PLAYING LASER TAG IN AIRPLANES (winner gets $2,500)

YouTube vlog by Nate Buchanan (featuring Kara Buchanan) documenting a staged aerial laser-tag competition flown in aerobatic Extra 330 airplanes. The pair compete in three dogfight rounds using a proprietary optical targeting/laser system while their pilots (Tex and Lamb) perform intense aerobatic maneuvers (up to ±10G) and coach them. The winner awards $2,500 to their chosen charity (Kara: charity: water; Nate: Direct Relief). The video mixes safety briefing, G-force/tumble challenges, in-flight practice, and post-flight reactions.

Chapters
We are about to play laser tag in real airplanes. This Aerobatic Extra 330 behind me is equipped with a state of the art proprietary optical targeting system. Basically, fancy laser tag. Kara's gonna get in one airplane, I'm gonna get in the other, and we are going to attempt to shoot each other out of the sky.
And to up the stakes even more, the winner gets $2,500 to give to their favorite charity.
Nate had to do a lot of convincing to get me here today, but my new year's resolution is to be more generous this year. So when he told me that we could put charity money on the line, he finally convinced me. So if I win, the money's gonna go to charity water, which is giving millions of people access to clean water. But if Nate wins, it's gonna go to direct relief, which is helping with COVID 19 relief around the world. Either way, the money's going to a great cause, so hopefully this is all worth it.
All right, so Kara's the one that's nervous, but she's nervous that the plane's gonna fall out of the sky and she's gonna die. There's a very slim chance of.
Oh. Oh, my goodness. It looks like they're crashing.
I actually think I'm the one that should be more nervous because give myself like, a 50, 50 shot of throwing up in this airplane. But I have been eating Dramamine like candy, so hopefully not. Yeah, you got.
I nervously laughed my way through the safety briefing about how the planes work, how to jump out in case of an emergency, and some tips on dog fighting. All right. I don't know if I feel better or worse after that. Br.
This is actually crazy. I thought they were flying the plane and we were pulling the trigger. We're flying the plane and pulling the trigger. Oh, my gosh.
My whole body feels numb right now.
So if you guys are interested in a little bit of G force, these airplanes are capable of plus or minus 10G's. I used to fly F16s in the air force, which is amazing because they only pull 9G. So these airplanes are super maneuverable. But if you want to experience what a high G force feels like, we can show you fair warning, though. About 30, 40% of people will pass out at eight GS. So if you're not afraid to roll the dice and have a little fun, then we're happy to accommodate. You want to try it?
Nate, how do you feel about the jeep challenge?
Give me that camera. You guys are going to Roche on both for this, right?
Best out of three.
Rock, favorite scissors.
Okay. All right.
Best out of three.
We called it.
Rock, favorite, scissors. Shoot. Rock favor. Scissors, Shoot.
Oh, tied up.
The moment of truth.
Ready? Hold on.
Work it out, work it out, work it out.
Rock, favorite, scissors, shoot.
Drop.
Paper, scissors, shoot.
Drop.
Paper, scissors, shoot.
Yes.
Was not gonna pass out. It would be Kara. All right, so Lamb is Kara's pilot. Tex is my pilot who used to be an F16 fighter pilot. So I'm feeling pretty good about my odds right now.
I'm feeling pretty good. She used to fly crop duster. She doesn't know what the she's doing. You guys really think girls have a shot at shooting down the boys?
Oh, y' all don't have a chance.
Oh, my goodness. We've been trained for this biologically our entire life.
All right, talk.
Spring.
They're hunters. We're gathered.
All right.
Wow.
This is the sick bag.
That is the sick bag. Bonus points if everything goes in the bag.
Sweet.
That's the eject button.
Don't hit that by accident.
Sweet.
I'm just kidding.
I was like, that's really too bad. Any last words, Kara? I'm sorry. At this point, I'm nervous, and Kara didn't want to do this to begin with.
All right, we're on our way, brother.
