Prop traders face a catch-22: win too much and the firm raises your profit target, tanking your payout odds. The fix is deliberately smaller wins using 1:1.5 or 1:2 risk-to-reward ratios to stay within the firm's consistency rules.
On prop firms with consistency rule, you win too much, then you have to win even more and more and more, and your chance of getting that payout decreases because your profit target increases by way too much. Automatically, when I'm assigned a consistency rule, I'm trying to limit my winners. What I'll do is I'll take a 1 to 1.5 risk to reward on consistency accounts. Sometimes I'll do a 1 to 2, but this is mostly based on the firm and the profit targets that they assign you to reach for payouts.
