Opening Your Eyes to Mindful Trading

A short spoken monologue (YouTube video) by Kardec Trader arguing that traders routinely get stuck in a single frame of reference when reading market data, which leads to misinterpretation and poor outcomes. The speaker uses an anecdote about a doctor with high-functioning autism who—after transient neurological stimulation—briefly perceived others' emotional states, illustrating how a change in frame of reference reveals what was previously invisible. The work emphasizes developing emotional regulation, mindfulness, and metacognition so traders can "see what they are not seeing" and thus achieve consistent, profitable trading.
Have you ever thought what you're really seeing when you look at data on a chart or feeds? It's like, do you see facts? Or when you see that data.
Do you see what you want to see? Do you see what your beliefs ask you to see? Let's think about this, okay? I'm going to give you an example of something that at first is a little off, but it's so targeted. Recently I read a report where this doctor always had been really good at solving problems, but she never could understand why people didn't appreciate her solving problems later in her life. I mean, she had really gotten excluded and stuff like that a lot. And then later in life, she discovered that she was high functioning autistic Asperger's. Okay. Then at some moment, she decided to sign up for an experiment where they ran a magnet across her head. In that moment, what happened was that something happened in her neurology that caused her to be able to see from a different frame of reference. In that different frame of reference, suddenly what she could do, she could see the way other people actually were emoting. She did not have access to that emoting architecture. And when she saw it, she said, oh my God, I totally understand that they've been thinking that I'm trying to solve their problems and barge in and think they're stupid, when in fact what they were really doing is they were just interacting with one another. That only lasted for about an hour and then it was gone. Then she came back and she was just simply stuck in the frame of reference that she was in before. She had been stuck in one frame of reference and had not been able to see something that had been right in front of her eyes. What I want to ask, in your trading, when you're looking at markets, when you're looking at data, when you're looking at signals, when you look at the data, what are you seeing? They get stuck in this frame of reference, just like traders do. And you get, when you're stuck there, you don't see that you're interpreting one way in the same way that you can be looking at data at one time in one frame of reference. And then all of a sudden things heat up and you start realizing, oh my God, the trade's happening, it's warming up, I could lose something. And all of a sudden you start losing that frame of reference and suddenly you're no longer able to see. Just. Just like this doctor couldn't see the emotionality of the people that had been rejecting her. And suddenly that's the same thing that happens with traders. Ultimately, if you're going to get really good in trading, what you're going to have to do is you're going to have to be able to literally see what you have not been able to see. You're going to have to really design new eyes so that when you're looking at data, you know what emotional frame you're actually looking from, rather than simply saying, you know, this is the one I've got. It's this frame of reference that you need to become competent to be able to check and to see. Most traders never see that. How they're stuck in one place, they don't see that, and it costs them every time. Learning how to do that begins with emotional regulation and then has to occur the mindfulness, the metacognition, where you're learning to step back out of that frame of reference and to see that that's only one frame of reference within a multitude of other frames of references. And ultimately, in trading, the only one that matters is the one that shows success in the trading account. It's showing you that you're pulling capital out of the markets. That's the one that has to be developed.
With metacognition and then beginning to find how to build a state of mind to build the frame of reference. That's the transition between an okay trader and a trader who is consistently profitable in producing a sustainable income. It's not going to be done without work because you really do have to learn how to see what you're not seeing.
That's hard work. It takes the ability of producing the mindfulness, the emotional regulation, and building the mind. If you want to learn more about how to do that, come to our website.
