Invisible Walls Breaking Through to Your Potential

A trader explains how evolutionary fear responses create invisible psychological barriers that sabotage your decisions. You trade to avoid loss or prove yourself, not to make money. Rewiring your brain to accept probabilistic outcomes is the only way through.

There comes a moment when every trader hits a wall and to them it's an invisible wall. They can see that they know how to trade, they can see they have the knowledge of trading, but somehow they keep doing it and they keep running into this invisible wall. And that invisible wall stops them from achieving the kind of potential that exists in trading. Every trader goes through that in his evolution. The question though is what actually is this invisible wall and how do you learn to master it? How do you get beyond it? How do you break through that invisible wall that stops you from becoming the traitor you could be? Well, it really comes down to brain. It really does come down to brain. The truth is the brain that you've evolved into is exactly what you shouldn't have for trading. Your brain, as good as it's been to produce the kind of success as a species that we have, is the, if you, if you were to try to find the worst case scenario, literally it would be the brain you have right now and it would be the environment of trading. It is so different from the world that that brain was evolved to work with. Because ultimately this is all about the way the brain reacts to uncertainty and risk. But understand this is your brain can't tell the difference between a biological threat and psychological discomfort. Now you experience psychological unknown all the time in trading discomfort, but it's not a threat. All the lions, tigers and bears are gone. However, the emotional brain does not know it hasn't been clued into that and it is built to survive in a dangerous world. It's evolved lightning fast reflexes that happen just instantaneously with different changes in the environment. Translated into trading is that you have a brain that has lightning reflexes called emotions that react to uncertainty. For things happening out of the ordinary in your trading day, your brain is just reacting, doing exactly what it's supposed to do. The problem is this is your brain is designed to control outcome. It wants to be right and it wants to be able to predict what's going to happen. That's what it's built to do. Even if it has to create an illusion of control, a feeling of control, it'll do that. In order for you to do that. Okay, the problem is you're busted when you get to trading, once you recognize, okay, I've got these lightning fast reactions called emotions to changes in the environment.
Based on engaging uncertainty. And it thinks it's a death trap. And you have a brain that wants to be in control, wants to be right, wants to be able to predict outcome, and you've Put it into an environment that you can't control outcome. In fact, controlling outcome is an illusion. You have the illusion of control that you keep buying into friends. That's your invisible wall. That's your invisible wall. It gets worse because you develop a psychology. You start trading not to lose, or you start trading to prove yourself. Add that psychology, that trading psychology, to the biology, and you have a serious problem that most traders never master.
It starts really, really easy. What you have to do is you have to come to a moment where you can regulate the emotion before it triggers in nanoseconds. That's the first thing you have to do. Then you have to be able to produce a sense of observation that steps back out of that and says, you know, I see the brain and my mind as something that evolved and was very good for the environment that it was built for, but it's not good for the environment. I'm asking it to engage. Now. A probability world, not a certainty world, but a probability world. With emotional regulation, you slow down that reactiveness. With mindfulness, you begin to say, how do I shape this? And you begin to realize that you don't have a brain. The brain has you. The difference is, as human being, you get to be the designer of the way that brain interacts with uncertainty and risk. And until you do that, you're stuck with a caveman brain.
That's the way it is, friends. So you have to actually say, okay, I know this brain's not going to work. I have to develop it differently. Fortunately, that brain is very plastic. It's very moldable, it's very adaptive. The difference is, are you going to allow it to adapt? Are you going to direct it to be able to handle uncertainty, to become comfortable with uncertainty, Literally not knowing, accepting that no matter how much you may want to know, you don't know what's going to happen. And prepare for that. That's how it's done. Friends, my encouragement is go to our website, start looking, and really beginning to realize how the brain can be retrained to be able to accept the uncertainty of trading. The probability mind, not the survival instinct mind. This is where it's at. Friends, I welcome you to take a look at the website and really explore how you can train that brain to produce a completely different mind that you bring into the moment of performance.
Because ultimately, you don't control outcome. You never did. That was an illusion. That's the wall you keep running into. You want to, but you can't. What you can control, though, is the mind that you bring to engage uncertainty. Come and learn, friends. Come and learn. Look at our group courses. Look at our individual courses. Look at my book. Look at our free book. Take a look at it. See the articles, see the videos and learn about how you can develop your brain and produce a mind that engages uncertainty with comfort. Thank you.
