7 things to expect when you work with me

A live-streamed spoken monologue by Katie McManus (business strategist and leadership coach) outlining seven promises and practices clients can expect: no high-pressure sales, custom strategies, transparent training and referrals, frequent truthful pushback, belief-building, celebration of wins, and tiered on-demand support (3-1-1 / 6-1-1 / 9-1-1). Informal, personal, and meant to help potential clients assess fit.

Hello, I'm Katie McManus, business strategist and leadership coach. I have so much fun with that. That intro because I just love the song. It's. It's ridiculous. It's ridiculous. I sit here and dance, and my dog looks at me like she's disturbed. Anyway, I'm so excited to be going live with you this evening. Today is June 2nd. I can't believe we're this far into the year. This year has just gone by at warp speed. I don't know about you guys. Anyway, I have this small intention of posting a live every day of June. I'm sorry, Posting a reel every day of June on Instagram and going live every day. Intentions are a little different than goals for me. When I do a goal, like, feels really crunchy and hard. Intentions. I'll probably go, like, live 29 days out of the 30 and, you know, hopefully do an equivalent amount of reels. And who is. Hello. Radha Fromage, Algeria. Hi, Radha. Nice to see you. See you. Welcome. So tonight I wanted to go into seven things to expect when you work with me, because one of the things I know about, you know, coming across coaches and business strategists and social media people in the world is that, you know, you kind of have an idea of what it is to work with them, but you really don't know until you actually bite the bullet, sign up with them, give them your money, and that's a gamble. And so I want everyone to be able to assess if this is the right fit for them, if I'm the right person for them. And also if you are a coach, if you are a strategist, if you are offering some kind of service to your clients, please, if you like anything of what I do for my clients, rip it off. Okay. I find it works really well, and I invite you to try it yourself. And I'm going to be throwing treats at my dog to keep her quiet. Pretty sure she's just trained me at this point to give her treats when she barks. While I'm going live, we're gonna have to get some obedience training on that. And. Hi, Asher. Welcome, welcome. It's great to see you. Okay, so we're just gonna go down the list. Okay. Came up with seven things. There are more things, and that some of them may be redundant. We'll find out number One, when you work with me, I will never, ever, ever, ever pressure you into becoming my client, okay? I consider it my duty from the very first second we get on the phone together to point you in the right direction for you, okay? That does not always mean that I get your money, okay? That does not always mean that you become a paying client of mine. And that's okay, because I'm a big believer of karmic theft, okay? And what karmic theft is is that if you're not the right client for me, if I pressure you into becoming my client, there's another service provider, another coach, another person out there who should have been working with you, who I've stolen business from, and I don't want to do that. I also know that the type of work that I do, my clients are already feeling a shit ton of pressure to make it work. And they're already being bombarded by messaging that's pressuring them to buy this, do that. You don't need that from me. What you need from me is a very honest assessment of what I see for us, what I see in you, and a general idea of what it would be like to have me on your team. And if you're ready for that and you want to be in it, great. And you're excited for it, I am so excited to partner with you. But if you're not ready for it or you're not very excited and all that stuff, I'm gonna let you take a step back because it's not in my best interest to take on a client who isn't ready to do the work. Because let's be real. On one side, I want really happy clients who will give me really incredible testimonials. And on the other side, it's your business. It's your business. You have to be ready to step up to the plate. And I can't do that for you. Me pressuring you is not going to help that. So never, ever pressure anyone to become my client. That's number one. Number two, I get this a lot. I get this question a lot because there are a lot of courses out there. There are a lot of online courses, video courses, whatever. And it's all pretty much the same. It's like, here is my tried and true seven track, you know, step plan to build the business of your dreams. And it's not. It is the seven step plan to build the same kind of business that that person built, which you probably don't want to do because you are you yourself. You have your Own personality. You have your own goals. So I am. I'm always going to craft a custom strategy and approach for you. Your personality, your goals. And that's that. That's that because. And also everything that I craft for my clients, we try it. It's completely iterable. Meaning that if we get like, you know, a couple weeks into a strategy and they thought they would really like it and they absolutely hate it, we change it. Okay. I am not married or attached to anything I assign my clients. There are a couple things, like you have to learn how to run a sales call, but, you know, there are many, many ways to drive to San Francisco from. From Philadelphia. There are millions, billions. You know, it's the same for your business. There are a bunch of different ways to build your business to a successful, profitable status. And it doesn't. It doesn't need anyone telling you the right or wrong way, just your way. Number three is I will train you on the shit that I know. All of it, whatever is relevant and helpful to you. I'm not going to gatekeep anything. I will train you on everything that I have. And for the stuff that I'm not an expert on, I will give you the best references to. To trusted colleagues that I've either personally worked with or I've gotten some really good referrals for. This is only not worked out once. And it was a referral, you know, from a referral based on where the person was in the world. It was unfortunate, but that is my promise to you. I'm never gonna bullshit. I'm never gonna make stuff up. I'm never gonna, like, claim that I'm an expert in something that I'm not. But I am going to refer you to some really incredible people. Number four. I'm going to tell you no a lot. And not just because I like saying no, which I do, but because I know what it's like to have shiny object syndrome. I know what it's like to go squirrel and squirrel and squirrel and get super, super distracted. I think that comes from having adhd. And so my job, I see it as my job when I work with a client, is to help them stay focused on the thing that matters most, and that is building up their business. Okay? There are so many distractions. There are so many things that you can spend your time on outside