Are you recording? Yeah. Are you sure? Yeah. Do I need to check it?
No, you can't.
We need to do this quick before the sun goes down.
Yep. So the next three months are going to be jam packed with adventure. So we thought we'd take one of our last opportunities to relax on the beach. And since that's not very much fun to watch, we thought we'd take today to do a Q and A.
So many of you asked so many good questions, so thank you for sending them in, but there's. There's too many. We're not gonna be able to answer them all, but it was hard to choose which one. So if we don't answer your question, we might do a part two. Because there are so many good ones, I put them all in one spot on my phone. We're gonna start with the questions that our patrons asked. So the first one is from Gina. She said she is obsessed with straight teeth. How do you guys keep your teeth so white given that you seem to drink a lot of coffee? We do drink way too much coffee. That is a question we get asked in the YouTube comment section all the time, and it just cracks me up. Cause, I don't know.
Thank you for the compliment.
That's very nice.
But we've never answered the question before because, like, we've never really taken it seriously because we have no special formula for keeping our teeth white. I guess we're blessed with good genes. Good genes.
We usually use crests like. Oh, hold on, hold on.
This is my current toothpaste. This is, like, crest whitening. But normally we just end up buying, like, a random toothpaste from a random country. And this is what my toothbrush looks like. I never thought I'd be showing my toothbrush to the Internet. So we brush our teeth twice a day in the morning and at night a lot of times.
One more time, though.
Twice a day. Bob asks, can you explain a bit more the division of labor when it comes to creating the blogs?
Nate holds the camera the whole time during the day, and then I do the editing.
I have not touched Premiere Pro since January of 2016.
While I edit, Nate does all the travel planning. So it's a good balance.
Yeah. Oh, I will. I do have, like, a little input on the editing, though. So, like, after she gets done editing and putting it together, we always watch the vlog together and do final edits. Normally that's me cutting out stuff that I think is boring or stupid.
Yeah. Which is a lot. He also asked, how often do you make meals at home versus going out to eat. And how tough do you find it to cook when you're on the road? So this is a funny question. Many people were mad at us for not putting what we made for dinner in the vlog. The other night we went to the store and got stuff to make here because we're still spending more than normal on this Airbnb. So we said that we were going to cook more than we usually do. So to answer your question, I took pictures of our lunch today.
We had soup with rice.
We've got a couple go tos. We like to mix soup and rice together because it's super easy and hearty. And we eat avocado and tomato sandwiches when we can find avocados. They're kind of like our new peanut butter and jelly.
Seriously. So before we started traveling, we never went out to eat. We just always cooked at home because I really enjoyed cooking once we got married because I'd never cooked before.
She's a good cook.
And when we started traveling, we got in the habit of going out to eat because it's just really inconvenient to cook a lot of the time.
Well. And it's exciting. Like it's a travel experience to go out to eat.
Yeah. And we started in Asia where going out to eat is really cheap. So we just got in this habit of going out to eat for every meal. So now cooking is like a treat and going out is normal. It's like totally flipped. We just really crave simple things like soup and sandwiches. We get so excited.
Well, and when you show up to an Airbnb, you can't really cook like an extravagant meal. Otherwise you'd be spending a ton of money on like spices at the store that you just have to throw away when you left.
Yeah. Jim asked, any new favorite food so far from South America?
Yes. Out of doubt.
Cherry bananas.
I've really enjoyed.
Cherry pond was good. So are empanadas.
I think these might be, but I.
Think Jim, I think these two are.
But I. Do you want to look? Go look real quick. We'll be back. There's some confusion with the questions. Okay. Hey, will you turn this light out before you come? I think it's going to make us look nasty.
Perfect. Jim also requested that we show the picture of me with a giant afro one more time. So here you go, Jim. Alright, on to the next question.
I miss those days. James said, how do you select your Airbnb's while on the road? Is it like a last minute snap decision or do you really plan it out?
Funny you should ask. I try to be a little more planned ahead than what we are currently. But as of this morning, we had no earthly idea where we were going. And a few minutes ago, I booked a flight to Santiago in Chile, and I still have not booked the Airbnb that we'll be staying in tomorrow night. We have tons of questions about Airbnb, because that's pretty much exclusively what we've been using for accommodations for, like, the last six months. So I think what we'll do is save those questions, and we'll just do one big Airbnb Q and A. Lisa.
Wants to know what street food we can recommend in Vietnam.
I've got three.
I don't even know where to start.
So pho. Pho will be everywhere.
Yes.
So you have to eat pho. But then there's another version of pho that we didn't know about. We didn't read about it in any of the guidebooks, and we had some friends who lived in Da Nang.
Can you hear what's happening? There are these vans. I guess it's like advertising. They have huge speakers on the top of them.
Okay, so back to the fuzz house.
It's still there. What, did it park outside of our place?
It always does.
It's literally done that every day.
I thought they just drove.
No, they sit there for a minute so you can hear the whole fuss out. It's pho, but it's fried, so it's not like a soup. It's more of, like, fried noodles. It is so good.
I've been thinking about this dish since we ate it last time.
It's delicious. And banh mi sandwiches.
Yeah.
Let us know how the best sandwich in Hanoi is.
This is like a party in a bun.
Banh mi sandwiches are the best, especially. Especially after you've been traveling through Asia for an extended period of time. Just a regular sandwich is amazing.
Yeah. It's getting dark. We need to hurry.
