TEMPLE STREET Night Market | Hong Kong's BEST Night Market

A first-person travel vlog by Nate and Kara Buchanan documenting day two in Hong Kong. They visit a coffee shop to upload vlogs, eat instant noodles at their hotel, explore Chung King Mansion, wander Shanghai Street and the Ladies Market sampling street food (pork buns, dumplings, wonton), then film a multi-block walkthrough of the Temple Street Night Market, do bargain shopping (selfie-stick piece for $2) and end at the harbour. The vlog includes on-camera interactions with vendors and explicit price comparisons (e.g., $30 restaurant meal vs. $7.50 market dinner).

How am I gonna stir this?
Day two in Hong Kong. It's not that cold today.
Once again, we are going to a coffee shop because it is hopeless to get a vlog uploaded at our hotel. And I told Kara that I could navigate us there by myself. And I turned around and caught her looking at Google maps because she didn't trust without maps into poorly. Kara's now taking the lead.
Are you glad that we have terrible Internet at our hotel so you have to come here every morning? We thought about trying out a new coffee shop today, but the coffee here was amazing and the views are fantastic. So what's the point?
Nate is still a little upset about our expensive dinner last night. So to make up for it, instant noodles. Nate is going to find chopsticks and I'm in charge of making our soup. I'm using our bed as a table.
We are at the Chung King mansion with your rental. TripAdvisor. Some place that's like used to be low income housing and. And now it's turned into like where a bunch of different cultures have shops and live. I don't know. TripAdvisor told us to go here. It's turned into a bunch of Indian men trying to sell me suits.
Look, we're getting mugged. All right, let's go back downstairs. Oh, not that way. This way. If nothing else, don't look lost.
That was weird. And we're leaving. Only Planet said poke your head in. And that's probably what we should have done. That was nuts. That was like entering another world or something.
Staring at us. I don't know what that was.
Definitely the most endangered I've felt since I entered Hong Kong. Now we're going to Shanghai Street. These must be the best waffle balls in all of Hong Kong. Check out this line.
Whoa. Those things are huge.
What are those things? Look like cockroaches of the ocean.
I think we've made it to Shanghai Street. We haven't seen a sign yet.
Boom.
Oh, there it is. Found it.
Thank you.
He's blowtorching these babies.
We read about the ladies market online and had planned to go at some point, probably while we were here, but we accidentally stumbled upon it. Lots of ladies selling lots of fruit.
Are we back in Shanghai Street?
Yes, it grand parallel with it down the market.
These dumplings look amazing. The only problem is we have no clue what any of them are. I'm going to attempt to order. Here's a wallet. Good luck.
Can I get a pork dumpling? Pork bun?
Pork bunk bun ball.
Don't mind dumpling.
Bun.
Oh, bun. Sorry.
Pork bun.
Pork bun.
It's called a bun.
Let's go eat it. How do we eat this thing?
We eat it with our hand.
Last time you had one of these was in the 7 11. It was.
I just got the bread part.
It's huge. It's like as big as your head. So that was, like less than a dollar.
Better than the one at the 7:11.
Oh, interesting.
Oh, nice.
This man really likes us. You inside?
Oh, yeah.
Oh, being invited inside to video the dumplings.
Ah.
What kind of these? Wow.
Ah, Those look fantastic.
Awesome.
Thank you very much. Very good.
Have a good day. Bye. Bye. I love that guy. Okay, it's decision time. This restaurant where we don't know what any of the food is, or this restaurant where we don't know what any of the food is, that one has pictures. That one does have pictures. All right. I'd choose this one. I'm not sure what to order.
What is this?
This is wonton.
Wonton. What's inside of it?
The chili.
Chili. Chili. Hot one. Very hot. Yeah. Okay. I don't like that.
You can take a tomato, egg, noodles, and then you can add three dumping for inside and that one. Okay.
Okay.
Give me a good idea for you. I have you to look for Goodman for using passing. Okay. You hear me?
Thank you for helping me.
So I walked into this restaurant, and it looked really dumb because I didn't even know what to order because there's no pictures in here. And this man just came and ordered for me and got us a seat and cleaned our table. And I don't know if he works there or if he's just a really nice man. I think she's just really nice.
Appears as though Cara got some type of soup with eggs and tomatoes. It's like omelet soup.
We must have left that part out. That must have got lost in translation.
Killing it with the chopsticks. That's good.
This is a huge bowl.
Who knows how much we're paying for this? I think you just said give the Americans one of everything on the menu.
Those are fresh.
She's making them.
Going into town.
How much did each other cost?
$7.50. We got, like, twice as much food as we got last night. And we paid $30 for a meal last night and $7 tonight. Go to the places where the menu is only in Chinese.
Now we're doing simple street.
Much more is going on now that it's gotten dark.
It was not alive yet when we were here last, and it has awoken. Awakened.
It has awakened way more junk now.
All right, I'm about to attempt to show you the entire temple street night market. And fast forward.
Shoulders going into a cramp. I didn't know what kind of commitment I was making. That was three full blocks of the temple street night market. Now I gotta go find Karen.
Today is a special day. They bought something at the market before me.
Been looking at one of these for a long time. We shoot a lot of our time lapses on Kara's phone. We have to hold it with her hand. Then you gotta sit there and you gotta hold it for like 60 seconds in the same spot. Try not to shake it. Got this, like, little mini gorilla pocket. We have no way to attach the phone to it. So I haggled with a guy, Bought just a piece of a selfie stick for $2.
Just a piece of it.
Now I'm done shopping. For a long time.
Nate's using his new toy behind the scenes. How we time lapse.
We are trying to figure out how to go look at the harbor, but there's lots of walls blocking us from it. We found the harbor, and it's so pretty.
No, it is not supposed to rain tonight. Our rain jackets are just an extra layer of warmth.
It's cold by the water.
Check out this top. Lapse.
Now there's something more normal, because you might not want to put that in there.
What kind of animal you think it is, Nate? What kind of animal you think it has?
Quality fresh pork right up there.
Oh, I guess.
Yeah.
Oh, look at those pigs feet.
No, Sorry. Very sorry. Very sorry. Man at the saw next to me made me feel better about getting yelled by the old woman. She told me she was crazy.
All righty.
