Two traders discuss how sleep deprivation and energy drink reliance caused burnout and killed their focus. They argue that mental health and rest are non-negotiable, especially when your job depends on making sharp decisions fast.
Some things I did wrong, and I want to kind of let early or young entrepreneurs know that is, I would think that I don't need to sleep, so I would stay up until 4, feel like I'm being productive and working, go to sleep at 4, wake up at 7, start my day. Some days wake up, drink like a Red Bull or something and start my day. I felt like, okay, I'm working hard. After a few years, I was like, well, I'm an idiot. Yeah, I'm not allowing myself to be at my full potential. I'm not able to think clearly.
Yeah. I'm laughing because I literally used to do the exact same thing.
Yeah. And you feel like you're being productive. You're like, okay, I'm being productive.
Your body burns out crushes, and then you really realize how much focus you're actually losing.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So that's what happened with me during that period. And then at one point, I was like, well, you know, the main important thing I have is my health. In my mind, especially in my job as a trader, I need to be able to recognize opportunities, recognize myself, recognize when to put on trades and when not to. So I'm like, if my mental is not at a peak point, there's no way I can make it in this game.
