SLEEPING IN A $20,000 PER NIGHT NEW YORK PENTHOUSE

Nate and Kara Buchanan spend 24 hours in a $25,000-per-night New York penthouse with a 1,300 sq ft patio overlooking the Chrysler Building. They try cryotherapy at minus 220 degrees and reflect on how far they've come from their backpacking days. The couple recently climbed 29,000 feet in 25 hours, Everest height.

A portion of this video is sponsored by the Motley Fool. Good morning. Is it possible to get bagels and cream cheese delivered to the penthouse?
Our life is absolutely crazy. This $25,000 per night penthouse is going to be our home for the next 24 hours.
The toilet knows I'm in here.
This is the hotel that presidents stay in when they come to New York City. And this is the nicest, most expensive room in the entire building.
Also, this area that I'm standing in right now, not a common area. This is our private 1300 square foot balcony.
If you missed our last video, we just completed the hardest physical challenge of our entire lives.
That was so hard.
We climbed 29,000ft, the height of Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world, in 25 hours without stopping together every step of the way. We still have a few hours until we check into our hotel room. And the concierge has helped us book an appointment at one of the most unique and extreme recovery therapies in the entire city. This is the most Casey Neistat moment of my entire life.
I'm so nervous about this.
Okay, here we go. After you, my lady. I'm eating it right now.
Yes.
Okay. I'm scared. It looks like a coffin.
It's liquid nitrogen vapor. We're at minus 220 degrees Fahrenheit.
Basically, your body is experiencing a simulated fight or flight response. So you're getting a lot of oxygen in your bloodstream in three minutes. And your body will not be sore if that's what you're experiencing right now.
Oh, yes. I just climbed the height of Mount Everest in 25 hours.
I'm sorry, what?
They look.
You done?
They're still there.
Like, everything's just kind of like, tingling. Are you nervous?
Yeah, I'm nervous.
Goodbye.
I feel like I'm in a witch's brew. Oh, wow. You handle this really well, Cass.
Wow. I feel like if I went like this, my hair would just break off my arms.
I think my legs actually feel better.
I'm not sure how they feel. I can't. Are you still doing anything?
Do you think we're the first people to ever eat 99 cent pizza before checking into the penthouse? Gotta be. But, you know, sometimes price and quality aren't correlated.
Hello. We're here to check into the Vanderbilt. Oh, shit. I got the golden ticket. Our room has its own button on the elevator tent house.
Are you ready?
Let's go. Look at everything.
Oh. Please remove your shoes, sir, in my penthouse.
Cheers to you.
To ever see.
If you're new here, this amount of luxury is not at all what we're used to. When we started this channel six years ago, we were backpacking around Southeast Asia on a budget of $75 a day. The cost of one night in this room could have pretty much paid for our entire first year of travel. A lot has changed since then, but I would say the common thread that ties this entire journey together is that we are, let's say, addicted to new experiences. Sometimes those new experiences, they aren't very glamorous or they require us pushing our body to the limit. But every once in a while, the pendulum swings the other way and we have the opportunity to experience a level of luxury and opulence that we never expected to get to experience in our entire lifetime. And that's what today is.
Every single square foot of real estate in New York City is precious. And here in the indoor portion of this penthouse alone, we have 2,700 square feet all to ourselves. So now that we're settled in, let me show you around our home for the night. Just one night. Unfortunately. This is obviously the living area, which has ridiculously high ceilings and beautiful floor to ceiling windows. To my right we have the living room with what has to be the largest non projector indoor TV I have ever seen. It's literally nine different TVs put together and takes up an entire wall. And then over here on the left side of the room, we have the fireplace. This building was originally built in 1926 and it's been renovated a couple times since. But they've done a great job of preserving that old world charm.
To our left is the dining area. And over here is the. I don't know what it is about this desk, but it makes me want to do something really important like sign a contract or write a wall.
