Brave Biz Labs After Hours 2024 10 30

Recording of a Brave Biz Labs After Hours session led by Katie McManus with participants Jason and Lauren. The group covers hands-on TikTok app onboarding and editing (recording length, captions, saving drafts), platform-specific posting strategies (what works on LinkedIn vs TikTok), and a practical template for creating carousels and empathetic if→then call-to-actions to generate engagement and leads. The session includes design/repurposing tips (Canva, voiceover carousels, green screen), anecdotal metrics discussion, and encouragement to iterate and reuse content.

Hi, Jason.
Hey.
How are you?
Good. How are you?
I'm good.
Happy Wednesday.
Yeah, you too.
How's everything going?
Good. Yeah? Yeah. I posted my first video today.
Did you. Let me see. Wait, did I see it? I think I might.
I don't know.
I. I've had like a weird day where I've like, had a chance to, like, check in and do some stuff, but I haven't had a full on chance to, like, comment yet. How'd it go?
I got lots of engagement.
Yeah.
Yeah. I think it's going to be a really effective way for me to tell my story.
Yeah.
And dive into some of the details there and make it seem more personal.
Yeah.
So I'm going to play around with it more.
Yeah. That's awesome.
Can you use the TikTok app without posting content on TikTok?
Yes. Okay. And if you want, I can kind of like walk you through how you do it on. On the phone.
Okay.
I love this. Yeah. And I mean, like, for a short post with it, you got a good amount of engagement. You'll get more if you write like more of a post that shares more of it.
Okay.
Because some people won't re. Won't watch the video.
Right.
They'll read the post and then write a comment based on the post.
Okay.
Yeah.
Yeah. I've got like three variations of the same story now that I'm going to drip over the next week or two and then I'm gonna start creating some sub content that's like.
Yeah.
Targeted directly, like, at some of the broader topics in there.
Yeah, totally. Awesome. No, I think that's a great idea. And I mean, while we're. While it's just you and me, we can also just jump into the TikTok app and I can walk you through how you do it.
Okay. I don't even have it. I have to download it.
Your Body by Louise Hayden. And I wanted to do a little training tonight on doing, like, if then statements with your calls to action.
Okay.
Let's see if anyone wants to join us. You might be getting a one on one session.
Whoa.
Is there anything that you wanted to talk about today?
I actually wasn't sure what to expect tonight. I'm feeling really good though, because, like, the last time we spoke, I was feeling kind of down and I needed to take a rest and I did. And I'm starting to feel like the wind in my sails is coming back a little bit. Um, and I'm starting to take some small actions and so. So generally I just, I feel like, better.
Yeah. Good.
Yeah.
So bad. You know, and it's. When we're in it, it's hard to be like, oh, God, I need a rest. Because you feel so overwhelmed by all the things you think you need to do, but it's really the best thing you can do for yourself.
Yeah. Do I need to pick any of these? Like, choose your interests.
You're not. Yeah.
TikTok.
You can if you want. That kind of helps them curate what you're going to be shown.
Okay.
But I wouldn't worry about it. If you're just using it for the video capabilities, then don't worry about it.
Okay. I was going to ask you too, while I'm just getting this going, and I know this is a coaching call, it's like, about us, but I was just going to ask how you're doing with. With the election stuff coming up.
Oh, it's fine. You know, and it's. I. I know you're probably asking because of the thing I posted today.
Yeah, well, yeah, like in. In general. Like. I know. I know you had a call on Monday.
Yeah. I mean, I feel like I'm. I'm very much in it because I am very. I'm so involved politically. I don't know if I've shared this with you, but I. I do a ton of political volunteering. I do some consulting. I help.
Yeah.
A lot of people in the Democratic Party, especially in Massachusetts, and so I hear a lot of what's going on inside the party. And, you know, it's just. It is very much a part of my world. So this time of year is always a little stressful if there's an election going on. But sure. You know, it's been. This has been my life because my, My family's very involved. So, you know.
Okay.
Very much the same. But thank you for checking in. Yeah. I think most Americans are. Are really stressing out right now on both sides. I. I mean, you know, unfortunately, it has also been sold this, this belief that their world is going to end for a bunch of other reasons. And because they're in a culture, they don't believe any evidence that you're showing that they're shown to, you know, the contrary.
