LUXURIOUS SAFARI LODGE | Victoria Falls

This is a vlog-style YouTube video (uploaded by Nate Buchanan on July 26, 2016) documenting Nate and Kara Buchanan's visit to a luxury safari lodge near Victoria Falls. The video shows arrival and club-lounge welcome, a club-upgraded room tour (Nespresso machine, complimentary fridge contents, waterfall shower and tub), a lodge tour with a watering hole where elephants, buffalo and monkeys appear, and an evening at The Boma featuring traditional chibuku beer, local meats (impala, warthog, guinea fowl, pork), mopani worm (makumi) tasting with certificates, and a communal drumming performance. The tone is enthusiastic and experiential.

Hello.
How are you? Good.
How are you? Welcome to Victoria for safariland.
Thank you very much.
Thank you so much.
Welcome to you. Thank you.
Cheers.
Cheers. How are you doing?
I'm Nate.
I'm Augustine, sir. I'm a club manager. Welcome to the club.
Thank you. Go straight through.
All right. Just some refreshing homemade lemonade.
Thank you.
You're welcome.
Cheers. Check out this.
There was a little bit of confusion when we got here, hence the second welcome drink. But it all worked out because we got upgraded to the club resort. So right now we're on the club lounge.
Welcome home away from home.
This is gorgeous.
So this is our room.
This is our big, huge, massive bed.
That's our computer that has blazing fast Internet. The vlog uploaded in 10 minutes, which is insane.
Never happened before. This is the nespresso machine I just used.
This is our complimentary fridge.
Since we have a club room, the fridge isn't free. Just the stuff inside. Yeah.
This is our bathroom. It's like it's very own room with this really awesome light. And there's a waterfall shower, this tub that I'm about to put to good use with some bath salts. Can't wait to do that.
Whoa.
Since we got upgraded to the safari club, we get to go enjoy complimentary tea time.
Tea time was wonderful. And now we want to take you on a tour of the lodge.
So cool.
I'm definitely gonna make myself at home in one of these tomorrow.
Oh, man.
Find yourself a good place to enjoy sunset.
And that wraps up the tour of our lodge.
We found the perfect place to watch the sunset over the watering hole. In my opinion, the biggest reason to come to this hotel is because they have a watering hole where soon elephants and buffaloes should be showing up. The buffalo bar, which is like this seating area right down here, made Guinness list of the top bars in the world. And with this view, you can see why.
Well, the sunsets in Africa just keep getting better.
And the elephant showed up at the end, which I was super pumped about. They waited till, like, the very last second and made me nervous that we weren't gonna get to see them.
A whole little family of them. And the monkeys were going nuts. The dust was coming up everywhere because they were just running around. And there was a bird that was.
Like, probably the biggest bird I've ever.
Seen flying over the water hole. It was cool.
Now we're gonna go get ready for dinner, and it should be really interesting from what we hear. Something about drums and weird meats and caterpillars.
Yes.
Kara might Be doing? Dancing, Heading to dinner at the Boma.
How are you?
Good, thank you. It's already sounding crazy.
What is this that she's wearing?
Oh, you look beautiful. Yay. Nice. Did I get a hat like you?
She's been here for, like, two seconds and she's already dancing.
Been here for, like, two seconds?
I didn't say no.
Warrior mark. I love it.
You're such a warrior.
I don't think they were joking about the worm thing.
You doing it Ready?
And crocodile. And a whole fish today. Whoa.
That's a pig. Oh, Front row.
Good evening.
Welcome to Velma.
Thank you.
My name is Taka, your waiter tonight.
Yes. Thank you. Thank you.
Thank you.
I love that. What is this that you're pouring traditional beer?
That's chibuku. It's a welcoming drink in the restaurant. I like it. A taste. The beer is made out of corn, maize, yeast, and soga. And seven days to ferment. Cheers to the beer.
Cheers. Cheers. How is that, Kiara?
Stays fermented.
Like milky fermented beer.
Try our.
Yes.
We have 40 crocodile chow here. Had that for lunch. Y butter bread, corn fritters, and vegetable pie. Okay, first I'm trying the impala dipped in bean sauce.
It tastes like a really savory ham. There was like a piece of fruit or something in the middle, and it had a seed in it. And I think I ate the seed, but it was really good. I like impala. What's next?
I chose to start with the carrot soup and the cauldron, and naturally, Cara went for sushi.
You see, the other side is almost gone.
It is. Oh, thank you so much. I got a rib of the pig.
That was so good.
That's like, the most tender pork I've ever had.
Hey, buddy. What's up?
Can I get the meatballs, the warthog steak, and some veggies?
Thank you.
This isn't good. We already got our certificates for eating a worm. But we haven't eaten a worm. He just saw them on my plate.
I was just thinking about eating them. Now I feel like I have to. Oh, I smell dirty.
Do it.
You've had way bigger bugs.
So hard, though. Okay, ready?
Yeah.
Do it again. Just go do it.
Can you give us a voucher? For sure. It just tastes like dirt. Can we do that?
It tastes like really chewy dirt. This one too. Okay. Yeah, that's what I want to do.
Was it mushy inside or was it just crunchy?
Just really like. Like stale.
Well, now you can add a worm to your list. Of bugs that you've eaten and they're.
Like all stuck in my teeth.
It's official.
The Boma place of eating. Congratulations Kara, for successfully eating a mopani worm known in the local language as makumi.
Congratulations.
Thanks. I can still taste it. I'm gonna eat my sushi. He looks like he died in distress.
It's like really hard and I think I see little spikes on its back. There are definitely spikes. This should not be edible.
A lot of really bad one.
Yeah you do. You don't get the certificate.
That looks so chewy. I know.
It lasted a very long time.
Woohoo.
That was worse than I thought it was gonna be. Yeah.
Look what you have now to reward yourself.
The meatball looks delicious.
Also add onion in that bite.
Yum.
Doused in some kind of sweet sauce. Looks like maybe a cranberry in there.
Yum quality.
Our live band has started and I found one other meat that I've never had before. Guinea fowl. It's a little gameier.
Close to like turkey.
Something's happening. They're whistling and shaking things. It.
Woo. We are just given a drum.
We're waiting on further instructions. Hello.
Good evening. Tonight we're gonna have a drumming show. And this is a session where everybody's gonna take part. Let's get drumming.
So much focus.
Rock it out, nate.
Thank you for not getting me.
I. I thought about it. I made me really mad. I thought the old man would like it a lot more. My favorite restaurant in the whole wide world.
I want to stay here forever. This is the best room.
Oh, I forgot I had it on both sides.
I kind of scraped mine off when I still look like a warrior. Yeah, you look like you just got that fight. Hey.
This is about how my eye looked last week. It is now something special for you.
Enjoy the news you.
Thank you.
We just got our very own acapella group.
Come.
