ROME TO PARADISE | Train to the Italian Countryside!

This is a YouTube travel vlog by Kara and Nate Buchanan documenting their trip from Rome into the Italian countryside to visit Patreon supporters Bob and Gina at their small vineyard. The transcript covers their rushed departure from Rome, train transfers (a ~4-hour regional ride plus a ~1-hour connection), arrival at the hosts' home, a tour of the vineyard/house, and a communal dinner at the local cantina highlighting local food and wine. The video emphasizes the beauty of the countryside, the hospitality of Bob and Gina, and the contrast between tourist Rome and life as locals.

We are super sad that today is our last day in Rome. We're heading to the train station, but we're not leaving Italy yet.
We are really excited about where we're going next. We are getting out of the big city and heading into the countryside. But we're running late right now, so we'll tell you about that later.
First stop, the Italia Rail lounge.
This may be the world's longest escalator.
Hey. Hello.
How are you?
Good, how are you? Hi.
Nice to see you again.
Hi.
Did you have a good time?
It was the best time.
Quick stop in the Italia Pass lounge. Unfortunately, we didn't have much time to spend there because we only got to the train station about 20 minutes early. And our train leaves from, like, the other side of the station. Also learned one interesting thing, and it's that you don't actually have to purchase the entire Italia Pass to get access to the lounge. If you're here and you want to get in, you just pay €19. So, like, I don't know if you have a. Do people have layovers in train stations? So if you have a layover in the train station, you can just pay to get in. Are you running.
Here?
Why are you running? You have everyone else's.
This is crazy. Yeah. You know what car we're in? Do you see a carriage number?
Can we just get on?
Keep moving fast.
Let's just go ahead and get on.
These all size six?
Six? They do.
I mean, these all say two.
Well, let's just get on.
We have no idea if we're in the right train, but we're just gonna go until somebody tells us to move.
So we were walking to the train.
We had like five minutes.
I don't exactly know how early you're supposed to be for a train, but then all of a sudden, everybody just started sprinting for. So we just followed suit, jumped on the first car we came to to make sure the train didn't leave us, and then worked our way through all the cars trying to figure out where we were supposed to sit. We never understand these trains. So we just kind of picked some seats and we'll probably get told to move like we usually do.
But now I'm all hot and sweaty.
Nobody's told us to leave yet.
Really Hope they don't. We sat down about two minutes ago. So I guess we did almost miss the train. They are prompt. We have about a 4 hour TR ride until our next stop. And then we have one more one hour train ride until our final destination. We should be There around five.
So now that we're not late in rushing, we can explain why we are going to a part of Italy that we've never even heard before. So two very special people who support our YouTube channel on Patreon have invited us to their home on a vineyard on the countryside of Italy.
So back in like December, Bob and Gina contacted us and they were like, hey, we live on a small vineyard in the countryside of Italy and if you ever want to come visit, you have like an open invitation. Just tell us when you want to come. So ever since that moment, I've been trying to figure out when we can get back to Italy to go visit them, obviously. And it's finally happening. So we're super excited to be spending five days with them and just seeing what it's like to live as a local in the countryside of Italy and just like not do the tourist thing but just like, let's see, see what life's like because they're, they're actually from.
The US they're so swee for inviting us to stay with them. And I can't wait to meet him in real life.
They've just, they moved here five years ago and they've just set up a life here in Italy and we're excited to get to experience a small piece of it. We are now arriving at.
Final destination of this journey.
This is us.
We have eight minutes to make our connecting train.
We're not very good at train stations.
Where are we going?
15:45 I think s Benedetto del Toronto.
Yeah, this is the right station, right?
At 15. What time is it right now?
35.
1535.
Yeah. No, 1335.
It says hours 1653.
Train regionale 7013.
Oh, there it is. 7013. That says. Okay, we need to go to T. Okay, show it this way.
We made it with plenty of time to spare. The only confusing part is that the name of the city that we're going to was not the name. That's on like the board thing that tells you what time you leave. We ask a nice man in an official looking uniform and he told us we were in the right place.
We also forgot to bring any food. We haven't eaten all day.
It's 3:45.
We don't have any change to get somebody out of a little change machine or snack machine.
I meant to get like a Sam size package of Snickers to bring for Carol. Just didn't plan that very well. You're doing well though for like not eating till 245.
It is. 5:30. We just made it to.
What is it?
How are you, man? It's so good to see you.
I can't believe we're here. Hi.
How you guys doing?
Great. Good. Why are we.
No, no, no. That's totally standard.
We found Baba Gina and we're starting with gelato. He's off to a.
Wow.
Is that your oven?
Or you can make the tractor.
They're already ready for us.
We are officially at Bubba Tina's house. Do you just wake up every day and just. Yeah, we'll try. We'll try.
It's mostly the afternoon. I make everyone stop at sunset and watch the sunset because it's really, really beautiful. And it's remarkable when you have the time to do it every day that you notice throughout the year where it's setting.
And that's actually kind of cool. Hi.
This is so awesome.
And the original house was this size. We could only build on the original footprint, so we asked them to put in a basement.
This is amazing.
Thank you. Is this. Is it happening right now?
Yeah.
Well, there's red wine in this. Yeah.
The only thing right now is some.
Red wine in there.
I just took it out of the barrel, the little wooden barrel. The barrels are usually about twice as big as this, but we couldn't fit through the door. Fit a normal sized barrel through the door. This is just settling. Like, the last of the gunk will settle to the bottom and then we'll put it in bottles.
How do you bottle?
You can imagine this filled up and you put that in there and then you just. This thing closes and squeezes the cork and then put it down.
And then you have a.
That is so cool.
And you just do that a few hundred times.
Yeah.
So we are at Bob and Gina's house, and it is like a dream. I seriously can't believe how beautiful it is. They built this house on this hill overlooking all of this Italian countryside and vineyards and just, like, hills and little towns, like, in the distance. And the sun is setting.
They sent us a few pictures before we came, but, like, pictures just cannot do this place justice.
It's so beautiful.
It's seriously one of the prettiest places that I've ever been in my entire life. And we're here at, like, the perfect time. The sun is setting.
There's, like, no one around.
It's. It's awesome. So now they're taking us to dinner at the local co op, which I'm pretty sure is where everybody takes their grapes. And then they, like, make all of the wine in one place. They said the lady there is a really good cook. So I'm really excited. What else? Do you get to go to, like, a local co op for dinner? It's so good.
This is awesome. Buon Sierra.
So we are here at the perfect time. We are at this place, the cantina. It's like a winery, and it's where Bob and Gina bring their grapes. And for this month only on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Thursdays and Fridays, they have this meal with all of this local food. Everything they said is from, like, a 25 mile radius. So we're starting with some bread that has been rising for 72 hours. And we got this cute little plate with some stuffed olives, some fried cheese, salami and cheese, and it's so cute. We're sitting outside watching the sunset. I'm so excited. Cheers, guys. Cheers.
You guys, thank you so much for.
Coming.
Thank you for having me.
I train for you too.
All right, well, Nate's already figured out.
Did you miss us?
All the cats are coming out the window.
Yeah, and mixed with Sangiovese, right?
Oh, oh.
Don'T worry.
It's very.
Keep calm.
Okay.
This is Pecorino.
Maybe.
Maybe we'll just move in. What do you think, Bob and Gina? We'll help with the vineyard and stuff.
The vlog may end forever. We may just stay here and never leave.