Yeah, no, it's. It's weird. Okay. I have it now.
Okay, cool. So bottom, center, the, the plus sign.
Yeah.
Okay. I always like to pick 10 minutes just because it get. Like, if you screw up, then you can fix it.
Okay.
Okay. So you should. You should see yourself.
Oh, it's asking me to hold on one Second. Sorry. It's. Okay. Oh, now it's asking me for, like, my birthday and everything.
Oh, okay, got it.
January 19th. I don't like that I have to scroll so far down to get my birthday.
Katie, join the club. What's your birth year?
1978.
Oh, okay. Yeah, yeah, that's a.
You're like, okay, that's far down.
Little boomer than me, but yeah.
Oh, my gosh. So many permissions. Allow, allow, allow. Okay, so I'm seeing my face now.
Okay, good. So just. We're not gonna. We're not gonna do anything with this video. So just hit record and talk to the camera and do some things. I'm doing it over here.
I see post and templates.
Let me see. Show me. Okay, so you want to go do 60 seconds. I don't know why you're not getting a 10 minute one.
Okay.
Are you in post or are you in story?
There's nothing. You have to scroll over to get stories.
See this? You should see post live. And why don't you have 10 minutes?
Yeah, I've got 15 seconds. 60 seconds. I don't see stories.
That's okay. We. You don't want stories. But I, you know, you want 10 minutes. I don't know why you're not getting it.
Okay, Your story.
No, no, you're not looking for stories. Don't worry.
Yeah, no, I can't. No, I don't want to do. Okay, so 10 minutes. There it is.
Okay, great. So I want you to just record yourself talking at the thing and just say whatever.
Okay. Testing, testing. One, two, three.
You keep going, Keep going.
Having a nice chat, talking about the weather. Halloween's tomorrow. Are you gonna do for Halloween?
I. So we do this. My family and I do this whole dinner out on our front lawn with our neighbors. So we have, like, this whole feast, and we give out candy and our neighbor gives out wine to the. The adults if they want it. And we have dog. It's also. And we freeze to death because it's cold and. Yeah, and then we come inside and then we go to sleep.
Okay, cool.
Yeah. Anyway, so stop right there.
Okay.
All right. And then I want to do this for myself so I can show you. And I have to record now because I wasn't recording while we were talking and all things. Okay, so over in the right hand corner, you're gonna see a little red check mark.
Yep.
Okay, we're on top of that. Do this for myself so I can. And then it'll show your video.
And.
It'Ll Just play on repeat.
Okay.
Okay.
Now the top button, where it says add sound is that.
That's how you add trending sounds.
Okay.
The. We want to be very careful to go with commercial sounds because you can get hit or have the sound taken away or your. Or your video taken down if you're using it to promote your business.
Okay.
Right. So you don't necessarily have to do that unless you're doing, like, trends or if you're dancing.
Okay.
Okay. So don't worry about that. But so top corner, we have, like, this kind of rectangle that has arrows on either side.
Yeah.
Tap on that. You get this. And this is where, like, if you. If you wanted to say. If I wanted to cut off, like, the first, like, three seconds, I could do that. It would just come here and go to edit, and I would split and I would take that first bit and I would delete it.
Edit, Split and delete. Oh, I edited. I actually took out, like. Is there a way to undo it once you've done it?
Yeah. Over in the. Over here. Look over here. There's a back button.
Yeah. So. What does the split do?
The split. So say I wanted to split it. So split it turns it into two different things or, you know, clips. So basically, say you have a big pause in the middle, and if you stop, like, right after you stop speaking in the first one and you split it and you have, like, you know, 15 seconds of pause, you can go in and then you can actually drag it to bring it exactly where you start speaking again.
Okay.
Right. So this is like, you don't have to worry about memorizing anything.
Right.
Right. You can also, when you're recording, you can say something. You can record. Say something, stop record, and then. And then record and say the next thing that you want to do.
Okay.
Right. Okay. So play with this. You're gonna.
Yeah.
