Lisbon FREE Walking Tour & Portuguese FOOD!

A travel vlog by Nate Buchanan (with Kara Buchanan and Kayla) documenting a day in Lisbon: they join a "free" walking tour (guide named Nuno) after an initial meeting-point mix-up, enjoy the guide and ~3-hour tour, sample Portuguese foods (deep-fried chocolate bun, sardines, swordfish, and large ice cream/gelato), and briefly consider visiting a Christ-like statue across the ferry but decide to spend ~€/$5 on gelato instead. The video is conversational, lightly humorous, and recommendation-forward (highly recommends the walking tour).

I was gonna try and look up what mocha was in Portuguese there.
Do you normally drink coke for breakfast?
No, I normally drink a mocha for breakfast. That sounds like Coca Cola.
New camera.
This morning, we are all trying something that none of us have ever done before. A free walking tour that we hear is not actually free. You're expected to tip a certain amount, but there's no technical price tag on the walking tour. This could make for very boring vlog content. We'll see.
Fitting the frame so well right now.
This is a good. Like.
Trying to keep my space here.
Like we're in a band. Me too.
Yeah. I think the color looks better on this. Do you feel that way? Yeah. Our other camera was. Was getting bad. Glad that lady waved him down.
I don't see a tour group currently, so we may be in the wrong location. Kara.
Do you want me to explain the situation?
So we said we were doing our walking tour at 10 this morning, and whenever we decided we were gonna do it, we kind of guessed where we thought the meeting place was. We're like, oh, it's probably the statue we were at. So this morning we just came here casually, got here with three minutes to spare to find that this is indeed not statue that we're supposed to meet at.
There's a pole behind you.
No, this is not exactly how the story went. Kayla and I had a little bit of a miscommunication. We knew it was a square with a statue in the middle. We just chose the wrong square with the wrong statue in the middle. So now we're gonna go try to catch the tour group. And if we miss them, we might have to postpone till this afternoon, which.
Is kind of a bummer because it's really hot in the afternoon. It feels so good right now. But it'll be fine.
We found it. They haven't left. There are a lot of people here.
Yes.
Hello. Are you looking for those pencil out? Yes, I know. You are already late.
Yes, we are very late.
Thank you.
We have joined up on the walking tour with 50 of our other closest friends. I think this is supposed to last about three hours.
Sam.
Closing thoughts on the walking tour.
Personally, I thought it was fantastic. I would do one in every city that we went to if that guide would follow us around and give us the history.
That's true. He's a lot of fun. Half the time in my head, I'm wondering if historians would agree with everything he says.
He was funny.
He was.
He made light of the relationship between Portugal and like every other Country.
It was good. Highly recommend it. If you come to Lisbon, we'll link the walking tours down below. Not sponsored or anything. They just did a great job.
Look for Nuno.
It's like a hamburger bun that has been hopefully deep fried, filled with chocolate.
Baron and I decided we couldn't make it to lunch without a snack.
Deep fried hamburger buns.
Is it hard to get us both in the fr.
Yes.
What's in the middle?
It was like, this tastes like chocolate icing.
This tastes like yum.
Kayla really enjoyed her bite.
You know, we picked the right place to eat. Our two guys sitting right over there.
What'd you get for lunch today?
Once again, I ordered fried fish and I got fried fish. Just not what I was expecting. I have not had good luck with ordering in Portugal.
I got sardines, which is fried. Bigger fish, actually. I think they're grilled. Bigger fish. Kayla, yours looks the best.
I got swordfish.
Yours looks like the picture.
Yep.
This is like a snack. Fish snack.
You eat them whole.
I'm proud of you. How is it?
It's a lot of work. More work than I like to put in when I'm eating. But the flavor is fantastic. So.
It'S almost worth the work.
Almost.
What is this technique you're practicing?
Nate, our tour guide, told us it.
Was right over there.
Yes. If you want to get the most meat off of your sardine, you have to take your piece of bread and massage it, and then it just slides right off the.
Have you been successful yet?
I don't think I'm doing. Hasn't worked yet.
They have turned off the lights of our section, so it's time to go. We're taking that as a queue 30.
Minutes ago, but now it's only coming highly recommended if you come to Lisbon.
Going to see the Christ the Redeemer?
Almost.
And we're going to see the. Is the bridge over there? Yeah. We're going to see the San Francisco Golden Gate bridge.
We're staying in Portugal.
We gotta get good seats.
Go, go.
We are attempting to visit the Christ the redeemer statue. I'm pretty sure that's not what it's called, but it looks like the one in Brazil. So we just rode the ferry across from Lisbon to some town that starts with a C. Now we're supposed to find bus 101.
Ignore the wind.
We haven't gotten a wind muff for our new camera yet.
We're not going to the statue anymore.
Turns out Kayla and Barrett are on the same page. We are with the Cheatness thing. This was not included in the public transport in Lisbon because I guess, technically, we're not in Lisbon anymore. So it's gonna be, like, $5 to go to the statue. We can see it from here. And we'd rather spend that money on gelato.
That's right.
Gelato, here we come.
Priorities back on the.
Sam.
Well, that is the biggest ice cream.
Cone I've ever seen.
Wow.
Thank you.
That is as big as your head.
We've been told this is the best ice cream in all of Lisbon. The lady who told us lived in Italy and said, it's better than the gelato. It's the best I've ever had. End of video.
Apparently, you can get three flavors.
Strawberry, chocolate, and chocolate oreo. Oh, it's dripping already.
How do you think you pronounce that?
Looks like as, say, espadas Aseus.
Badas.
As say as badas.
Well done.
You left us alone out here with.
The camera, and am I even in the spring? Yeah, you're in there.
I would be mad if my head's cut off. I don't know.
I'm not.
This is why we can't vlog, and.
Because there's not really much I have.
To say right now, I'm definitely not in there.
All right, I'm Nate right now. Getting a good shot.
You ready for this?
Ace of spades.
Now that was cool. You want to do the reverse?
Oh.
I liked whatever was happening. How many steps are we at today?
16,124.
Sip.
1.
And 45. We just had lunch, and it's 4.
43. Lunch.
Ish. Do we think that burn off our donuts that we ate earlier?
Absolutely not. We will not burn those donuts off for a while.
