Tokyo CAPSULE HOTEL Experience NIGHTMARE

Nate and Kara Buchanan book a Tokyo capsule hotel and end up at a grungy, smoky place by mistake. They're separated by gender, sleep on thin mattresses behind curtains, and buy face masks to handle the secondhand smoke before spending the night in their tiny pods.

Sorry, this vlog was posted late. We're out in the rural Philippines and the wi fi is non existent.
I just really feel like we can't capture or explain this moment.
We think we're at our capsule hotel, but once again, squiggly lines.
That looks like it to me.
Which.
Which ticket? Which one?
Two tickets for tonight's capsules.
Security.
We'Re gonna have to part ways.
Because Kara's staying on the sixth floor.
In the ladies area, and I'm staying on the eighth floor.
I'm really nervous.
Yeah, but this was way cheaper than booking online. It's only like, $20.
Love you.
This is the capsule that I'm staying at for the night. What the.
It smells like smoke.
And it kind of looks like something out of a horror movie. Cara is going to kill me.
It stinks in here. And there's no lock on the door.
It's just a curtain.
What was I thinking? This is not like the modern capsules that I saw on the Internet.
It's made of beads. It's like a bean bag. So that's different.
This mat in the floor right here.
Is like an inch thick, and then there's concrete underneath.
I have no idea what this is. It's like a belt.
Oh, man.
Good thing I booked us a hotel for tomorrow night. Maybe Kara won't be as mad. These are the fancy capsules that we should be staying in.
Kara doesn't know it yet, but when she put this in Google Maps, she put in the wrong capsule hotel. So now we're staying at a super shady, super grungy capsule motel. And we paid with a vending machine, so it's not like we can get our money back. I think we're stuck here for the night with these guys.
I'm riding up the elevator now to confront Kara about taking us to the wrong shady capsule hotel.
What would you say if I told you this was not the capsule hotel that I found on TripAdvisor? And that you put the wrong one into Google Maps? And now we're at a super shady capsule hotel.
Are you sure?
Positive.
Oops.
I would say oops.
Did yours have a room in it?
Yeah.
Why is nobody smoking on this floor?
We were smoking right beside my bed, and everybody downstairs is smoking.
Is it cheaper than the one that you found?
It's cheaper.
Oopsie. I'm sorry.
I didn't want to do this. I feel like it should be fair. After I've thought about it some more. I'm pretty sure I'm the one that Gave Cara the wrong address to put in her phone. That led us to the wrong place. But this was not the capsule hotel I intended us to go to.
Oh, Nate, you didn't have to do that.
I think it's the truth. It would have rotted the insides of me had I kept it in. It's very hot in there. It smells like smoke.
It does stink.
So we're going out for dinner.
Oh.
People were sitting on the ground.
Yes.
I think we did this wrong. You're supposed to wave at them from the outside and tell them how many.
People are sitting at your party.
And we just walked right in.
Right.
Open the door. Which one? This one? That one. I think.
A little bit of seaweed left.
Tastes so weird.
Oh, my gosh. They were adorable. I love that place.
That was awesome.
Soba noodles. And I love our waitresses.
The camera calls to rise. We have.
They loved it. They wanted to touch it. They wanted to move the legs around.
This metal flexible tripod attached to the bottom of the camera. They were very entertained. Everybody wanted to come touch it.
They were just talking to each other.
Like.
We have recognized that even though they have to know we understand nothing that they are saying. They just continue talking to us. Almost got hit by a bike. They just continue talking to us in Japanese for, like, 30 seconds.
We wanted to work on our computers together, but the only community room in our capsule hotel has a bunch of smokers in it. So we bought some mask so we wouldn't hurt our lungs.
Our room came with these nice ropes.
Going to our separate beds in our shady capsules.
Stinky capsules.
Shady, stinky capsules.
Whatever we're looking at.
We got to.
Be out by 9:30.
Let's leave it like 6:30.
Good night.
I can breathe.
That was an experience.
