Every trader must know the potential move of each trade and decide in advance how much they're willing to lose. If you can't tolerate a $1,000 loss, reduce position size or skip the trade. Set a stop-loss and stick to it.

Most important thing, and it doesn't matter if you're the beginner or the advanced trader, is this risk. You have to know your risk. On options, your plus/minus 5-10%, you know how much you're risking, but you have to accept that risk. When you're going into a trade, just don't stick to that amount of the money. Just let it go if the price is gonna touch the stop loss, because you never know if the trade is going to be successful or not. You have to accept the case that you are losing money. If you are unable to accept the risk, then it means that you either have to size down or just don't take the trade at all. If you can accept, let's say that's a $1K of the risk that you're putting into the trade, if you're okay losing $1K, if the price goes to stop loss, then okay, you can go for that trade. If you are not comfortable, go for $500 or maybe even lower than that.