If you follow me this way down the marble hallway, this first door on our right is closed. This is a private workout room. Honestly, after what we did last weekend, this door will probably stay closed for the duration of our stay. Over here on this side of the hallway, we have a kitchen with a fridge, lots of dishes. All things maybe to host a big party with that make us feel like we need more friends in New York City. Across the hall from the kitchen, we have the master bedroom, complete with a chandelier and way too many pillows on the bed.
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.
But I think the most special part about this room is the feeling that you get when you walk into it. Something about the carpet and the heavy drapes and the padded walls. It almost feels like a studio. My voice just disappears. And to have a this quiet sanctuary and one of the loudest cities in the world, there's something special about it. Before you get to the bathroom, you have not one, but six closets, complete with luxurious robes and slippers. They're gold finishes, which just kind of goes with the old world charm vibe that's throughout the entire penthouse. We also have two vanities. A full tub shower and a technologically advanced toilet.
Whoa, he forgot to mention that the floors are heated.
This 1300 square foot outdoor patio is without a doubt the crown jewel of the penthouse New York. To have this much outdoor space to yourself in New York has to be unheard of. Over here we have the outdoor TV hangout area, private fountain, and without a doubt, the best part about this patio is the view of the Chrysler Building. And currently it is just glowing in the sunset. And there are, of course, several different seating options.
Sorry, I was just having a moment. Oh, and we're locked out.
Here's to a crazy neck.
So I can go like this. Wait, I don't want that anymore. At least.
I'm winning. No, no.
Two of the best gaming chests ever.
Hey, we have one hour until dinner. We're 15 minutes from times Square. Should we go? Yes, let's go.
I have to pee.
Let's go to Times Square.
This is so exciting. Problem is, I only packed flip flops and it's cold outside, so.
Maddie.
So we've only been to New York a handful of times, and I'm sure this is gonna make the locals roll their eyes.
I can't believe we're leaving our tent now.
Should we do a hot dog instead?
Times Square. I will never forget the first time Nate and I came here together. We had like, layover. So in between flights, we left the airport with all of our bags, took the metro to Times Square, and literally just sat on them and looked up at this view. We ate a piece of 99 cent pizza, just like we did earlier today. It's just so funny how we're back in the same spot. Totally different people under totally different circumstances, but it's still just special. I love it here so much.
I didn't realize what a special place Times Square was to us. On top of everything else, the first and I think only award we've ever received for making YouTube videos was in a theater somewhere right back there.
Oh, my gosh.
Wow.
Cheers. For our main course, we have this beautiful quinoa salad and grilled salmon and vegetables.
So good. That is the juiciest salmon I've ever had. Thank you. It's.
Morning.
Coffee's ready.
Good morning. I was wondering, is it possible to get bagels and cream cheese delivered to the penthouse?
This is definitely one of the more ridiculous breakfasts I've ever experienced.
Now I have to go back up my stuff.
Nothing on the desk. Nothing in the living room. Nothing in the workout room. Anything in the bedroom? Anything under the bed? No.
Okay.
I guarantee I left something in that place. I lost the first coffee I made for 10 minutes this morning.
Normally, I would be super sad to leave a place like this, but there is still one more ridiculous chapter to this story.
Thank you.
Have a good day.
This is our ride to the airport.
That was awesome.
So many modes of transportation today.
How are you doing today?
Not bad at all.
It's a beautiful day.
Of course, once you wake from bed, you step out of bed.
Life is good. Life is good.
I love it. Always remember, happiness is a choice. Too bad my wife don't believe in that.
Thank you very much.
Bye.
Bye. Bye. I know that was absolutely ridiculous, but it took five minutes to get to jfk, and that has to be the best thing I've ever done in New York City.
The views seriously brought me to tears.
Getting an aerial view of the city from that close up was absolutely incredible. Okay, it's back to real life from here. We fly three hours back to Nashville and then we have 48 hours to prepare for the next adventure in another country.
We need to play some music. I wish you were here.
Yeah.
