THE BEST TRAIN IN INDIA | Duronto Express | Overnight Jaipur to Mumbai

This YouTube video follows Nate and Kara Buchanan on an overnight Duronto Express train from Jaipur to Mumbai. They travel in AC first class (private two-bed cabin), describe amenities (strong AC, folded bedding, outlets, clean toilet), and report that dinner and breakfast are included and served onboard. The scheduled journey is about 16.5 hours; the couple arrive roughly 20 minutes late. They contrast this smooth trip with prior delayed trains (a 12-hour train that took 20+ hours), note sleeping through much of the night (Kara: midnight–8:30), and end with arriving in Mumbai and taking an Uber.

And that was it. Oh gosh.
That scared me so bad.
Tonight we're continuing our train journey through India with the longest train ride we've had yet.
We are traveling from Jaipur to Mumbai. It's supposed to take six, 16 and a half hours, which sounded like a really good idea when we booked it in advance. Then our last 12 hour train took 20 plus hours. So we'll see.
Sam.
This is a really nice train station. It's totally nuts. Our train doesn't leave for 20 minutes and it's already here like it'd be this year. I can't believe it. And it's green and pretty. I'm very excited.
So today we're riding a train called the Duronto Express and from what I hear it's one of the best public trains in all of India. And we're riding an AC first class, so it should be one of our best train rides yet.
India's been pretty hard on our way back.
The AC is so strong right now.
Oh yeah, this is our fridge. You can have a red carpet up to your bed and it's cold and it smells clean. It smells like Lysol in here.
Wow.
This is most impressive with the train. Look at this. Mirror outlets, folded bedding, it's all here. There's for each bed. We don't have to go steal one from another bed. Oh.
Cleaning the windows.
Is that for bus?
He sprayed a lot of whatever that was.
This is by far the nicest train that we've been on. This is our fourth train that we've ridden on in India. And this is like 10, 20, I don't know, a lot of years newer than any of the other trains that we've ridden on. And we've gotten super lucky once again. In first class they do the cars. There's two beds in one room, four beds in one room, two beds in one room. And for the second time in a row we've gotten a room all to ourselves with two beds.
Also, a guy came and knocked on our door and offered us two orders included. Then asked us if we wanted veg or non veg for dinner.
Dinner's included and we've already ordered breakfast. Breakfast for tomorrow morning. All included in the ticket price.
All right.
The problem with them giving us food is that we almost starved to death on our last 12 hour train that turned into 20 hours.
Nobody's come and tried to sell me coffee. It is now 12 o' clock and we're both getting pretty hungry. I would love like some peanut. We also haven't had coffee. I need it.
So this.
Entire bag is filled with snacks.
We're not going hungry on this trip.
I went super overboard. I'm embarrassed that there's four bags of chips, a bag of peanuts.
This is leftover peanut butter.
Peanut butter. This I'm also a bit ashamed of. We brought dinner on the train. We broke down. After three weeks of Indian food, it was time. Crackers. To be fair, I wanted chips and the guy only had crackers. And then I found chips. I bought some more crackers.
Toilet paper.
Emergency. More. More. I don't know why I have so many crackers. Gum.
Oh, here's a really healthy snack.
Extra water almonds. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. One again. Seven Snickers. We may or may not have already eaten one of them. We got plenty of food for this trip and like the rest of India, I think.
Yeah.
All right. Sixteen and a half hours to Mumbai.
Maybe we should go share our food with somebod.
I think dinner might be coming courses. This very nice man came in here and set up this tray and brought me tomato soup. Oh, it's very orange. This is a real glass spoon.
Oh, wow. It's like tomato soup with an Indian twist. Oh, breadsticks.
I don't like those. It's been about 45 minutes since our soup. We're thinking maybe dinner doesn't come in courses. And that was it.
That scared me so bad.
We put our bed up like a sea and we didn't know how to secure it. And we're like, oh, it's not a big deal.
I thought I had it locked.
Feels sturdy now.
We're almost smushed like a pancake. The thing is empty. Anyways. It's been a long time, so we're thinking our second course is not coming. So now it's really dinner time.
Yes.
Reach. Dude ate the pizza prematurely.
This is a ton of food. I feel really bad because I'm really full. We already sent one back because we know we're not gonna eat all of this. Like, I really just want to taste. Oh, this actually looks really good. Some kind of cauliflower curry with chopped up cilantro on top. And cilantro is my favorite. Curried potatoes with more chopped up cilantro. Some other kind of soup with more cilantro and rice and.
Chapati and yogurt and a juice box. They really take care of you on this train. I wish I was hungry for this. I am super impressed with first class. Can we to see what's for breakfast? Yay. Just One of them.
Yes. Two. Oh.
One.
Thank you.
Thank you. He was gonna give us three.
We just thought dinner was over. It's ending with super vanilla ice cream. That's really good. Yeah, it's like exactly what you need after a plate of spicy Indian food.
And pizza. Can you tell we're both feeling better today?
This is seriously probably more food than either of our bodies have consumed in the last three days.
More spray.
Hi. Hello.
How are you?
Thank you.
That's the third time somebody's come in and sprayed.
I don't know what they're spraying, but it smells nice.
It does smell nice.
Smells clean.
It's weird.
Somebody comment below and tell us what the spray thing's about.
Maybe it's just air fresh. The first guy came and sprayed everything. We like left the rail while he sprayed. Then he came back and we were like, no, it's okay. We thought he forgot he already did it and he just stood there shocked that we said no. And then he left and then he came back and like stuck his arm in it.
All right, it's time to go to bed and try to get some sleep.
No lie. I slept from midnight last night until 8:30 this morning and did not wake up until the man banged on our door saying, bye. Bus on a moving train.
Everything about this train ride has been so much better than all the other train rides that we've taken in India. I woke up, I checked Google Maps and it looks like we're actually on time. So we should be in Mumbai in about an hour.
This train is flying.
Thank you.
It would be a proper train tour if I didn't do a bathroom review. So I'm in the western style toilet room. It's really not bad. Like one of the better ones. I don't see the train tracks through the hole of the toilet. That's a first. Like our other first class train, it has seat covers, which is just the greatest toilet paper soap. The window is cracked, so it smells pretty fresh. I'm impressed.
We have made IT to Mumbai 20 minutes later than scheduled. But I'll take it. Considering that our last overnight train was eight hours delay. So we've walked just slightly outside of the train station and Mumbai actually has Uber, so Kara's called an Uber.
I don't know what he's saying. We're standing with our suitcases on the corner of the intersection. What color is your car?
Okay.
I have no idea what he said, where he is, but he said two minutes. He's coming, he's coming.
You are on the fastest route despite heavier than usual traffic. You should reach your destination by 1317.
Yeah.
Thank you. Bye.
Bye.
He is so sweet. We're here. That took like an hour. Mumbai is huge and smells like fish.
Those are my first impressions.
Little small, no windows, but it'll do.
It's clean.
We're gonna end today's video here, and the next video that you see is gonna be our first full day exploring Mumbai.
It's a very blue light right here.
Here's Mer.
Let me do it again without going sleep. I was, like, in.
I think I'm getting tired.
No, I can't do it.
Okay.
Got the privacy curtain going on here. Can't get through your head. I have two hands. Thanks.
I didn't want anybody to look at me. Jealous of her. Two bedroom.
Sorry.
