OUR PERFECT VACATION (Better Than Our Honeymoon)

This is a first-person vlog by Nate and Kara Buchanan documenting a week-long stay at the Iberostar Grand Paraiso (an all-inclusive five-star resort in Mexico). The video contrasts ‘vacation’ vs. ‘travel’, and walks viewers through arrival, room/villa amenities, dining, pools, activities (gym, massage, spa, bike tours, casual resort entertainment), and relaxed daily routines over a single “perfect day.” The tone is light, enthusiastic, and experiential.

After spending two weeks at sea with very limited Internet, we were supposed to be spending the next week in an Airbnb working behind our computers.
But when a five star resort in Mexico reaches out and offers you a last minute stay.
We decided that we're going.
So this morning we got up before the sun, hopped in a taxi, boarded.
A flight and flew to Panama.
Which is where we are now. And we're about to board our flight to Cancun.
I can't believe we're actually going back to Mexico.
It's like a magnet, it keeps attracting us back.
We finally went in December after three years.
Only been three times in six weeks. But this time we're actually going to film something.
You have an upgrade to business class.
No way. Yes.
Are you serious?
4F.
This trip is off to a great.
The first time in three years of travel we've ever just received a random upgrade to business class. For no reason except for the fact that economy was full, Kara jumped around and made a pool of herself in the airport.
Everyone in the back of the line probably thinks, I'm sorry.
The lady was like.
I can't believe this is happening. Larger luggage may be placed inside the overhead jeans. Please place a smaller luggage, such as carry a bag of briefcases or packages.
Under the seat in front of you.
We request all passengers to remain seated.
Thank you.
All right, let's go.
Let's go.
Oh, you have a bicycle. Oh, nice.
This is why we put off working to come to Mexico. This is where we get to live for the next week. Let me show you around. Welcome to our new home.
And this is our backyard.
Can you believe how beautiful our villa is? I really can't. It feels like a dream. It's so nice. And they even brought us sparkling wine and chocolate. It's like we're on our honeymoon again. Except for this is way nicer than our honeymoon. It really does not take much to make me happy. But when we stay at resorts, there are two things that help determine my level of love. And that is how good is the robe and how good is the bed.
Yep, this robe is amazing.
And the bed is really nice. What do you think?
Shoulder's very hard.
You're on my hair. This is not romantic.
And just to keep it real, I am finally sitting down to eat one of these chocolates that I've been staring at for an hour while we've been filming the room.
Mmm, caramel. Oh, I got chocolate on my robe.
And this is my favorite part of the room. It comes with bikes.
These are so nice.
This place is huge. There's actually five different resorts on one property. So now I have these bikes to explore all of them. According to the Internet, we should have about five minutes until the sun sets. So let's see if we can figure.
Out where that is.
Where's the sun?
Oh, my gosh. We're at the Japanese restaurant right now in the resort, and we just got to talk to the chef. He is Peruvian, and so he infuses this Peruvian flavor into the Japanese food. It is the most magical combination. We just had the best sushi of our lives. One of my favorite meals we've ever had.
We might come back here every night. This might be the only restaurant you see at the resort.
I don't think anybody actually wants to get up early and go work out on their vacation. But you just feel so much better about yourself the rest of the day. At least that's what I tell myself to pull myself out of bed in the morning.
Without a doubt, the nicest hotel slash resort gym that I've ever been to. Maybe the nicest gym that I've ever been to, period. It's always so hard to make yourself get out of bed in the morning to go work out. But I'm always so glad that I did after it's over.
Thank you. Good morning. It is our first full day of vacation at the Iberostar Grand Paraiso in Mexico. And today we are going to take you along and show you our perfect day of vacation.
But before we do, we think we should specify that there's a big difference between vacation and travel. Travel is what we're normally doing. We're out seeing new sights, discovering new places, immersing ourself in a culture. But that's not always easy. In fact, I would say most of the time, it's not very easy.
Traveling can be very exhausting.
Take for example, it is 4am we are in a taxi.
Civilization. I'm so scared I'm gonna cry.
After eight hours of driving and we're seen by a river, they ravage on the spirit.
A vacation, on the other hand, is a trip that you take to rest and relax and rejuvenate and get pampered. And that's what we're doing this week.
