after several hard days of trekking. But we're ready to hit the trail again tomorrow.
I feel a lot of pressure. Feel like my vocal cords are.
Okay. Dang it. Do I sound hoarse? I feel like I sound hoarse.
Hope you enjoy it.
That was great.
Okay.
My turn.
Yep.
Is that super corny?
Yeah.
All right, put it in there.
All right.
