Nate Buchanan and Kara spend a day in Dublin, starting with an Irish breakfast and a folklore tour before rain sends them indoors. They split up to see the Book of Kells and Guinness Storehouse separately, then reunite to admit the experiment felt awkward and uncomfortable.

I need the keys.
Off to a good start.
Wait, which one's the door? Thanks.
Good luck. Love you.
Bye.
Today is our first and pretty much only full day in Dublin, so we're going to make the most of it by going on a walking tour so we can see as much of the city as possible.
But first, I love breakfast and Irish are supposed to have a really good breakfast. And there's a place right below us that serves a full Irish breakfast all day.
All day.
So it's lunchtime and we're getting breakfast.
The location of our apartment is seriously the best. This is like the main tourist street temple bar. And the restaurant we're going to is right here.
Thank you very much. So it looks like an Irish breakfast consists of eggs, sausage. I think this is technically white pudding, although that's not what it looks like. Mushrooms, tomato, bacon, and some bread. Cara did not go with an Irish breakfast.
That was a great way to start the day. I never had white pudding before, but it was delicious. It reminded me of Thanksgiving. I don't know what the spices were inside of it, but it tasted like the dressing that we have at Thanksgiving.
And now we are walking to our meeting spot for our walking tour. And it's only a three minute walk from our place because we have the perfect Airbnb boom. And it's a different walking tour than the ones we normally do.
Normally we do, like historical city tours, but today we're going on a fables and folklore walking tour and learn about the leprechauns. Yeah, I want to know, like, what the leprechaun thing is. I want to know the. What's the. I want to know what the clover's about. I want to know why the Irish are lucky. I hope to learn all these things.
We're starting our tour. Our guide's name is Sarah. She's from Dublin. She's really cool. But she did tell us she will never let fact get in the way of a good story. So she can't promise everything we learned today is true, but it'll be a good story.
There's a castle.
So, guys, this is Dublin Castle. It was started in 1204, finished in 1230. And Ireland at the time, you've got to imagine a country a bit like the world you see on Game of Thrones.
So we just finished our first stop and we've already learned two of the things that we wanted to learn before the tour started, which is who St. Patrick was, why he was famous here in Ireland, and. And what the shamrock is, which is apparently how St. Patrick explained Christianity to the pagans here in Ireland. So the three different leaves on the shamrock stand for the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost. And apparently the first St. Patrick's Day parades were held in the United States and not in Ireland. That's crazy. It's very hard to film and keep up with these.
It's starting to rain.
It's, like, really, really raining. We just took a group boat, and we're going to the pub to finish the tour. She's just gonna tell us stories over drinks. Like, really, really rainy.
Let's go.
So the group took a revote. They are not going to the pub. They have opted to continue in the rain. So we're doing something that we have never done before. We are quitting our first free walking tour, which I feel, like, really bad about. It was seeming really promising. Our guide was super cool. But this is our. Our waterproof thing for our electronics. And it's completely, completely drenched. So we're gonna head back to the apartment and regroup. The weather's not exactly cooperating for our one day here in London, Dublin, wherever we are. This is what I mean by really raining. Just completely soaked all the way through.
Oh, look, I have a dry spot. It was like a monsoon for five minutes.
So we were really glad that we had this really nice apartment to come into when it was raining. We were just gonna have a relaxing afternoon and catch up on some work. And then we were like, it's our.
One day in Dublin.
What are we gonna do? That's inside.
So we looked up indoor activities. Plus, we'd had a lot of suggestions. And there were two big, like, indoor things that people recommended that we do.
The Book of Kells and the Guinness Storehouse. Storehouse.
And we don't have time to do both of them today.
So I'm gonna go to the Book of Kells.
And I'm gonna go to the Guinness Storehouse. So we're doing something we've never done before. We're splitting up. We're doing different things, and we are both going to record our experiences. And then Carrot's gonna. Carrot's. Carrot. Carrots. Carrot is. Carrot's gonna edit them together for us.
But I gotta go right now because my reservation at the Book of kells is in 10 minutes. Bye. I love you.
Have fun.
I'm missing.
Good luck. Don't get lost.
I'm definitely gonna get lost.
I feel like I'm going to kindergarten for the first time. I really can't believe I'm out without Nate. I never, ever go anywhere without Nate. He leaves without me often, but I do not. Mostly because I'll get lost or I'm scared. And why would I want to do anything without him? And I have to navigate by myself. Not easy for me.
The problem with only traveling with one pair of pants is that when they get wet, I'm wearing shorts around Dublin the rest of the afternoon.
Also, I'm wearing shorts because my jeans were soaked and I didn't want to put them back on.