of that, and you can convince yourself that it's helping the business and it's not. And so I will be that. That voice of reason to tell you, no, don't do that. Focus Here, focus back on this. I know, I know this is the hard part. You got to stick with it, okay? Likewise, my clients, when they are not believing in themselves, when they are doubting themselves, when they are like really committed to bullshit beliefs about their limitations, I'm going to call them on that bullshit, okay? Because here's the thing about creating a successful business. You can't do it if you don't believe that you can build a successful business. You have to believe in it before it actually happens. You know, there's, there's that Field of Dreams. I've never actually seen this movie. I've only ever seen like it referred to in, in different, like conferences and you know, commercials or whatever. Paul. And this is exactly why I heard Katie. Squirrel syndrome. I love that. I'm going to coin that. I love that. I'm stealing it, Paul. Squirrel syndrome, I love that. But so Field of Dreams, you know, you, you build this field and then the people come. Now building something, the, the idea, build it and they will come is actually also an inside game. And it has to be an inside game before it can be an outside game, okay? Because if you don't believe that this is gonna happen, you can build whatever the fuck you want. Nothing's gonna happen. You have to believe in yourself first. That's an inside game. Okay? By the way, I believe in you. I will believe in you even when you don't believe in yourself, okay? I will carry that basket of believing in you when you're too tired or too frustrated or too worn out or too whatever to even bother with the basket of believing in yourself. Okay? That is my job. That is, that is an honor to. That I am proud to take on. So I'm going to call bullshit on everything that you have against yourself and I'm going to make sure that you actually believe in this vision that you have for yourself. That's number five. Now number six is my most favorite one, is that I'm gonna celebrate every win that you have in your business. Every goddamn win you have that you share with me. I'm going to celebrate it with you. I'm just getting squirrels in the chat. I love this squirrel. No. So my favorite texts to get are ones where my clients are telling me, hey, I just signed an eighty thousand. An eighty thousand dollar deal which just happened recently with someone in byob. And it, that's. I'm ballparking it, I think it was more, hey, I just signed my very first coaching client at $2,200 a month. Hey, I just Signed. You know. You know this. Hey, I just. I just got my first contracting or, I'm sorry, copywriting, retainer for 6,000amonth. All of those things. I am so excited to get those text messages and those emails. Okay? Because your success is my success. I'm so invested in my clients. I get more excited for you guys getting. Getting your clients than I do for myself. But I will celebrate with you every inch of the way. And even the small things, even you going and doing market research, interviews and building your website and doing small things, I'm there for all of it. And likewise, that's the good part of running a business. Let's talk about the dark underbelly. This is a journey that is full of ups and downs. Now, one of the things that I am so proud of, that I offer, and I think it's one of the best things I offer my clients is that I offer on demand support. Okay? And the way I explain it is it's in three tiers, okay? So there's 311-611-911. So 311 is the easy one. It's like, you know, you have an idea, you want to. You want to brainstorm it. Sorry to hiccup. You want to brainstorm a bit, and you just want to hop on the phone with me for like 15 minutes and just like, play out the idea. Totally there for that. 611 is the question that's like, oh, my God, this is kind of time sensitive. A client asked me something. I don't know how to react to it. Great. Hop on the phone with you for that. 911. These are my second favorite calls that I get because literally, my clients, when they're upset, when something has gone so wrong or so right that they are just having an inner meltdown. Okay? Tears not. Or just like complete inner turmoil. I hop on the phone with them as soon as possible. As soon as possible. Because here's the thing that I know about building a business, because I do this too. I have my own meltdowns, okay? Not as often as I used to, but they happen. But the faster you can recover from them, the better off you will be. Oh, Paul. And I think you're going to the belief bit. And so many of us have conditioned ourselves those numbers aren't realistic. Why is that? Well, there's. There's a lot there. We. We do condition ourselves that stuff is not possible for us. It's possible for other people, but not for us. Goes into relationship with money, which I'll be talking about. In the days and weeks to come. But when you're having those meltdowns, when you're having that fear that you're gonna fuck everything up, having someone to turn to who can change the conversation on you is one of those most valuable things. And that's one of the things that I am so completely delighted that I offer my clients. It is a game changer. So, yeah, that. Those are the seven things that I do with my clients. So if you ever want to become a client of me with of mine. Sorry. I've been up since 5am because someone woke me up and I'm absolutely exhausted. I've been talking all day. So, yeah, I'll never pressure you to work with me. Your strategy with me is going to be absolutely custom based on your personality and your goals. I'm going to train you on the shit that I know and I'm going to refer you to amazing resources for the stuff I don't. Never going to bullshit you there. I'm going to tell you no when you need to hear it. And I'm going to call bullshit on you even more when you need to hear it. And I'm going to celebrate with you and be with you for those dark and gloomy moments because they do happen. Okay. I wish growing a business was all like rainbows and unicorns and, you know, glitter. Maybe not glitter. Glitter is so impossible to clean up. Anyway, that is. That is what it looks like to work with me. If you are curious about working with me, just shoot me a dm. I'm very friendly. We can hop on a call and see if it's a fit. And if I can support you in your goals. And if not, I'm going to point you in the direction of what could be right for you. And if you're already working with me. Hi. Great to see you all. And that's it for me tonight. I'm going to go. I worked out two days in a row. I'm working out again tomorrow. I have to go hydrate and go to sleep. Especially if someone else. My dog, decides to have a. An early morning again tomorrow. Anyway, thank you for joining Paul and Asher And Rada. And Rada. I hope I'm pronouncing your name correctly. Anyway, I'm Katie McManus, business strategist and leadership coach. Hope you're having a great Thursday night and I will talk to you all soon. Bye. Oh, and hi, Chris.
