Nate and Kara Buchanan leave the Sahara after four days with guides Rasheed and Abdul, driving 400 kilometers back to Marrakesh. They cross a former lake bed, spot a mirage, collect fossils, and visit a village famous for tapestries before a grueling 10-hour drive home.

Sad to be leaving this place.
I will miss you.
Me too. Miss you.
Bye.
Today is our last day in the desert camp. It's also the last day of our trip. We just had to say bye to Rasheed. Now it's just us and Abdul going back to Marrakesh.
I'm so sad to be leaving this camp. It was so much better than I ever could have imagined living in a desert would be. I took a hot shower this morning. That was so good. So now we have a 400 kilometer drive back to Marrakech, but hopefully we can stop at a few interesting places again.
This is nice. So we've gotten to this huge flat part of the desert. And off to the distance, it looks like there's water surrounding this entire area. This is the craziest looking thing I've ever seen.
But it's not water, it's a mirage.
Yeah. So this huge flat area used to be a lake until they built a dam somewhere and it dried up the lake. There used to be birds and fish. Now it's just this big crazy looking thing.
Here are my shot.
I'm not positive, but I think you can see the mirage in the camera. If that looks like an island that's in water, it's not. It's just flat. Like as far as I can see on all sides.
We can find fossils here?
Yes. If you want, you can take some piece.
Small piece.
Not the big one.
Dill. That's a fossil. Another fossil. More fossils. Oh, here's some in this rock. They're everywhere.
I found four that I really like. You have to pick one.
I have three.
There are fossils everywhere here. As a kid, this would have been like my dream come true. And Kara says with how long I've been looking, she wonders if it's my dream when I was a kid or my dream now. Sorry we took so long.
No problem. Take time.
I found some good ones though, in the desert.
No, no time.
What do you think?
Very nice.
I have no clue how you know where to go out here. We have stopped to get a toothbrush. Why do you use this tree for?
For clean teeth. And also for doing the medicine for Ostomac. How is it we're saying this plant named ATIL now?
Atil At.
I kind of like it.
Oh, they looking wider.
Just a little bit.
Back on the road. Goodbye. That was so cute.
Little bumpy.
We just stopped at a little village that's famous for making tapestries. And so we're gonna go see how they make rugs.
So I got to attempt to make part of a rug with the old lady who was in there making the rugs. It takes her like two or three months to do one. They're so beautiful. But it was very difficult. But she did not want to be on camera. So we're going to respect her wishes and not put her on the Internet. And you'll just have to take my word for it.
We are back in Marrakesh. I think I prefer the sand dunes over the city.
I'm so sad.
See you later. Thanks for everything. Been awesome. Good luck for you too.
Thank you.
Thank you. And come to the desert. Welcome, everybody. Thank you, friend. Thank you.
Thank you.
We're back.
Hello, Simone.
How are you?
Good, how are you?
We're back home, back from the desert. It is just past 8 o' clock, which means that we spent 10 hours in the car today, which was a really long drive. But the scenery was beautiful and it was totally worth the long drive going out into the part of the desert where there weren't any tourists.
I feel like most of the time when we finish an adventure or something like this, I feel good about marking off my list. But I'm still sad it's over. But I'm excited that we did it. And this is one of those things that now that it's over, I'm super sad and I already can't wait to go back. Normally I don't feel like I need to do it again, but like, I have to go back.
She teared up a little bit when we said bye to. I did.
I'm so sad. They just so exceeded my expectations. I did not know how much fun it was gonna be. It was amazing.
We were like treated like family for the past four days. And now we are going to grab a quick dinner before we call it a night.
So every day that we are in Marrakesh, before we left we had this stuff. I like to describe it as if Naan and Chapati had a love child, it would be this stuff. They grill it and it is the best bread.
I've ever had.
And with this we are calling it a night.
Oh no, look at the car.
Your car is leaving. We're going to be stranded in the desert. The car's literally rolling away.
Is it a self driving car.
Run?
He just wanted to get his workout in today. There's never a dull moment with Abdul.
Abdul. Is this too big?
This is the one I want to take with me.
