TYPICAL DAY AT SEA | 15 DAY REPOSITIONING CRUISE

YouTube vlog-style transcript of "TYPICAL DAY AT SEA | 15 DAY REPOSITIONING CRUISE" (Dec 8, 2017) featuring Kara and Nate Buchanan. The hosts walk viewers hour-by-hour through a typical sea day on a repositioning cruise: morning coffee and buffet (English vs continental), deck games, daily dancing (including lion dances and a "Walk Across Texas" line dance), a workout regimen (treadmill affected by ship motion), poolside work and notes on the ship Wi-Fi (usable; uploaded vlogs albeit slowly), evening dress-up dinner in the main dining room with multi-course menus and desserts, and a decades-themed stage show. Tone is casual, playful, observational.

Sam.
Is our third day at sea, which means we've been on the cruise for three full days without getting off. You might think that we are bored or sick of cruising life, but we're actually really enjoying it.
So we thought it would be fun today to take you through one of our days hour by hour and show you pretty much what we've been doing for the last three days.
We have coffee in bed and do a little bit of work, but we pretty much do that every day no matter what.
What, that's standard whether we're on the ocean or on land.
Except for here. We have fuzzy ropes.
Around nine o'clock every morning we head upstairs to the buffet to grab some breakfast.
We're still doing that thing where we're not taking elevators, which I really regret in the morning. So we have to go up like 10 flights. How are you, love? Moving. You want coffee, Teeth? Yes, please. Thank you.
So the first morning when we came to breakf, we got to the breakfast buffet and there were beans, white sausage. No, what do they call it? Pudding? It looks like sausage. There was even like cooked fish on breakfast buffet. And we were like, oh, it's going to be a really long two weeks at breakfast time. And then the next morning we discovered that there's actually two different buffets here on the ship. One is an English breakfast, which is where we went the first morning. And the one that we're eating at this morning is the continental breakfast, which is much better. Now it is almost 10 o' clock every morning. Up on the top deck where all the sports stuff is, they have this competition with these three ropes that you put together. Looks kind of like cornhole. You like throw it and try to get it closest to the center. We haven't done it yet, but it looks like a lot of fun. So we're gonna head up there and try it.
Unfortunately, George and I didn't fare very well in the circle rope game. Apparently we got matched up against against the reigning champion, but I don't think I embarrassed myself either. So I'm feeling pretty good about my first time playing. Now it's time for Kara to go do something that I will definitely not be participating.
So there's dancing on the ship all the time every day. Today it's lion dancing. And one of the reasons I really like cruises is because Nate doesn't really like to dance. But everybody on the cruise likes to dance. So I'm going to go make some my friends and hold hands with your partners. St kick. 1, 2, 3. St kick. In your own circle. 1, 2, 3, 4. Left.
Right, left, right, left. Rock and rock.
That was so much fun. The first two dances were line dances, and I had picked those up pretty quickly because I'm from Tennessee and we do a lot of line dancing. But the last one was called Walk Across Texas. And it's like this slow song where your feet just were constantly, like, left, right, left, right, left, right.
It was so pretty. Right, left, right.
Now we're going to do something that is not part of our normal travel routine, but it's something that we been trying to do every day while we're here on the ship, and that's go work out, because we are eating way too much food.
Three massive meals a day is not something we normally do. And if we don't work out in between, I'm, like, not hungry enough to go to the next meal, and I like eating too much.
You work out to get hungry. Yeah. Okay, we're going to work out, but we're not taking this giant camera because I'm pretty sure that would really freak some people out in the workout room.
17 minutes in few hours. How you feeling? Tired.
We really should make ourselves do that more often.
I remember on our very first cruise together a few years ago, I didn't even know where the gym was. And I thought it was weird that people wanted to work out on their vacation. But now we're technically always vacationing.
So yesterday, so the cruise has calmed down. Like, the waves have calmed down so much today, but yesterday they were a lot bigger. And when we were running on the treadmill, it literally felt like you were running up and down the waves. So, like, you'd be running uphill on the treadmill, downhill on the treadmill.
