A travel vlog by Nate and Kara Buchanan documenting their first full day in Uruguay in Montevideo. They describe a warm Airbnb welcome (breakfast in a private courtyard), walk through pedestrian streets into the Old City, sample local flavors (dolce de leche ice cream, chorizo at Mercado del Puerto), share a money-saving tip (avoid a 70-peso table service fee by eating at the counter), look for buses (advised to use bus 14 or 104), and wind down with an afternoon rest and plans for the next day. The video mixes on-camera narration, local food scenes, and practical transit/host details.

This is going to be a true test of the wind Muff.
It is very breezy. Today is our first full day day in Uruguay and it's already been so good. I woke up to so many sweet comments and messages after our vlogiversary video. So thank you so much for starting our day off right.
We woke up this morning and our Airbnb host had set us up a table with breakfast in their private courtyard, made us some fresh coffee. It was a great start to the morning.
They are so precious.
Normally when we rent off of Airbnb we try to rent an entire apartment so we can stay alone. We've stayed with other people three times and so far all three of our host experiences have been awesome.
One of our hosts, Terry, just dropped us off on her way to work in the old city and told us what was in the surrounding area. So I think we'll start here.
First we're going to walk down this pedestrian street and we're going to take it all the way to the old city and then to the port market and somewhere in between we're going to find some food.
We're off to a great start. We already got some dolce de leche ice cream cones and now we're going to walk around this market.
So unlike the rest of the world where soft serve ice cream comes with chocolate and vanilla here and in Argentina they do dolce de leche and vanilla and I've really come to enjoy it, especially this morning. We've had a lot of dolce de la ver dulce delay flavored things since we've been here. But we had the real deal this morning on toast, which is apparently very authentic and it was delic.
Because of our lack of knowledge in South American history, we really had no idea how much of a European influence they have down here. The buildings here look like some of the buildings in Europe. Just such cool architecture. For example, this church. It looks like something you would see in Europe. It is big and awesome and we're about to go inside. Sam.
We are following our nose at this point to the market because it smells so good. No idea where it is.
So we were advised not to eat here because it was really expensive. But we went with one of the cheapest things on the menu, chorizo. We couldn't pass up the opportunity to eat here because the atmosphere is so good. Although I can feel the heat from the grill right here and I'm sweating. Looks delicious.
It's as delicious as it Looks.
I think it's really similar to what we had on our cherry pond in Buenos. Sorry.
Is my face red? We just like sat there for 30 minutes with the heat from the grill pounding our face. I have no clue how those guys do it all day, but the food was delicious. I'm really glad we decided to eat here. A little pro tip, if you eat at the counter, you don't get charged the like 70 peso service fee that they charge if you eat at the table. So I would say we are one of the few people who ate at this market and got out of here for less than 10 US dollars.
Here's the entrance.
Let's get some fresh air outside.
We are going to escape this midday heat by going home and taking a little break. And then we're gonna go to the beach. But first we have to figure out how to get on the bus because it's an hour walk.
So we found a place the buses are stopping. Unfortunately, this is the sign that we currently have to work with.
Our Airbnb host told us to catch either bus 14 or bus 104 to come here. So I'm hoping it's the same numbers going in the opposite direction.
We made it semi close to our place.
It is now 7:30. Obviously we did not end up going to the beach because somebody fell asleep. Like a deep, deep sleep that I attempted to wake her up from multiple times until I finally decided I guess she needed the rest.
Sorry. Now we're going to go get a cheap and healthy dinner because tomorrow we're doing another DIY Food.
