Travel vlog by Nate Buchanan and Kara documenting a day in Kathmandu near the end of their trip. They spend the morning at Pumpernickel cafe, eat a large fried lunch (momos, samosas, fries) — portions cost very little — share leftovers with a local woman, note the monsoon has ended, and attempt evening bazaar shopping for gifts (rings, Ray-Bans, yak blankets, baby items) before flying home to Tennessee the next day. They also reschedule a planned visit to an open-air crematorium for the following morning.
Questions this video answers

You probably recognize the coffee pot by this point, but once again, we spent the morning at pumpernickel.
Namaste.
I think that was the fourth day in a row we've spent the first half of the day at pumpernickel. They're starting to recognize that and giggle when we walk in. Got some work done putting out the vlog, and now it's time for lunch.
No.
I'm really sad.
What happened? Been looking forward to this for days.
And closed down our Indian shop.
What do we do?
This guy told us that the family that owns the restaurant went on vacation.
To Pokhara, which is fine.
You can't just do that to us.
We're gonna try again tomorrow. He said they might be back tomorrow.
Hopefully they'll be back. It's our last chance.
I don't even want lunch anymore. Nothing's gonna be as good as the naan.
Momos and french crust.
Momos and french fries might be as good as the non fiercasti.
Momos and french. Guys, we'll do two veggie momo. Yeah, two. And one samosa.
We accidentally just got the most unhealthy lunch in the world. They were steamed, but they're fried. Momo. Just to clarify, momos are basically like a dumpling. Like a stuffed dumpling. And these are fried, and they're gonna be amazing. We got some french fries, mountain o, and two samosas. And a bunch of sauce that I don't know what it is except my ketchup. And everything on this table costs less than $10, including our drinks. All right, Nate, what are we gonna eat first?
This is way too much food.
Good thing we're hungry. We got salad last night.
We haven't had a momo since we were on the trail. We were a little bit momo'd out, but up to the point where I'm looking forward to.
Oh, hot.
Did you dip it in the special sauce?
Nope.
What's it like?
It's like a fried dumpling with veggie curry in the middle.
Sounds fantastic. French fries.
Pretty much better than maca's. Also, check out these bowls. They're so well made out of leave.
How cool is that?
Whoa, baby.
Got some mushy curry potatoes in there. The outside is super flaky.
I feel like I need to justify this entire incredibly unhealthy lunch we came from. Momo's French fries sounded fantastic, so we added those, and at the last second, us all samosas were only 60 cents, so we got two of those. So we could try it.
We didn't get anywhere close to finishing.
So we're gonna try to make someone stay by bringing them lunch.
Once again, every time we have extra food.
Everyone in need disappears.
After walking in circles and seeing no one saw a very nice looking lady laying on the ground and she smiled and told me hello. And I said, do you want some momos? And she said yes.
She was very happy to have the momos.
The monsoon is finally over. We were gonna go to an open air crematorium this afternoon but instead we're gonna have to reschedule for tomorrow morning.
So tonight we're gonna go to this bazaar that a 14 minute walk away and do some shopping because we're going home tomorrow. Like home home. Crazy Tennessee in the United States. And we have things to get like baby presents and wedding presents and just stuff because it's cheap.
Think people kind of expect stuff when you've been gone for five months.
We haven't bought you anything. We didn't want to carry it. But first, all our gifts are coming from Nepal.
Coff.
Now we can shop.
Madness right now.
Remember that monsoon we had this afternoon? This is what all of the streets look like. It's getting dark. I'm not going to say we're lost but I will say I don't know exactly where we are. As the protector in the relationship, I'm making the call that we're going back. No clue if this area town is safe at night or not. Sorry.
We can shop in tomorrow. It's fine.
Shop in tomorrow and then come back to the bazaar tomorrow if we have time. Cheers.
We decided we needed dinner first.
We needed something a little healthier after our deep fried lunch today.
Some kind of veggies?
No. Hummus? No clue. No clue. Falafel? No clue. No clue. They'll have no clue what half of it was, but it was delicious. The shopping has begun. Kara, what have you purchased so far?
Got a ring for my sister and I got some ray bans for my brother.
Such a good thing.
I won't lose Nate anymore.
Bringing back so many memories of the trail.
I've had my on a yak bell since we were on the trail. Go. Perfect. In my parents house. Yay. Okay.
A lot has happened in the last few minutes. We've been doing a lot bargaining. Apparently when it gets super late, their price is just plummet. So it's been super fun. How cute is this tiny little vet? We're doing some baby shopping because when else can you buy name brand stuff for babies and not feel guilty that they're gonna grow out of it in, like, a month. This is so much fun. And we got some yaki blankets.
Look at the cutest baby in the world I just found.