I would feel really lightweight for a minute, and then it'd be like.
I.
Knew at any minute I was gonna trip, and the treadmill was just gonna shoot me straight off the back of it.
I think it's time to go eat.
And now I need a shower first.
Thankfully, they have a really good salad bar for lunch, so that's helping to keep us healthy. Unfortunately, also have really good dessert, so always ruin it.
We totally should have waited until today to do our ship tour because the vibe has totally changed. We're going south, and it's getting so much warmer. Everybody's out on the deck. Everybody's, like, either in a bathing suit suit or short sleeves, just hanging out. But we're not like everyone else. So we brought our computer. Going to get some work done by.
The pool.
Playing beater Dad.
I like to be in my robe any chance I get.
Unfortunately, both of our computers died while we were at the pool, so we're having to finish up work inside of our cabin before we head to dinner. Honestly though, I didn't think I was going to be able to work at all on this entire cruise. One of the biggest things that's held us back from booking a cruise until this point is Internet. I didn't know how the Internet was going to work on the boat. Like, I know boats and cruises sell Internet packages, but I didn't know if it would actually be usable Internet. So I feel like there's probably a few people that are wondering the same thing as me. So I thought I would tell you that the Internet on this boat has been super impressive. I mean, it's not like super high speed Internet, but yesterday we were able to upload three vlogs. They took like three hours apiece, which that's like standard in some of the hotels and stuff we visit. So I don't know about, like, all the specs because I haven't run any speed tests or anything. But the Internet is working great right now. Hopefully it holds up across the Atlantic.
We are heading to dinner at the fancy restaurant, but it's another dress up night, which we can't really participate in because we don't travel with costumes. But it is decades night, so it's like 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s dress. I don't think we'll stick out too much. Nate only has one collared shirt with him which is required for dinner every night. And I'm wearing Gina's dress that she gave me, so maybe she bought it in one of those decades. Wish us luck.
Thank you. Great news. We're not the only ones not dressed up. And we got a window seat. We've actually been trying to come to dinner a little early before somebody gets the window seat, and it totally worked. Also, the people that work here are crazy impressive. They remember our names and they remember that we like the window seat. And they noticed that we hadn't been here in two days.
How are you tonight?
I'm good.
There are so many people on this boat. Makes me feel really special, though. I'll start with the potted shrimp and nut milk butter. Yes. New England clam chowder with sweet and sour chicken.
So you can come to this fancy restaurant for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It's really good. But if you're coming, you're committing like two hours of your life to a meal. So if you ate here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, There wouldn't be very many hours left in the day to actually go do stuff. So we've fallen into the routine of going to the buffet for breakfast and lunch and then coming here and having a nice dinner every night. Also, for those of you who aren't familiar with cruising, I was gonna grab the menu, but that's fine. List. When you sit down for dinner, you can order whatever you want. There's starters, there's soups, salads, there's main courses, there's desserts. There's stuff after desserts. Apparently cheese and crackers is a thing. You can pretty much order whatever you want in this restaurant.
We decided to start with this shrimp in nutmeg butter.
Is that what this.
Thank you.
Oh, my gosh.
Today's menu had a section that was called Taste of Asia. And I got the sweet and sour chicken and it looks amazing.
They had a rocky road ice cream sundae for dessert.
Oh, it's so good.
Oh my gosh.
It adds, like little cookies in it. This is the best dessert yet.
Thank you very much.
We just finished dinner. We're heading back to our room. Every night when we head back to our room, we're like, we're gonna go out and see a show tonight. And then we get to the room, Karen puts on a robe, and then 8:30 rolls around and we're like, nah, we'll go see the show tomorrow night. Now we've been on the ship for five nights and we haven't gone to see the show yet. So we're gonna make ourselves go tonight saying it on the camera. So we have to do it.
I'm not gonna put on my robe. I want it.
No, no, don't. Don't do it. Don't do it.
We're doing it. We're actually going to the show right now. It's a decades singing show.
Ladies and gentlemen, another fantastic show from the cast.
We hope you enjoyed.
Food is exhausted just watching them.
