SPENDING THE NIGHT IN A KOREAN SPA | Full Jimjilbang Experience!

Nate and Kara Buchanan vlog their overnight visit to Dragon Hill Spa (a Korean jimjilbang). They describe arriving around 10pm, receiving khaki clothing and wristbands, separating by gendered bathing floors, and spending hours moving through hot baths, themed saunas, scrubs, cold tubs, and a co-ed cafeteria before sleeping on tile in a communal area. They narrate cultural observations (norms around communal nudity, scrubbing rituals), practical details (locker system, wristband payments, egg snacks for ~$3), and timestamps of their stay culminating in leaving around 2:45am to catch a fish market auction.

Okay.
We just ate octopus tentacles that we're still moving at the fish market.
It's about 10pm and we just arrived at the Dragon Hill Spa and resort.
So we have to be back at the fish market at 3am because we want to catch like the actual auction. But our place is pretty far away from here. This.
Jimboljang I think is what the Korean spa is called, is only a subway stop away. So instead of going all the way home, we're gonna spend the next five hours here at the Korean spa.
That's what the Koreans do. You go sleep there in addition to spa things.
But not like in a bed. I think you sleep on the floor. It involves getting completely naked in front of random strangers.
We really do not know what to expect.
We don't know how much we're going to be able to film. We just know that the next like five hours is going to be crazy.
Shall we?
Let's do it.
Thank you.
So just entered the gym. Jewel. So just entered the spa. We were given some nice khaki clothing and a wristband and pointed towards these lockers where I'm pretty sure we're supposed to store our shoes. Our number has 637 on here. I think they're smart.
Men.
Ah.
What number? 637.
Go to fifth floor.
Thank you.
And there is a big locker for your clothes on the back.
Thank you.
Now we're going our separate ways. The women's floor is the third floor and the men's floor is the fifth floor. But the first floor is co ed. We're gonna go put on our khakis, meet back up on the first floor.
Here goes doctor.
Ready? Break.
Love you. Good luck. Hopefully this is better than the capsule hotel.
This is weird.
Yeah, Lots of naked dudes around me. How do you like my khakis.
Man?
This is super cute.
I do not recognize you. This cloth feels like a.
Are we in an arcade?
I just want to play all the games.
What is this? Everybody in my locker room was naked and blow drying their hair.
I saw a lot more video after the one that we ate earlier. You have to go back and watch my set video. Is that what you think?
What do we do now? Is there like a coed like pool or like sauna?
I think there's boys and girls like saunas and I think there's a co ed heated pool, the one I saw on the Internet.
So it's like almost 11 o' clock at night and this place like there's tons of people here.
What is this? Place we have no clue what's going on or what. The rest of the night or the next five hours is gonna be good.
I love Korea.
All right.
We've done a little exploring and now we've decided it's actually time to go get naked. But we don't have a watch or anything, so we don't know when to meet back up. We're on totally separate floors.
I say 12:30.
Okay. I think I can. I think I can last so long.
Here we go.
So we just spent the last two hours naked and separated and we just met back up. It is now. I don't know. Watch on. It's about 1am what was yours like?
I don't even know where to start. Is it weird to say I was oddly comfortable? Like, it was almost.
Normal.
This is our third naked spa experience. Once in an onsen in Japan and then once in a hammam in Morocco.
So I feel like this one was the best. I walk into the sauna where nobody's wearing clothes, and just like in Japan, there's this section with all these like, showers, like stand up showers, and little stools that you sit on with little mini hoses and one bar soap. And everybody's just like scrubbing themselves. It is so funny how normal it is to them. Like, they all have their little routine. Like, you can tell they all have their little, like, kit that they bring with them and like their razor and they have their own little scrubber. I bought a scrubber and a face mask. It was like $5.
Here's the problem. Carrie usually doesn't have the money, but they give you these little bands where you can just swipe them and buy whatever you want.
I just walked up to the bar and there were like all these different scrubbers and soaps. And so I got this green tea face mask and this like really hard scrubber thing. And the ladies are just in there just like scrubbing each other. Like, it's just this friend hangout. And they'll just go and. And sitting on little plastic stools and spray each other and scrub each other. And I wanted to do it. I feel so soft. I really feel like the lady at the ha. Mom would be proud.
Okay, so inside of like the area where you naked, you obviously can't film, or at least normal people like us can't film. But when we were doing research earlier today, we learned that Conan o', Brien, who is a late night talk show host in the U.S. at some point, did get permission to film inside a Korean spa. What Is Jim Jilbang. Jim Jaebang means saunas.
Saunas.