You're gonna get better at it as you go. And there are a lot of different things you can do. I would honestly just make up things that you don't really wanna post and just with all the features you can do. And then a really cool thing you can do also is if you go to the arrow down below, you can tap on captions and it will. It will do auto captions.
Okay.
And then you can edit them. You see a little A that's in the box.
Yeah.
So you can go and you can do different styles. You can do different colors.
Okay.
Background.
Do you do all this on your phone or do you do it on your computer?
I do it all on my phone.
Do you?
You can do it on your computer, too, but it's just that's. It's different technology that works on your computer.
Okay. Because TikTok doesn't go on a computer at all. It's all phone. Right.
It does have a computer interface, but it's not. It's not like.
Yeah, okay.
Yeah. So. And then if you wanted to edit any of the captions, you would just go. You tap on it and it lets you edit different things.
Okay.
Okay, now, okay, so let's say you've got. You've gotten the captions. You have them where you want. You're going to hit save. And you can drag these around. Right. You can move them wherever you want. Now, something to remember is if you do want to post on TikTok, you're going to have like graphics here, here, and up here. So you want to keep things pretty much in this space.
Right, Right.
But if you're not going to be posting on Tik Tok, it doesn't matter. So what we want to do is over on the. On the right hand side, at the very, very bottom of this menu, there's a save button.
Why am I not seeing anything on the side there?
So is there an arrow down?
It looks like this.
Oh, you have to hit save. You have to. Top right corner, hit save.
Okay. I guess it. Damn it, lost it. So I think I got out of it. Is there a way to, like, get back to it?
You have to show me what you're seeing because I can't tell you what I.
Without like, I. I hit next not save. And it took me out of it.
Okay, so X out of that top left corner.
Yeah. And like, is there a drafts folder or something?
Yeah. If you go to your profile.
Y. That's my story profile. Okay. Oh, there's a draft.
Okay, cool. So tap on that.
Okay.
Okay. And are you seeing this? Okay, so you push it down. Like, bring it down so I can see the top bit. No, down, down. Okay, so X out of. Hold on. Edit. Yeah, go to edit.
Okay.
And you're back here.
Now I see everything on the side.
Okay. So on the side you have that little arrow at the very bottom that's pointing down.
Yeah.
Tap on that and scroll all the options down until you see the save button.
Okay.
Okay. And then tap save and it'll have the circle of death for a little bit. It takes a little while. And then it should be saved to your camera roll without any of the TikTok graphics.
Okay, There it is.
Okay, cool.
Cool. Yeah.
That is Tik Tok definitely going to.
Require some playing around with, but it's good because like I had, I had somebody like I, I paid someone to help me like do a first script for the first video and get the first one done because I was kind of anxious just to do it myself.
Yeah.
But I wanted, I want to be able to like take that task on and not be paying someone for it. So this is, it was only like a one time, like.
Right.
Bucks.
Yeah.
For her to film. She filmed like three videos for me.
Awesome. Yeah. So I mean, perfect for right now. You're going to practice this and you're going to, it's going to be so fast. It's going to be so easy for you to just like spit out video content.
Yeah.
Because you're going to get better at it.
Okay.
Right. And the cool is that like when, so when you're creating video content for TikTok, there's very specific things you need to do to be able to attract business. LinkedIn, you don't necessarily have to do that stuff. LinkedIn, you can, you can actually like tell a story because people have so much context for who you are. Because you also have to write a post. They also see your profile, they also see all this stuff that on TikTok you just don't have the, the, the real estate for.
Right.
You know, so the, the pressure is lower when you're posting videos to LinkedIn.
Okay, sounds good. Do you have any recommendations on, like? So the video that I posted today was like 2, 2 minutes, 45 seconds. Would you recommend like a mix of like some days it's a 30 second video and then some days it's a longer one. What are your thoughts there?
I think, I think that's a great thing to do. The 32nd ones, I would have them be more empathetic marketing, you know, reassuring. If you're struggling with this thing, you're not alone. It happens to a lot of people. I know. I was there. And if you want to hear my story, follow along. You know, something like that.
Right.
And then. Yeah, I, I would just keep it under like three minutes.
Okay.
As a general rule.
Okay.
Yeah. Cool.
