Truth is in the eye of the beholder. That's a quote attributed to Plato many, many years ago. And the truth is it really reveals something. What is truth? What is reality? And what do you think you're seeing when you're trading? Ultimately what you learn is this. You're not seeing facts. What you're seeing is being filtered through your unconscious beliefs and biases and literally within the blink of an eye. Okay, with Gladwell's blink is you are literally perceiving a world that without effort you see and you interpret and you know. The big difference is here it's really all about what world are you seeing. An elite trader sees a very different world than a struggling trader. A struggling trader is still basically bound by a survival brain from many years ago that was very successful back then, but is no good at all in the world of trading. Whereas an elite trader has somehow figured out how to reprogram that brain to be able to take fight flight, response offline, and to be able to be calm in the presence of uncertainty. That's a powerful thing. How do you do that?
That's a little later. But first let's go and look at this. What we're really saying is this, is that in order to become a really good trader, you're going to have to reprogram the brain that brings forward a mind. You're going to have to reprogram it from the way it evolved literally through millions of years, for literally self preservation in the moment, to being a brain that brings a mind that's comfortable embracing uncertainty without knowing what's going to happen, without having the illusion of control. So you can see right there what really separates the really good traders from the struggling traders. One is the really good trader literally turns toward his fears and learns to master them. And by doing that, reprogramming, learning the fear response, then what happens is that the struggling trader avoids dealing with his fears. It may be through anger, it may be through avoidance of fear, but the thing is they don't want to deal with their fear. They want to keep the very nice little comfort zone they have that predicts their reality. They want to keep it intact, but their trading account keeps telling them you can't. Meanwhile, the successful trader, the elite trader, has actually said, you know, I need to turn toward these fears.
I know that my brain is wired for short term preservation. I know that that's not going to work. I have to reprogram it so that it's comfortable with uncertainty and probability. Now that's going to drive the old Survival brain nuts. And what you do is you see it all the time in trading. You know, it may be that you jump into trades impulse, you want to make things happen. You can't. If you're going to be a professional trader, or you may see, or you may see not getting into trades because of fear stopping you, that is just fight flight right there.
Yet somehow some traders are able to literally.
Like hack this whole brain and reprogram a new mind. How do you do that? Ultimately, traders always come to the moment, there's always a fork in the road.
That literally you are either going to have to face your fears and the beliefs behind them. Remember what is that, what is that truth business?
And realizing that it is literally your beliefs that are doing the seeing. So literally what a great trader is doing is their beliefs have been altered at a cellular level. Not, not, not like in a thinking level, but literally on a circuitry level. And suddenly those beliefs are really about, I can embrace uncertainty and not go bonkers in the process. I, I can begin to realize that uncertainty is literally what I have to manage. And I have to keep my biological system calm in order to do that. That's the power, friends. How do you do this? First, you recognize that programming. You recognize you're at the fork in the road. It's not going to get better until you decide to make it better. And it starts with recognizing that I have a brain built for survival many, many years ago. I do not have a brain that I bring to trading that is ready for probability management. I have a brain that is survival management. When you recognize that, you begin to go, oh my God. I now begin to see that my trading account is going to be pointing out the survival brain away from the new brain. Ultimately you're going to have to calm that survival brain down. That's the first thing that has to happen that's done through emotional regulation. But beyond that, you're also going to have to do something else. You're going to have to reprogram your beliefs. You're going to have to intentionally decide that you're going to interpret the facts you're seeing differently and literally move away from a survival based brain that wants to be right, that wants to control the environment.
Outcome, to a brain and mind that says you know something, there never really was control. What there was was probability management. And I can become comfortable with that. The brain literally with the elite trader is no longer equating risking capital with biological threat. It's just probability. That takes work, friends. That doesn't happen Naturally, you're going to have to hack your brain. You're going to have to hack the circuitry there, and you're going to have to reprogram it. Okay? One of the best ways I know of doing that is we're offering a group course in September of 2016 that starts this process where you literally learn what the brain's doing, what you're going to need to do to move that old brain about survival into a new brain about probability, and how you calm it down and then how you reprogram it so that you are embracing uncertainty. Okay? Rather than avoiding uncertainty. This is the big deal, friends. This is how you can do it. And it's really up to you. This is your fork in the road.
Remember, the vast majority of traders choose not to change, and they blow out the capital in three years and 95% are losing money. How would you like to become an elite trader? This is where you can start. Check out the group course, check out the individual course, and really begin to understand the fork in the road between your survival brain and the new brain that can deal and embrace uncertainty and probability. That's the difference, friends. Have a great day.
Sam.
