Are Stocks Risky?

Omar Ashur argues stocks aren't inherently risky; ignorance is. He compares trading without knowledge to crossing a street blindfolded and says the same risk applies to driving or swimming, but we only call it risky with money.

Welcome back to my channel, everybody. Today we're going to be talking about stocks. Are stocks risky? I get. I get asked this question maybe 10, 15 times on a daily basis. People come up to me. People DM me, People hit me up, hey, are stocks risky? Or people say, stocks are very risky, therefore I do not want to trade or therefore I do not want to invest. Because stocks are very risky. And that kind of frustrates me a lot because it's like you're saying stocks are risky, but you're applying the word risk to stocks only because it involves money. That's the only reason people involve risk, because it has money involved. Now, think about it, right? You're walking the street. It's risky, right? If you walk the street, let's say you walk the street, right? Now, you walk the street, you don't look left or right, you just walk straight. Is it risky? Yes or no? Yes, it's risky. But now if you walk the street and you look left and then you look right, it's not risky because you're looking at what's going on. And there's a very, very low chance of a car coming in and running you over. Same thing with stocks. Think about it. If you go into the stock market, you have no knowledge, you have no information, you know absolutely nothing, and you go and you make a trade, what are the chances of you losing your money? There's a high chance of you losing your money. Just as if you cross the road without looking left or right, right? But now look at it like this. You get into the stock market with the proper education, with the proper skill set, with the proper knowledge of actually trading, what are the chances of you not making money? Right? People don't look at it like that. People look at it as, stocks are risky. Why? Because my uncle lost money or my aunt lost money or this guy lost money, blah, blah, blah, because of that. It's risky. But everything in this life has risk. Everything good will have risk. Even things that are not that great have risk. You getting in the car in the morning is going to have risk. But the problem people have nowadays, people like to apply risk to one thing, one thing only, and that's money. People think when you think of the word risk, right? Hold on. Wait. Wait a second. Think of the word risk. What comes to your head? Money. That's it. You don't think about, oh, if I ride my bicycle, it's a risk, I might break my leg. Oh, if I get in the car, I'm risking my life, I might get into an accident, somebody else might hit me even though I'm a great driver. Right? You don't think of it like that. The way we're wired to think is money is risk, risk is money. That's it. Outside of that, nothing is risky. But in reality, everything around us is risky. And that's how you have to look at it. You can't just look at it from one aspect and say, well, you know, stocks are risky. No, stocks are not risky. Stocks are only risky if you don't know what you're doing. Swimming is risky if you don't know how to swim. But if you know how to swim, is swimming risky? No. So it's like it aggravates me because it's like you guys are applying risk to something that you have no knowled about but if you have knowledge about it, it's not really risky.