Okay, let's go, Jim. Ja bang. So we're gonna let him fill in the gaps that we couldn't fill. When you first go in, there's several really hot baths. Ah, that's hot.
Super hot.
There's also a auna that's about 77 or 78, I think mine was to race.
No way.
Yeah.
Why are you not looking at me? Look at me. Look at me. Look at me. Look at me.
Look at me.
Why do you not look at me? There is also, like, after you get your body heat up to like, a million degrees, there's a cold tub where you can go get it back down. No, no, no.
No. Oh, my God.
No. In the corner of this big room, there are these masseuse ladies, and they have these towel things and they're scrubbing people. No, those are freckles.
Those stay on. Those aren't supposed to come off.
I think I heard some screaming.
Oh.
Oh, mother.
Okay, so it's one. We have, like an hour and a half left here, and I got to explore while I was waiting on you. And downstairs on the first floor, there's several, like, co ed sauna rooms. So you, like, wear your clothes. It's not, like, super hot. I feel like we should go explore the rest of this place.
Yeah.
Let's go.
Watch your pyramid training.
We are now inside a marble pyramid.
Such a bizarre place.
This is a terrible sauna.
There is a snowman in the sauna.
This is the worst sauna ever.
So we are currently in an igua sauna, which feels amazing to me. This is the first time that I haven't been hot since we've gotten here.
Hey.
But there's just like this huge room with all these people sleeping on the tile floor. And then, like, outside, like, on the edges of that room, there's. Yeah. Mystery saunas.
This is so strange.
I love this room. There's just like. It's all these pipes with snow on them.
Don't touch it.
Oh, that feels good.
Can we leave now?
Yeah, sure.
Okay.
This is the exact opposite of the room that we were just in.
Why does it look like an igloo? Weird.
I'm sure the clay has some kind of white medicinal purposes.
It smells nice in here.
I will seriously sweat through my cat case in, like, two seconds.
Okay, let's go find another one.
It's burning me. I think this is what you're supposed to do. Lay on the blanket on the salt.
It's still hot. Though.
It's so hot.
I kind of like how you just kind of sink down into the salt crystals.
Yeah, it's kind of nice. It's like sand.
Reminds me of Conan's Cocoa Puffs. I think we're in a room filled with Cocoa Puffs. Okay. It's too hot. I think I'm done with the saunas there.
We do maybe go in the cold one.
Sounds like it's gonna blow up.
I'm sorry if we're getting a little delicious. It is almost 2am.
Now. It's burning my feet.
We're now in the cafeteria area of the spa. This is where this spa has a cafeteria area. We couldn't take any more om saunas, so we decided to try the local spa delicacy, which is apparently eggs. You have golden egg, AKA a smoked egg, black egg, like they call it a charcoal egg, and a regular egg, all for $3. And we also got a giant jug of iced coffee because we are fading fast.
Oh, it's yellow inside. It's definitely not hot.
Is it weird that in yesterday's video we ate squid tentacles? And I felt a lot better about that than I do about this weird yellow egg.
That is pretty weird.
It tastes like the room temperature egg.
It's not bad. Whoa, that one looks gross. Gross.
It's just so room temperature and so not fresh. I just can't get past that.
A pillow.
Is good for your back or something. Or maybe the tile has some kind of like, mineral that it's made out of and it just soaks into your skin and you sleep.
What do you think? People are passed out here.
It is like the middle of the night.
There's so many people.
Honestly, I'm really scared that we're gonna fall asleep on this tile and then wake up after the fish auction. Just completely, completely miss it.
Which would be so sad because that's like, the whole reason we decided to come here overnight.
But, like, we just took hot baths. I mean, it's like a recipe for falling asleep.
Somehow she managed to fall asleep on the tile.
We gotta go.
We gotta go.
It is now 2:45am I feel like we can say we have officially done the entire Korean spa experience.
We have Jim Jilbanged. Seriously, I'm so glad we did this. This is. This whole concept is just so fascinating to me. And now that we've done three and see now normal it is in these other cultures, I wish we had something like this. Like, the closest thing I can compare it to in the US Is having like a YMCA membership.
If you could just lay on the ground and sleep anywhere at the ymca, that's kind of what I would compare this to, seriously. Plus, there's a lot of naked old men in the ymca, so it is actually kind of fun. Okay, now we have to figure out how to catch a bus back over to the fish market to go see the auction. Hope you enjoyed this. Hopefully it didn't get too weird. We're both a little delirious.
Hopefully, if you're coming to a Jim.
Jim Joe Bang, you'll know what to expect now.
All right, let's go.