I'm currently en route to the Guinness storehouse. It's still raining, and I'm just realizing how dependent Kara and I are up on each other right now. So as soon as she walked out of the house, I realized that she had no money because I always carry the wallet because we're always together and she never needs money. So she's out of the house, she has no money. Hopefully she doesn't need any. Also, I've been having phone troubles, so I haven't had a phone for a few weeks now. So Kara's the only one with a phone. So I'm trying to figure out how to navigate to the storehouse without a phone. I've already had to ask, like, two different people how to get here. And normally, like, when we book tickets online for stuff like this, we take the phone and we show our tickets. But I have no phone, so I've written my confirmation number down on a piece of newspaper. This has been very educational.
Okay, so step number one is getting myself there, which is going well so far. I think it just goes straight for a long time. But step number two is going to be downloading my ticket. I just bought it. My 3G is not super fast right now, and it is not downloading, so I might not be able to ticket in.
Got my ticket. Okay, step two complete. This is looking like it, maybe. Oh, sorry.
I have no idea if this is the right way.
Also, I don't think we've ever done a brewery tour in another country. But here in Ireland, Guinness just seems to be such a big part of the culture. Just really wanted to go see what all of the hype was about. Everywhere you go in the country, there is Guinness. Like, there's a sign for Guinness. There's Guinness being served in a pub, because pubs are everywhere. So, yeah, I think this will be cool.
Hi. Where do I go if I bought online?
I just got into the storehouse. Thankfully, I booked tickets online because the line was huge and I only had to wait, like, five minutes. Got whatever that says.
Sam.
So I'm currently on, I think, the third floor of the tour. There are tons of people. I feel super awkward vlogging without Kara. Kara, I need you. What do I point the camera at? I usually just walk behind you, and you talk and say good stuff. Now it's just me over in the corner with the camera.
Okay, I've officially exited the Book of Kells. It was really cool. If I had any advice, I would say don't book the last slot to get in. Definitely book online. But don't book the last one. Because I had to rush through it all. There was so much to read and look at, and I don't even think I got to read half of what I thought looked interesting. So that was kind of a bummer. But I am really glad I went. I would recommend going just a little earlier. Like I said, definitely book online, because there was a huge line of people here trying to buy their ticket here, and I just got to walk in and show them my ticket, so that was nice. I thought I was going to get to film a lot more than I did. There was actually zero filming allowed in there, and I just did a little bit until somebody told me to stop. So sorry I didn't get to see much of it. Now it's raining. I think there might be other places I can walk in for free, but I'm not sure what. I feel a lot less brave when Nate's not with me, so I think I'm gonna head back. I hope Nate's having fun at the Guinness place. I can't remember what it's called.
Okay, here we.
Go.
Okay. I think I might actually just be on floor two of seven, according to that sign back there. So far, this place is huge. It's like a museum. There are a ton of people, and it's very informative. That's all. Kara, I need your help.
Hello?
Hello?
He's not here. Also, I don't think I ever actually said what the Book of Kells is. From what I learned at the museum, they are some of the oldest or maybe the oldest written versions of the gospel left. And some of them are pretty well preserved. Some of them are in pretty bad shape, but they're in that place, like, handwritten in Latin. Amazing.
So I just learned the proper way to taste the Guinness. Now I'm going to the third floor, which is advertising, which I'm really intrigued by.
So the last stop of the tour is here on the seventh floor in this giant glass room with tons of people. It is still pouring Outside, and I'm about to have to walk 20 minutes home.
Nate still isn't home. It's so weird to me that he's out having fun without me. It's just such a strange feeling since we are together all the time. Pretty much 247 for the last 18 months.
It has been a complete monsoon since I left the storehouse. The rain has finally let up. The storehouse was good, but I would have had a lot more fun with Cara. I'm not, like, trying to be sappy for YouTube or anything, but, like, Kara just genuinely makes life more fun, and she makes it a lot easier to vlog. I'm sorry. That was so bad.
We're back together.
I just walked in. We haven't debriefed yet. Our first separation vlogging experience.
I didn't like it.
I didn't like it either. I was kind of bored.
I was too. I missed you.
We're not doing this just for the. For the camera. How was the Book of Kells?
It was good.
Yeah.
I had to basically run through the whole thing because it was closing.
Okay.
Normally I can, like, count on you to, like, get anything that I missed.
Yeah.
Like, with the camera or just, like, by reading stuff? Yeah. And it was like, if I didn't see it or film it, it wasn't happening. I didn't like that feel.
I don't think we'll do that again.
It was a fun. It was a fun try.
It was a good experiment. Yeah. Because we would have never known. Maybe we would have loved it.
Yeah.
She could have started her own vlog.
No, I'm assuming we're in for the night since you've been rained in all day.
All right, we're ending this here. Experiment over.
So this is the current laundry situation. I created a dryer room, I cranked up the heat, and I'm closing the door to this room and hoping that all my clothes dry before we leave in the morning.
It's a lot of wet clothes if they don't dry, so.