How long are we going to be flying? Probably about, I don't know, 40 minutes. It'll be a while or until you say so.
There are a lot of crazy things that you can do in Las Vegas.
But this has to be one of the craziest.
You ready? I think so. All right. And away we go. Oh, yeah. Looks like we're in the lane. Yeah, Right where we're gonna stay. We're flying.
That took two seconds to get off the ground. And if you look off your left, you'll see. See your girl over there in the red airplane. And up we go. Oh, my gosh.
Oh, yeah.
Up. Out the way.
We haven't even got the party started yet. It only gets better from here, I promise.
All right, I'm gonna give this signal for them to rejoin on us, so they're gonna get close. Okay? Okay.
I can't believe I'm doing that. It's a riot right now. You're holding up. Looks like you're going a little slow, boys. Is there something wrong with your plane?
Your plane looks a little wobbly.
I don't think I'm very good at smack talking.
Before going into combat, our pilots took us through a series of intense aerobatic Maneuvers.
Hey, Sarah, have you ever tried that crossover thing?
I think I kind of remember how to do it.
All right, let's see what you got.
All right, hold on tight. You ready? All right.
I think Kara hated it.
Oh, no. I think I heard her screams from here. Hey, man, I'm standing right in the sun. I'm gonna try.
I think you boys can have some fun too.
Oh, my God. Yeah, that's what he said.
So how close am I supposed to get again? That's close enough.
What happens if we hit turbulence?
I think we'll figure it out.
I read about it in a book once.
I love flying back here, and it's beautiful. So beautiful.
Now that they had showed off their piloting skills and we didn't know which way was up, we went on what we thought would be a calm, scenic ride through the breathtaking Red Rock Canyon.
See this rock? This big rock in front of us? No. Where's that at? Oh. Holy.
We were wrong.
Real close. Close to those rocks, huh? Yep.
Where the heck did that come from?
Oh, my gosh. Right?
I thought this was a Take it easy through the red rock. Yeah, man. Did you enjoy the series?
All right, we'll come check out this rock.
Since I lost Rock, Paper, Scissors, it was now time for me to endure a maneuver they call the tumble, followed by the G log challenge.
Good luck, Kara.
All right, you ready to tumble? I think so. All right.
And it's tumble time.
There we go.
You're ready to tumble.
Again.
Wow. Wow. How you doing there? High G turn.
Oh, my goodness. Looks like they're crashing. Now they're diving down for the high G turn off the right side. There they go.
We're pulling about eight GS right there in the T lock. How'd you do?
She's still figuring that out right now.
Beautiful.
Oh, my gosh.
All right, ace four. Slow it down. One's gonna rejoin on you. We'll come back as a two tip initial. Yeah.
How you doing? That was unbelievable. I couldn't see anything for, like. I feel like it was like a min.
You than me, I'd be throwing up right now. All right, we're gonna do the gun warm up exercise. This is where we're gonna get you. A little practice shooting her down.
Now that they had pushed our limits and we were still conscious, it was officially time to try to shoot each other out of the sky and see which one of us would emerge victorious as the better fighter pilot. And believe it or not, they let us fly the plane.
All right, so go Ahead and get your hands up on the controls right now, Kara. Alright, guys, so go ahead and point them in that direction that I told you about earlier.
All right, so take a mental snapshot. That's where you want to keep her. Right there. Halfway at the. Slightly to the right. You've got the control. Try to keep her right in that position.
Now, obviously, we aren't actually shooting each other. These planes are equipped with invisible lasers. So the goal of the dogfight is to position ourselves behind the opponent's plane, pull the trigger, and shoot until their plane starts smoking.
That's what you're looking for.
Ace 4's been hit. The only kill your boys are gonna get today.
That was just practice.
Thought we were gonna have a lot more practice. I've now been on the control for 15 seconds.
That's all you need.
About to start fighting.
Setting you up for the fight.
Three, two, one. You got the control. Turn and burn. Go down. All right, Nice and smooth. Nice and smooth.
