Rain. Rain, go away.
Good morning from Cappadocia. Day two. Today we got up pretty much at the same time as yesterday, but to see the hot air balloons from the ground this time. And it was almost just as magical.
Except it's very cloudy this morning. It's actually raining right now. But it's our last day here, so we're going to try to make the most of it.
We figured while we were up and breakfast isn't being served at our hotel yet, we would go ahead and go do our excursion today before all the tourists get there.
Sam.
This is not good. I'm pretty sure that I just ran the drone into a rock.
Got a little too confident. Oh, I have no clue where it went. I think. I think I know which rock I hit. I think I hit that one.
That was. That was really dumb. What?
It doesn't say disconnected anymore. It just says GPS mode.
Can you see the screen?
No, it just says weak signal.
Dang it. Oh, crap.
I found it. It's completely shattered.
The entire camera is just ripped straight off the face of it.
That's the camera.
Home point is updated. At least we could have found it. Bright side is we can get the footage. Like it could have been on top of one of these rocks and we.
Never would have been able to get it.
How did it happen?
I was flying and I thought it'd be cool if like this rock came in front of the screen and I thought that it was. I thought the drone was behind it and I guess I just ran it straight into the side of the rock. Oh, I'm so. Oh, okay. Even found the other part of the propeller.
That was a bummer of a way to start the morning. I'm trying to, like, not let it bother me and just enjoy this day that we have here in Cappadocia. But at the same time, the further away that I get from it, the more it's like sinking in that. That was a thousand dollar mistake. That was just like so dumb on my part and easily avoidable. But again, it's our. It's our last day here, so try to get over it. It's not easy. Hurts right here. Feel like I need to dig a little grave for it. Give it a proper ceremony. It's been a good drone for the past two. Two years.
Sam.
Please pass.
We just bought tickets to an open air museum, which is basically just a really cool part of Cappadocia that they've sectioned off. Where in the 10th century, the persecuted Christians during the Roman Times came and kind of sought refuge. So they built all these caves into these rocks, and some of them are really well preserved with paintings. There are all these living spaces, and we got here right when it opened, so I think we're the only ones here.
Wow.
Church is huge. My favorite thing about these caves is on the outside. They're so unassuming. Like, it's just a rock face, and you come inside and there's these beautiful domes with these paintings that look like they were just done.
So cool.
First tour group is here.
Here the buses come. Drone drama aside, that place was really cool, and I'm so glad that we went early in the morning. We had heard that all the tour groups show up around 9 o', clock, so we went at 8, as soon as it opened, and we were pretty much the only ones there. Sure enough, at 9 o', clock, tons of tour groups came rolling in. All right, we're going back to get some breakfast and coffee.
We have not had breakfast yet or coffee.
And we're both functioning.
Yes, actually, I drank our last powdered coffee in our room.
All right, let's go.
We spent the rest of the morning getting some work done, including booking our accommodations for tonight. I don't think we've mentioned that today is a travel day, but we're not leaving till 8 o', clock, so we're.
Going to make the most of the afternoon. We're going to do a little hiking. We picked up some lunch for a picnic. So we're on a hunt for a good spot.
So fun. And it's beautiful now. Not raining anymore.
There are some very big gray clouds behind us. The weather has been nuts since we've been here. Like, one minute it's sunny, the next minute it's raining. You never know.
The problem with this hike is all of the trails are sand and they're really difficult.
I just cannot get over how amazing this place is. You just walk right outside your hotel room, and then you are on one of the best hikes of your entire life.
It's a bit slick.
This is weird. It's like the higher up we go, the more signs of life we see. Like, there's like, wiring and trash. I feel like we're about to, like, walk in on a hermit. What do you think? Should we climb the ladder? You can tell where somebody lived here at some point because the entire top of the roof is black. Where somebody had a fire in there. Right? Here we go. What else could go wrong today that's so rotten and dead?
Use the rocks. Maybe yeah.
Oh, that. No, not too sturdy.
Whoa.
This was definitely somebody's house. There's just a ton of.
Snakes. Come on. There were totally some homeless people living up there. It just looked like this. These abandoned caves that I guess they had made their. Made their home. And I walked right into it, right into their home. So much for our romantic lunch alone in a cave.
All the good caves are taken.
She started singing now to make us go away.
What do you think? Good lunch spot. I love it. Wow.
This is perfect.
All right, now let's eat.
This is probably a first and a last lunch inside of a thousand year old cave church. Also, this chicken sandwich is delicious.
All right, let the hike continue.
Think you can do it? Look for rocks to step on. Don't fall off that way. Fall that way. No.
You gotta commit. You gotta commit.
It's not like that.
This isn't good. It's starting to rain and we are in the middle of nowhere.
And not exactly sure how to get back.
It's still raining a bit, but it's manageable at the moment. I think this area that we're in right now is called either the Red Valley or the Rose Valley. And it is without a doubt one of the most beautiful places I've ever been in my entire life.
So the way this place was formed, I think there were some volcanoes and it made like a layer of ash over the city. And then it formed these really soft.
Rocks what also floats in water. Very small rocks.
And then the wind and erosion happened and it made them all look like this. And the rocks are still really soft. So that's how people can carve them out and make caves. They also make these little holes and the sides of them all like you see them everywhere. They're called pigeonholes. It's because this land isn't very fertile and they let the pigeons go in there and then they collect the poop and use it as fertilizer.
I did not know you knew that much. There you go. Kara the geologist. Okay, it's starting to rain harder.
Oh yeah, it's really raining now. Also. Sounds like any second we could get struck by lightning.
There's no Indian Ellis on the trail.
We don't really know where we are. We're just out in the middle of some beautiful scenery. We need a cave. Okay. It's like really raining. We're. Put the camera away.
It's still raining. Still haven't found a cave. But we did find a rock to shelter ourselves under and we're lost. I think we're like properly lost. I think we're supposed to be, like, on the other side of this valley.
There's no one around.
We have just walked ourselves into the middle of nowhere.
Oh, we don't miss our flight.
Get me out of here. Help.
We still have two hours till we're supposed to be back to catch the shuttle to go to the airport, so we should be okay. We're just gonna try to wait out the rain.
Still getting rained on.
I feel like if we go back the way we came, we know exactly where to go and we know how long it's to take.
That would be admitting defeat, though.
Are you serious? You don't feel defeated right now? No one is around.
I think it's raining harder.
I'm going to cry.
Oh, I just know it's running now. It's in my boxers now.
Go.
It's coming back. Oh, my gosh. It is so cold.
Is that funny?
I don't know. Might be really annoying.
Where did these camels come from?
Oh, my gosh.
What's up, guys?
We're probably, like, the weirdest people who've ever come here.
They sure do spend a lot of time on their computers. We are definitely walking across graves right now. Whoa.
Better do this gracefully. Graceful for this shot.
For all we know, that could be a full day trek to get back to the main road.
Quit.