So this next question is gonna seem like a shameless plug, but it's really not. We get asked about it a lot, so we thought we should answer it. So a long time ago, back when we were in Thailand, we had this great idea that we were gonna do a postcard giveaway in every country that we went to, and a lot of people wanna know why we're not doing it anymore. Sorry.
We never explained.
And that's because we created a Patreon account, and now our patrons are the ones who get the postcards. So that's what happened to that idea?
Sorry. Okay. Colin says, obviously at this point you've picked up some words from various languages, but how many different languages did you know or speak before starting the traveling? The answer is very little Spanish. And that's all.
We feel extremely ignorant when we travel to other parts of the world because it seems like everybody, except for Americans know at least two to like five languages.
And we don't know anything if you're.
An American and you know more than one language. Sorry to insult you, but I feel like statistically most Americans only know English.
But we're really excited because we both took Spanish and since we're in South America, we have been brushing up with Duolingo.
It's a really fun app.
It's so much fun. And we're both practicing every day, so hopefully by the time we leave South America, we'll have much better Spanish.
Also, I think the biggest takeaway from that question should be that not speaking a language shouldn't hold you back from traveling to a destination. Because we've now been to over 45 countries and we've made it perfectly fine without speaking the language in the majority of those countries.
Gwenlian, sorry if that is so wrong. Oh, somebody's at the door.
Speaking of Airbnb, our host is at the door. There seems to be a lot of confusion.
I think she told me there's a car straight from here. That conversation just confirmed how little Spanish we know.
I'm pretty sure.
I'm feeling pretty confident.
She said that she's gonna be here at 4:30 in the morning to get the key.
Okay, what are we talking about?
Questions? Oh, we were gonna talk about adventures, plans.
Did we read that question yet?
No.
Oh, yeah. Gwen, Lian, what activities are you looking forward to doing this year? Such as bucket list items? We have a bunch coming up.
We have like five really big adventures planned in South America. Six if you count what we booked this morning. But I'm not going to ruin that surprise yet. But like, the big five things that we're doing while we're here include going to Patagonia, going to the Salt Flats in Bolivia, taking a seven day cruise to the Galapagos Islands.
Trekking to Machu Picchu on the Lodge to Lodge trek, and then we're going on a cruise down the Amazon river in Peru. And it's gonna be amazing.
Hence why we took another beach day, because it's gonna be crazy. How have your vlogs changed since you decided to extend your traveling?
I don't know that, like Our vlogs have changed too much, but I feel like our hair. I feel like our mindset of traveling has changed a lot. Like, we say we took a beach day today, but really we went to the beach for. For a couple hours, and then we spent the rest of the day working.
Behind our computer, mostly because we'll get sunburnt if we stay out any longer. The sun here is insane.
So it's more like our jobs now and less like we just took the year off to go travel. With that being said, we feel like we have the greatest jobs in the world for sure, and we love every second of it.
We definitely invest more time in our YouTube channel than we did last year. Like, the first half of last year, we were just trying to, you know, see and do as much as possible. But now that this is, like, our life, like, we can't just constantly be doing that, or we would get super behind on our YouTube channel, and then we'd have to go home and we'd.
Run out of money.
Yes.
Which country has the best coffee?
That's a great question. I don't think I could single out a single country that has really good coffee, but I definitely have some top coffee experiences. One of them definitely being in Chiang Mai, Thailand. We went to this coffee shop. We actually went to it because our favorite coffee shop was closed. I was really mad. And we get there and there's this super adorable old. How cute is this little coffee farmer delivering the beans from his farm, putting them in the roaster right in front of us. Mountain coffee. Mountain coffee. Okay.
So cool. And it was a really great experience. And, of course, delicious. Alvinfred said, how do you book your airline tickets?
So normally we either use Momondo Skyscanner or we use our frequent flyer miles. Today was a little different. I booked our tickets for tomorrow today, and I was about to book them through Momondo, and then I went directly to the airlines website just to check on a couple things and ended up the tickets on the airline's website were $100 cheaper than what it was going to cost me to book through Momondo. So I'm a lot more hesitant to book through Momondo these days. Who knew?
He also asked if we've gone into places and had someone recognize us before or ask for a photograph. And how does that feel? It doesn't happen often. But the craziest time that that happened, we were sitting at a cafe on the side of the road in Bosnia, and one of our subscribers walked by and said that she recognized us and wanted to chat and introduce herself. And of course I was freaking out, but she was from the US Living in London and just happened to be in Bosnia. So that was just like the craziest one for sure. Our camera just turned off because it's been recording for 29 minutes, which means we need to hurry it up. Sarah wants to know some tips for handling long flavor flights. A lot of long flights. We don't even need any tips.
You just eat the food, you watch the movie, try to sleep a little bit. If you can't, you just watch more movies.
I always have a vlog to work on which I don't need Internet and so I'm always really excited to be able to just sit down and not have any distractions and edit.
Yeah. Do we have anything that we, like, do for long flights?
Okay. It's getting dark as you can see.
There's more.
I'm pretty sure this is going to be way too long anyway, so we're going to end this here. We'll try to do around two sometime in the near future.
I'm sorry if you didn't get a chance to ask a question. You can leave a comment on this video and we'll go back to our old Q and A videos and look at the questions and try to answer them in our next one along with the other ones that we didn't have time to answer.
Well, I've got a good idea. If you like somebody's question that they leave in the comment, thumbs up it. The ones with the most thumbs up is what we'll answer in our next video.
That is a great idea. You're brilliant. Okay. I hope you can still see us.
See you tomorrow. We will be up bright and early at 4:30am when I think the lady is coming to get the key.
I won't be this happy.
Sam.