But our perfect day, well, my perfect day of vacation actually started a couple hours ago. We're staying at an all inclusive resort, which means that we are going to be eating a lot today. So in order to feel less guilty the rest of the day, I headed to the gym for a Quick workout for one of the free boot camp classes that they offer.
Nate came back and jumped in the pool to go cool off. And that's where I joined him.
1, 2, 3.
Woo.
Refreshing. And now we've jumped back in bed. Kara's forced me to put on a robe. Really? These are not comfortable to me at all.
I love robes and these are really good ones.
And we have just ordered room service from my phone, which is one of my favorite features of this resort. There's an app, it has a bunch of cool stuff on it, but the main feature that we both care about is you can order room service directly from the app. So you just like scroll through the menu, pick out what you want, order it and then in 30 minutes it shows up at your room.
We are starting off super healthy. We have an egg white omelette toast, some tortillas, parfait, fruit, this super yummy looking green juice.
But this could get dangerous really quickly because guacamole and cheese quesadillas are on the 24 hour room service menu. This is vacation. So.
For me it is not a vacation unless I get several hours in the sunshine relaxing.
Luckily for Kara, there are several options.
The first option is what we've nicknamed the quiet pool because there's rarely anyone here.
See, it's super quiet.
And this is the giant main pool. It is not so quiet. This is where all the action happens. It is beautiful. There's a swim up bar.
There'S even a wave pool.
Come on in, the water's fine.
Watermelon.
Let's be lazy. Kara. There are five different resorts in this complex and we're staying at the nicest of the five, which means that we get access to all of the other ones, one of which includes a lazy river.
We get access to their resorts, but they don't get access to ours, which.
Sounds a little snobby, but it is true.
Not lazy enough for lazy rivers.
Faster.
We have places to be today. Restaurants to go to, beaches to lay.
On, buckles mole to eat, private pools to lay in, dinner reservations to make, bubble baths to take.
Oh, you still haven't done that.
I know. Tonight you should do that. Okay. Help me.
Oh, I hear bingo. Oh, six feet.
I didn't win. I love me a good pool, but nothing beats sitting next to the world's largest swimming pool with a toes in the sand.
How beautiful is this?
We try to keep lunch short and sweet to make the most of the sunshine. Let me just say there is a guacamole bar every day at the Buffet. And now I'm really regretting not working out today. This morning.
Worth it.
So, according to the app, afternoon activities include a bicycle tour, rifle shooting, beach volleyball, aquafit, pool games, a cooking class, archery, all kinds of stuff.
But since we are vacationing, we're supposed to be resting and rejuvenating, so we're getting a massage.
Fancy.
Why does an hour have to go by so fast? I love vacationing.
While you're on vacation, the hardest decision that you should have to make is, what do we eat for dinner tonight?
And they do not make it easy.
Here, there's a dinner buffet where you can indulge in way too much Mexican food, if there is such a thing. I don't think there is.
There's an Italian restaurant with Italian wine, an Italian chef, and of course, delicious Italian pasta.
Wow.
Gracias, margarito. He just poured hot lava chocolate on my chocolate volcano.
Could this night get any better? Yes. There's a French restaurant with one of the coolest appetizers I've ever seen.
There's even the option to have a super romantic dinner on the beach. Alone, together.
This is so lovely. I love the music, the sea breeze. No one's around.
This is so exciting.
Medium and medium low.
Typically, after dinner, this is how we spend our night.
But since we're on vacation.
Sam.
Please don't fall over. Please don't fall over.
My heart just stopped.
Ah.
Can I have some more coffee?
Do you want any breakfast first? Good morning. Oh, no. I spilled my coffee. I forgot it was full again. I don't want to say I told.
You so, but I did.
I don't have any food. I'm sorry.
These are our new friends.
How cute are they?
We still don't know their name, but they're like a mix between a raccoon and an anteater.
And they make this little squeak noise that is the cutest thing ever.
And they kind of have, like, a monkey tail. They're the coolest animals that I've ever seen.
Don't touch me. I'm scared of it.
I can't believe I got that close.
They're very skittish. And since we've been here, I've been trying to be really patient and see if only come to me.
Shark music, not alligator music.
I should not use this whole thing. But I'm going to.
Go to the gym tomorrow.
Okay, I'm ready.
