MOSCOW'S RED SQUARE | Real Life Travel

Nate and Kara explore Moscow's Red Square on day three, starting with lunch at Burger Heroes before hitting major sights. St. Basil's Cathedral costs $20 to enter and has been a state museum since 1928. Construction and closures block their path to the Kremlin's massive bell, and Google Maps keeps steering them wrong.

Oh, there it is.
Can you see it? You see the whole thing? Screenshot.
Today is day three in Moscow, and even though we've been here for three days, we have yet to see any of the big sights. So we're devoting today to seeing the Red Square and some other big sites here in Moscow that we've heard we have to see.
But first, food. It is lunchtime and we are going to a restaurant that the same girl who gave us all the recommendations yesterday told us to go to because they have the best burgers in Moscow.
And we can pronounce the name of this restaurant. It's called Burger Heroes.
It's not in Russia, but their menus are, so it's going to be interesting. The area around our place is all these huge walking streets with these big beautiful buildings and street performers. And I love.
I'm not sure what gave us away, but the guy handed us an English menu as soon as we walked in. So at least we know what we're ordering now.
Yummy. So one of the reasons we got burgers today is because, one, they sounded good, and two, we're going on a food tour in a couple of days and we'll have tons of Russian food. So we thought we would get this really unique looking burger. It has the black bun and cherry sauce, two things I've never had on a burger before, and fries.
I think we ordered ketchup, but this tastes like spaghetti sauce. Like tomato sauce, not like ketchup sauce.
It's weird.
I didn't actually get burger in that bite, but everything is so good. The cheese is super strong. I think the other white sauce might be like another cheese, which is my favorite. We highly recommend Burger Heroes. Just be warned, the ketchup tastes like marinara sauce.
It was like a super, super delicious burger. Wasn't sure how the cherry sauce and cheese would go together, but they went together great. Also, the acrylic language got confusing to me again. I was guessing which door was the bathroom because it started with a T. I was like, maybe that stands for toilet. And then I walked in. As soon as I got in there, there was a girl in there. And I was like, oh, crap, I've walked into the girl's bathroom. I think it was a unisex bathroom. Like different doors and a shared sink.
Yeah, because then I went in there and I was like, oh, it's a girl's bathroom. And there was a guy in there.
Just really scared me when I walked in and there was a girl in there, but she didn't Seem concerned. So, yeah. And then there was, like, some more writing on the wall that I couldn't read. It probably said, like, unisex.
Oh, I accidentally went in that room. It was a closet.
So. Still struggling with the language today makes it fun. Now we are heading to the Red Square.
I think we're here.
We have made it to the Red Square, except there's a big event being prepared for right in the middle of the Red Square. So our videos might not be as pretty as we had hoped, but we're gonna make the best of it. Walk around anyways. I'm getting glimpses of the Onion roof building that looks like Candyland over here. I'm really excited about that one. We found a sign in English. This is why all the construction is happening. There was a horse show up until yesterday, so maybe they'll finish before tomorrow and we can go back.
So St. Basil's Cathedral is probably what we are most excited about seeing today because it's so unique and pretty. And we learned that it's not even a church anymore. And ever since 1928, the Russian government has owned it and turned it into museum. And it's $20 to get inside, and you can't film in there. So we're thinking we're just going to look at the outside. It's a huge bummer, though, that there's construction in the square. So you can't even get far enough away to get the whole building in one shot.
So we've just come to the other side of the Red Square. This is the state Historical Museum behind me. This is another, like, big thing to see here in the square. But honestly, I'm just super bummed about today and the construction. Like, as you can see behind me, 90 of the red Square is gated off with these fences. So, like, we can't get any good shots of the building. And you just really can't, like, appreciate it because you can't walk out in the middle of it and just be surrounded by all of these giant buildings. So I'm trying to stay positive, but if I'm being completely honest, I'm super bummed out. I was really looking forward to making a good video for you, and I feel like I'm letting you down. And I've just been looking forward to experiencing the Red Square, and I feel like I'm missing out on it a little bit, and I feel like I'm complaining a lot. But with that said, we have heard that the biggest bell in the world is the located somewhere close to here. And we love anything that is the est. So we're going to go see if we can find that now.
Change of plans. There's a mall in the square that I'm pretty sure we can get into and it's called the GUM Mall. I'm not sure if GUM is an acronym or if it's actually called that. I'm just excited. There's something I can pronounce.
The sound of this music in the fountain and the windows. This is the nicest mall I think I've ever been in. And the pond down there has watermelons in it.
So all day today we've seen people walking around with these huge ice cream cones. And I think we spotted them. That lady is selling them down there. We try to figure out how to get downstairs. One pistachio, one chocolate.
Thank you.
We've gotten some ice cream. Our moods are reset. And now we are going to find the largest bell in the world. Wow.
I love this.
This is the tomb of the.
Wow.
So in addition to the Russian language being extremely challenging, Google Maps has also decided not really to work for us here. It's like one minute will be five minutes away from our destination and then the next minute the dot will be somewhere completely different on the map and we'll be an hour away from our destination.
And I can't figure out what anything is cuz I can't just google it.
We're standing in front of this giant man holding a cross and normally we just put it into Google Maps, but. Oh my gosh.
I think I found it.
What is it?
I googled statue of man holding cross Moscow. I'm pretty sure it's Vladimir. I don't know. Let's go find the belt. Getting cold.
Sorry about that. The sporadic time lapse was due to a little bit of technical issues on our first tour ever that I'm pretty sure we've sold out in under an hour with a few technical issues. Even super excited, we're probably going to be opening up another one. I don't know how much detail I can give right now, but you're gonna be watching this at a weird time.
5 seconds ago this said a 9 minute walk and now it's a 6 hour and 42 minutes. What in the world? But it only says a three minute car drive. This makes no sense. We just want to go. In addition to being seven hours from the bell, it just turned into winter in Moscow. It's freezing right now. Which had one of those fluffy hats from the market yesterday.
I think it's time to go home. We just walked in a gigantic circle to get to the bell and we can't get in. And what makes it even worse is we were just on the other side of this building right here. All we had to do was walk right this way and we were here. But instead, we walked all the way around Moscow and we can't get in.
So the reason we can't go to the bell is because it is inside of the Kremlin, and the Kremlin is probably closed by now. Plus, your stuff supposed to buy tickets.
Way in advance, so pretty much nothing today has gone as planned.
But this road has Christmas lights on it and it's been sunny all day, so I'll take those things.
So we've been talking a lot about Tespa tour on our email list, and we just made tickets available to everybody there today. But apparently people are having issues buying.
The tickets, and we've been lost in Moscow, unable to help them.
So for all of these reasons, the vlog is ending now, but people are.
Coming on our trip.