Oh, I see him. I see him. 3, 2, 1.
Pull back, pull back.
Ease off, Ease off.
Ease off. To pull your little air speed back. Ease off just a bit. Ease off. So get some air speed.
You got it. You got us. You got it. No, this is all you, girl.
All right.
Oh, he's behind us. Oh, no.
All right, now you got her. Pull and shoot.
Right there.
Hold the trigger.
He's got it.
Baby. I got the control. Nice job.
I shot her down and I didn't pass out, baby. That was crazy, ladies.
How did that feel?
I'm sorry I let you down. That was actually a really, really good fight to start off with.
All right, let's do it again. Round two. Let's see what you got. Let's go, Nate. Three, two, one. You got the controls.
Don't lose sight, everybody. You see her?
No.
My head got heavy. Let's go for a loop.
Go, Brill.
Oh, crap. Where'd she go? Oh, there she is. All right, break up.
Break.
Lift, break. Lift.
Break.
Oh, no.
Oh, no.
We've been hit.
You got him, girl. That was awesome. One to one.
I was worried more about not passing out than carachuting me that time. That was a mistake. My vision is gone. It was completely black the last two times. Round three.
Here goes.
Minimal coaching on this one. So we're just gonna let these two cats go at it? May the best one win.
All right. So, Kara, this is you against your husband. We're not gonna coach you guys very much. This is all you guys, so whatever.
You want to do.
Yep, it's all you want to do. He's off to your right hand side. You got him in sight. You got him? Tell me what. All right, it's one and advance is great.
It's go time.
Three, two, one. Go get him. Go get him. He's right there.
Go get her a. Go get her.
Keep your ball going. Better watch out. Come on, Nate. Got him inside. Go. I'm coming for you, baby.
Boom.
Are you all good? Yes, we're good.
He's right behind us. Go to his bathroom.
Well, ladies, there could be only one highlander. So sorry about that. What's up, Kat? You're awful quiet over there.
I can't believe I lost.
I don't know if I'm happy to not have to do that.
Wow.
How you feeling, buddy? A little nauseous, but victorious. Thanks. Hey, man, victory comes into play sometimes. Nice job. You're an animal. Why's your stomach. On a scale of one to five, five means you're puking, one means you're great. I'm probably at like a four. Okay. I'm gonna be nice and smooth. Thank you. You went hard, man. You were aggressive on those dog fights.
Have you used your barf bag yet?
No, but I have the barf bag in hand. Coming in the land, brother.
Nicely done, captain. Oh, my heart.
Feels good to be back on solid ground.
Good win.
Nice job, buddy.
I feel like we just left.
Victory.
He may not feel like a winner.
But he's like me.
Over.
Go check in on the girls, huh?
That was insane. Did we have a clear winner?
I'm still determining if he.
I told him victory comes at a price. Well done, ball and chain.
Oh, man.
Are you okay? I missed you.
So I'm guessing 10 out of 10.
Would do it again. Yeah.
An extra Dramamine tablet.
You're a little pale.
You can bump the.
No, no, no.
You look pale.
I look green. Am I the same color as this can?
Yeah.
I'm doing everything I can to settle my stomach, but it was worth it. $2,500. Going to the directory.
The money. That thing that we did earlier.
Do you need to sit down?
I feel like any second you look really pale.
I could fall over.
So never done aerobatics before, I take it?
Nope.
Never done aerial dog fighting?
Nope.
Ever seen a grown man naked? Ever been to a Turkish prison?
I've been to the YMCA locker room once or twice. So this is.
There's an old airplane quote. You know it, right?
Pretty proud of myself, I'm not going to lie.
That was so crazy guy was nuts, Nick.
We had full control of the. Of a plane.
Cara, that thing you did where you fell out of the sky.
Where you fell out of the sky.
I did.
I wonder if anybody's ever passed out after the flight. I was not cut out to be a fighter pilot or an astronaut or to ride roller coasters.
Okay. I missed you.
So I'm guessing 10 out of 10 would do it again.
