This is a spoken-word YouTube vlog transcript of Nate and Kara Buchanan documenting travel from Mauritius to Johannesburg (uploaded Aug 15, 2016). They planned a beach morning but rain and broken Wi‑Fi kept them indoors, then went to the airport four hours early seeking a lounge and working Wi‑Fi. They check in, access an airport lounge, board a South African Airways flight (mixed impressions: helpful check-in staff, no seat-back TVs, onboard chargers, real silverware), experience a delay on the runway waiting for stairs, and arrive in Johannesburg for an overnight layover en route to Dar Es Salaam and Zanzibar. The vlog ends with logistics about hostel pickup and the cold weather.

So the plan for this morning was to get up, go to the beach and enjoy a few hours of sunshine before having to head to the airport. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate. It was rainy and cloudy all morning. So we ended up just sitting in our apartment and the wi fi wasn't working, so not quite the morning that we planned on.
So we're going to the airport a little early in hopes of finding a.
Lounge to hang out in and wi fi that works and we're going four hours early.
Thank you.
4 hours. It's too early to get to the airport. We can't check in till 2. It is 1:30, so we got some popcorn.
But at least there's Internet here.
Checking in now.
We are stamped out of Mauritius. Time to find a lounge.
Not bad.
Quickly take your shot. Thank you. The plane's about to board.
This is so much better than airplane coffee.
Kara, why are you running?
Has we stayed in the lounge too long?
We may have stayed in the lounge just a little too long trying to wait for the vlog to upload. We got a lot of ass ones on the plane.
Didn't leave us.
Didn't leave us. Now that man still has one on the plane.
Thank you. Welcome aboard.
They literally called our name over the intercom. I think that's a first. Press people aren't even sitting down yet.
I don't think in developing a love hate relationship with South African Airways. They're the airline that we've flown to, like most of South Africa. There's some things I really love about them. Like the guy when I was checking in, I told him about our strategy of booking an aisle and a window seat, hoping nobody sat between us. And he just blocked the seat between us so that nobody could sit there, which was awesome. But they don't have TVs. They do wear chargers or chargers. They do use real silverware when they serve you a meal, which is nice. There's like some big pros and some big nine. I can't decide how I feel.
The service is quality. The planes are not.
We trust that you've enjoyed your flight with us and we look forward to seeing you again in the near future. Once again, we are waiting on the Runway in Johannesburg. Last time they were having problems with the little car thing that brings the steps to the plane.
They're having trouble starting our stairs.
This time. I don't know what's happening, but we've been sitting here for at least 20 minutes.
Just another day in drama. What are you saying there?
Woo.
Got how cold it was here.
It's a race. Go, Cara. Why are you losing?
I was just kidding. We have nowhere to be except a hostel. We were lined up past this blinking light last time. We should link to this.
This might take a while.
Wow. We are back in Johannesburg. This is not our end destination. This is actually our third time here this year. We have a second overnight layover here. Our end destination is ultimately Zanzibar, which we fly out for tomorrow at 10:30. Actually, we fly out for Dar Es Shalom and then we fly to Zanzibar. A lot of transit these last 24.
So we're just sleeping here for one lonely night and then coming back to the airport.
Our hostel is supposed to be picking us up, but I haven't received an email so might be stuck in for a while.
I guess.
We just grabbed our bags. The hostel is. Well, not the hostel. Somebody who works for the hostel is on their way to pick us up. All is good, except for it's cold.
And this is what happens when you bring chips from the lounge on the plane.
