Malaysian STREET FOOD Tour! | 9 Hour Layover in Kuala Lumpur

Kara and Nate Buchanan vlog their short journey from Bali to Kuala Lumpur during a travel day. With a nine-hour layover they leave the airport to explore Kuala Lumpur’s street food and nightlife: pork buns, fried dough (Malaysian-style donut), satay (10 pieces ordered), and a rooftop helicopter-pad bar where they meet the Malaysian country manager for Turkish Airlines. The video documents travel logistics (lounge, storing bags, using Grab) and food experiences.

Thank you very much.
Thank you. Thank you.
Any chicken nuggets?
Thank you very much.
If you haven't already guessed, today we're leaving Bali. We're really sad about it because we love this place way more than we thought we would.
Today starts a very long but very exciting journey back to the U.S. the.
First step of this long travel journey is just a short flight from Bali to Kuala Lumpur.
But first, coffee in the lounge. I love travel days.
Yum.
What all do they have?
Fruit, weird fruits, veggies, bread, toaster. Toasted bread. That thing. Rice, veggies.
Ooh.
Samosas, Chicken soups, chocolates. And all of these drinks.
Air.
So.
And we're off to Malaysia.
They're making west call announcements. We stayed in the lounge way too long. They're making.
Close one. We were so greeted with a smile. They're not mad, but we are lost.
Thank you. Lovely. Melinda is my new favorite airline stewardess just told me it was beautiful.
We have the entire 1, 2, 3, 3, 4, last 5 rows of the plane all to ourselves.
Travel hack book the last 20 seats.
Also EVs.
Sam.
We have made it to Kuala Lumpur and we have nine hours until our next flight takes off.
If you've watched any of our travel day videos, you know we love layovers and lounges. But today we're going out into Kuala Lumpur. Even though we've already been there, we're.
Going to mix it up. We're going to go meet up with a new friend, eat some street food and watch food. Some sunset.
Hello.
One stories. Yes. Play jenga.
Now I got. All right, let me.
They may never come out.
I hope I don't need anything out of those.
Oh, yeah. It's shut. Somehow, somehow we fit all of our stuff into this tiny locker.
We both just realized we left something in the locker. She let your phone. I need a credit card.
I feel like it's just going to explode.
I'm scared.
Me too. Oh, oh, that's fine.
We're not very good at this. We just remember we left our sunglasses in our bag. But we're just going to get over it. We're going to go sunglasses list tonight.
Bags are stored. Now we just had to figure out how to use this new Grab app to get an affordable taxi from the airport to the city center.
Yay. Hi, Grab.
Yeah. Cool. Nate. Yeah. Nice to meet you.
Have a good night. All right.
Bye.
We came straight to the booth street in the city center. And we are starting with one of our favorites. Pork buns. $4.
Thank I'M so excited. Oh, it's smoking hot. Ouch. I don't know how many people watching this video have been around since our pork bun days, and we fell in love with them. It's called a bun.
Let's go eat it. How do we eat this thing?
We eat it with our hands.
But I'm so excited for this. They're never the same outside of Southeast Asia.
Oh, my gosh. Look at that.
Just as good as I rem. This is like a super fluffy, like, feels like a fresh baby's bottom bun. And the inside is this super juicy pork. I'm going to eat, like, 10 of these and be done. But we're going to try some new.
I have no idea what we're about to order here. We just went to the little street stall that was packed with the most people. It looks like they're frying some kind of dough. It looks like a Malaysian donut. So we're gonna try. I'm gonna try. Scared doesn't like donuts.
Cinnamon? Yes.
Cinnamon.
Sugar? Yes.
I think this is some version of a Malaysian donut. They had several different kinds to choose from. She told me this one was packed with cinnamon and sugar and that sol.
Oh, yeah. It's just a big fried piece of dough with a little bit of cinnamon inside. It's delicious.
Dave just ordered us 10 pieces of satay, which is meat on a stick. While those are cooking, I'm gonna get one of our other favorite meals that we've missed. So.
I know banh mi is Vietnamese and not Malaysian, but we're close enough, and we're about to leave Southeast Asia, so we just had to take advantage while we were still here.
Even better than I remembered. This is the real reason we came. This is Malaysian satay. They take the meat, put it on a stick, and grill it on this open fire. Last time we were in Kuala Lumpur, we didn't get a chance to try it. Now it's our chance. And it comes with this bag sauce.
This is so delicious. It has some kind of sweet glaze on it already. And this is, like, spicy peanut sauce. We have to eat all this fast because we're gonna miss this.
Finally. Me too.
Hey.
So nice to meet you.
Nice to meet you.
Awesome.
So when I was researching what we should do on our only evening here in Kuala Lumpur, I came across this place. It is actually an active helicopter pad that every evening they turn into a bar. So they just bring a bunch of chairs and tables up here. And we've come here to meet our new friend. He is the country manager for Turkish Airlines here in Malaysia.
Hi.
In our next video, you'll see why we're hanging out with Hamza and why we have a new love for Turkish Airlines.
The first step of this travel journey is just a short bite, right?
What fun was it? Easter was a long time ago and they sold all their Easter decorations.
They all turned.
Oh, so close.
There we go. Okay, here.
