A short travel vlog by Nate and Kara Buchanan in La Paloma, Uruguay. The vlog documents flying a drone (brief panic and antenna fix), a foggy/sunny beach visit where they buy empanadas from a vendor ("dos carne y dos caprese"), a trip up a lighthouse (built in 1874; about 140 steps; $2 admission), and a humorous Spanish language mix-up in a grocery store (asking for 'sopa' instead of 'soap').

Tell us where you're going.
Well, first I'm googling. Flying a drone in Uruguay.
That's smart.
Sam.
Crashed it.
No, you didn't. Oh, my gosh.
No, it's. The footage that I think I got was half as good as what I think it is. Today's vlog is finished. It's gonna be the best one.
Yay.
A lot of storyline, Just a lot of beautiful shots. Flying the drone this morning was so much fun. I did have this one point. I, like, was moving all of the controls on the thing and nothing was happening, and it was only getting further away from me, and. And I just, like, went into sheer panic that I was gonna lose the drone our second time flying it. But I think what happened is I just got panicky and I was hitting the wrong buttons. But after 30 seconds, I regained composure. It came back. We still have a drone. I flipped the antennas up, so that was obviously the problem.
Yesterday we did not film a vlog because it rained the whole.
Which was disappointing because we came here to go to the beach, and that's pretty much all there is to do. But we sat on our computers all day, which is oddly enjoyable to us as well every once in a while. But today, the sun is finally out. We've been here for three days, and we haven't seen it yet. So we are going to go to the beach for as long as possible.
The sun's, like, kind of out. Like, it's sunny, but it's really foggy, kind of. We're going to the beach.
Graffiti and flowers are a really pretty mix. We got a little distracted. Now we're really going to the beach. I can, like, feel the mist right now of the fog.
Not getting burnt today.
So there's a guy who's been making his way down the beach with a red cooler selling something. No earthly idea what it is, but I'm gonna buy because I'm really hungry. I assume it's food.
We'Re about to see. Hablo un poco espanol que es empanadas. Empanadas perfecto. Dos carne y dos caprese. Si cuatos cuesta.
Gracias.
20.
Perfect. He had a cooler full of warm empanadas.
They're not as fresh as the ones we had cooked in the brick oven, but they're still pretty good. Muy delicioso.
We had a great few hours at the beach. It stayed this strange, cloudy but sunny thing the whole time, but it was kind of nice.
Now we are heading back to Our place to change some clothes and go check out the lighthouse that we spotted with the drone earlier this morning.
We were about to head to the lighthouse, and then as soon as we walked outside, we realized that it's raining kind of. It's like a really hard mist.
Misting.
We've just been, like, kind of in a cloud all day. Except the clouds a lot heavier right now.
What do we do?
Wait it out. All right, we're gonna wait it out. Back inside.
Let's go.
All right, round two.
It's about 20 minutes later. The sun is shining. So we are heading across town to the lighthouse.
It was built in 1874 and you can go up 140 something stairs to the top and see the whole city.
Going this way.
This town has the coolest old cars.
We made it to the lighthouse.
There you go.
Started from the bottom. Now we're here.
We made it to the top. I think this is the most popular tourist attraction in town. There's like, enough room on the stairs for one person, so you have to wait for people to go up and down. Good view, though. About the same as we saw from the drone this morning.
Nice to experience it firsthand, though.
It is much less breezy down here. Much warmer.
That was $2 well SP spent. Now we're going to head to the other beach that we haven't explored yet.
It's all the plans we have for today.
Save. I'm touching this, but I have to know what this is. It's like a squishy egg. Something has birthed itself out of it with three holes like a dinosaur. If you know what this is, please tell me. They're everywhere on this beach.
We are heading home to cook some dinner and calling it a day.
But first we have to go to the store and get some toilet paper and laundry detergent. The less glorious parts of traveling.
Now, we had already closed down the vlog, but made one of my biggest foreign language blunders While we were in the grocery store. So most places we go, we know how to say, like, two words. So we don't really try to speak the language too much. But we know, like, a little bit more Spanish. Not a lot more, but a little more. So I tried to ask the lady where I could find soap for my clothes. And I knew. Yeah, but I didn't know how to say that. And I thought I knew how to say soap for my clothes. So I asked her, donde esta la sopa para mi ropa? Which I thought was, where can I find soap for my clothes.
But sopa is soup. So I asked her where I could find soup for my clothes. She laughed a lot, but she was very nice. Then she took me straight to it. No.
Smart.
This is a test to see what it looks like when I run.
Running test.
I love this car.
Yeah, it's a good one. I would drive that want this car.
I don't know if you can hear, but it sounds like there's a bunch of dying cats in this field. But you can't see see anything.
