Lisbon to Algarve Coast | NOTHING Went as Planned

A conversational travel vlog following Nate Buchanan, Kara Buchanan, and Barrett traveling from Lisbon toward Portugal's Algarve coast. The group faces multiple travel mishaps: a two-hour wait at the car rental counter (they were upgraded to a Series 2 BMW/minivan), difficulty finding open restaurants (many closed in the afternoon), a pragmatic stop at McDonald's for food and bathrooms, trouble accessing the coastline, then deciding to turn back to reach their Airbnb in Tavira. They arrive late after a long day (left apartment ~10:30 AM; day ran until about 10:00 PM) but maintain a light, positive tone.

All.
We just ubered to the airport with.
And now we are about to pick up a rental car and drive south to what used to be believed to be that. Right.
What used to be believed to be.
We're going to the beach. We're going to the end of the world. Saw grace.
We made a huge mistake. I just heard somebody up there said they've been waiting for two hours.
Is there anywhere else to rent a car in all of Portugal?
We've already paid for this one.
Hopefully this doesn't take two hours. But I've got a bad feeling that it's going to Almost. There.
Is the man. He's a negotiating fiend.
We got upgraded from a.
What's it called, a really small car to a Series 2 BMW. Been waiting in a line that looks a lot like that. And Nate just closed the deal.
We had to wait in line for two hours. But we did get upgraded to the minivan sports car thing.
We're back at our airbnb. Tell us why, Barrett.
We are. Well, because this is my favorite key and turns out I can't just keep it. So take it back.
It's currently 2 o'. Clock.
We leave at 10 o'. Clock.
Slightly behind schedule.
Around dark. This is the route that we are taking to Sagres. Except maybe we'll go to the coast over here and continue down.
Don't worry. Everything's fine. We got it. We're all good. The only reason why we came back was to get this little thing that Nate and Carol left at the apartment. So we got it all ready to go.
Just to be clear, we were perfectly fine leaving that behind.
I don't remember that being the case.
Barrett, the B roll on the way to SOG race is now in your control, my man.
See, look at this. Hang on. I know what I'm doing.
Yeah.
Great form.
Yep.
I feel good about.
It. Says open.
They closed at 3.
A restaurant on your left and also another one on your right. But you have to go a little bit further.
Okay. Okay. We open at seven.
Thank you.
Abregado.
They're closed.
Try number two on the restaurant. We may or may not have driven down at least one one way road. We did.
Nate did a great job.
We were cursed out in what I assume we were cursed out in Portuguese. Not sure what he was saying, but he did not look happy. Thankfully, the car is intact.
Show them the hand signs he used.
I get a lot of that. Yeah. Might be the inner. Might be the middle finger of Portugal we're not sure. I could just do one of those. If all else fails, I think we missed lunchtime in this city. Almost everything was closed except for the pastry shops. Going to the next city, we saw some signs from McDonald's, which I guess.
4 o' clock's a little late for lunch, so it's Leonard.
We're not extremely proud of this decision, but waiting at McDonald's for lunch, because it's open, it has food and bathroom. They might be taking an afternoon siesta like the rest of Santiago, but hopefully not.
That one's so much smoother than mine. Good decision.
Yeah, it was.
That was good.
Good decision.
For some reason, I expected it to be really. How long till we get there?
Two hours.
Two more hours.
Back on the road.
We have taken a detour. We're trying to find the ocean and.
Then down to 26.
We know it's near. We're having trouble getting to it.
Trying to find the smallest road possible.
To fit the BMW down.
I think you're going down this little squirrel.
Look at that. Yes.
I knew it.
It's there.
It'll be at least an hour, if not more. Well, if we touched where we're gonna park and then literally came back, it'd be an hour from now before we even got to go. We need to figure out, like, we need to figure out whether or not.
Is it a. Is it for sure that our Airbnb. Like, do we need to be there at nine?
I mean, we're already two hours late if we go at nine. So here's the sitch. We're trying to get to the end of the world.
The end of the world's gonna be really foggy, and it's closing.
Turn around.
They're closing. The end of the world. They're closing.
The end of the world as we know it. Minutes after we are supposed to be arriving, which is in about a half hour. So we're considering turning around even though we've gone about an hour and a half out of the way to get to the end of the world to go to our Airbnb because we're scared if we're any later, they're not going to be there to let us in.
So it'd be a problem if we're in the car at the airport. We. It have taken less than two hours.
This is all Avis's fault.
We did not.
We did not learn from Avis.
It's still a fault from y trip before, I think.
All right, we're turning around. We're abandoning our search for the end of the world.
Oh, it's happening, Tavira. Here we come.
We just got to our new Airbnb, and it's literally someone's house. And it's huge.
So much more space than we have.
In our other room, we have a living room. One bedroom, one bathroom.
Of the day. Two bedrooms. Good job, Kayla.
We chose our room.
Grocery.
And now we're going to get some groceries. Are we getting dinner or just snacks? Making our own dinner. I'm going to get some snacks, maybe some popcorn. Tonight.
We do have cable. We have TV channels and we have a PlayStation. Maybe we can watch the Olympics.
Guys, I don't know. What?
Oh, there's a Pingo. Y' all want to go to Pingo?
Pingo Doce.
It's open till going to the Pingo.
No, it's open till 9:30.
No. Yeah.
The grocery store was closed then. We spent 15 minutes looking for a parking spot in this whole town.
Pretty much the way the entire day has gone. Not as expected. And at the same time, even though everything has gone wrong, even though what should have taken us three hours took us from when we left our apartment at 10:30 this morning till 9:30. It's almost 10 o' clock now. All we've done is eat at McDonald's today.
That was a success.
We spent some good time with family.
It's been fun. It's been a great day.
There's been some rough times, but it's been fun.
So now we just got out, and we're just gonna walk and see what we see and then just call it a day.
We figure if we make no plans, the plans can't go wrong.
Can't find the record.
But I'm not.
I know I can't think of one.
Hit me, baby.
Kayla is out.
The time has come Stand for all we believe.
Almost. Do you think that tastes for love in Portuguese? I want to know.
Control it.
We got all settled in. Actually, no, we're not settled.
Can't see y'.
All.
Yeah, we have this little red spot.
Spotlight. We do.
Here we go.
Do you know where you're going?
We are going on a group grocery shopping trip. Now you're red.
I'm like.
Yeah.