Yeah. So, yeah, like I'm, I'm, I feel like I'm getting my, my feet back underneath me again.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Awesome. Well, and also like when you figure out the thing that you like doing that you're getting a good response from, like, that gives you a lot of energy too.
So it feels like there's energy there. Like, no clients yet. And one of the things that I want to do to attract the market research is once I get a couple of videos in, I'm going to take your idea of doing, like, hey, I'm looking for 10 people to join this cohort. And that will be a way that I will do market research to try to get a whole bunch of people to join in, either free or very cheaply and test it.
Yep. Awesome. Awesome. Yeah. And. And, you know, social media is not going to be an overnight thing. Right. It's like, you really have to, like, you know, do it consistently for a good chunk of time for people to build that relationship with you in the back of their mind, think, I need to hire this guy. Right. And also know that, like, every time you shift your niche a little bit, it does kind of reset the cloud clock. You have to retrain everyone on, here's how I'm useful to you now, and here's what you can hire me for, and here's who I'm relevant to and this and that and the other thing. Right, Right.
Yeah. Like, I actually had someone reach out to me today, and she was like, I'm a little confused. I thought you were talking about this and now you're talking about that. And so I just explained that, that, you know, this is an area that I have, like, personal passion for, and I'm testing it and trying it and seeing how it goes.
Yeah, yeah. You know, but I mean, it's great that you're getting that feedback because it tells you people are paying attention.
Yeah.
Yeah. Hi, Lauren. Hi.
I'm driving. So I thought, hey, this seems like a fun place to be.
Welcome. Thank you, Jason. We have to be a lot of fun. Oh, man. We were just talking about video content and creating it, different ways to create it, and posting it to LinkedIn and. And what works there and. And all that jazz.
What is working on LinkedIn right now?
So LinkedIn, you know what I notice works on LinkedIn for video content is that you don't need, like, the proper intro strategically placed like you do on Tik Tok, because people have context already. Like, they can see your name, they can see your headline. Like, it's all right there, where while they're watching the video, you need captions, like, less than three minutes. You also need a written post along with the video, because a lot of people won't watch the video unless they can read what the video is about first or they're just going to read the post and never walks.
But what about the like the LinkedIn Reels thing that they're doing, is that getting any traction?
It is, it is. Yeah.
So how do you get your stuff there?
But that has, that has written captions too.
So we were talking about how you can use the TikTok app as like an editor so that you have captions built in there. I haven't actually played.
Sorry, I'm not asking the right question. I mean, like you said, it has to have a written post, so I'm not talking about closed captioning like, that you definitely need. But like you said, the video on LinkedIn has to have a post attached to it. So, like, I can write a post and then attach a video or now LinkedIn has like a reels feature.
So my understanding. Yeah, but I mean, my understanding of the reels feature is that it's just videos that people are sharing in posts.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
Okay.
It's not, it's not like a, like a, a separate side of things. It's just a different feed that people can scroll through to see things that are shared in video form. That's my understanding. I could be wrong, but I'm not. Unless. Let me see.
Yeah, I mean, I don't see another place to. Luckily, I'm stopped dead in traffic, so.
I can look, don't drive and be on your phone. No, just kidding.
Yeah.
No, because, I mean, it's really only giving me an option to write a post and share a video with it.
Right.
Yeah.
Okay. That's interesting. I, I, I want to, want to get back into video.
Yeah.
But I think I'm just gonna do lives for a while.
Yeah. And we all have seasons. Yeah. Yeah. I wanted to do a little training on how to make, like a really strong call to action with an if, then kind of set up my screen. Lauren. But I will be talking through it, so don't feel like you have to watch.
Okay.
Okay. So I was setting this up for myself, but I realized as I was doing it, it would be great to kind of showcase this to you guys. So this is if I were going to do this as a carousel. Right. So I'm doing an Excel spreadsheet that. Or Google form sheet, whatever. And on the slot, the first slide of this carousel, I'm doing the hook or what the topic is like. So if someone, like, what happens if you can't get sales calls? Right. The second slide is like the optional context. You don't necessarily have to, like, talk about it like, it's super, but you can to start building empathy. Like, you Know, to have a business, you need to have clients. And to have clients, you need to have sales calls so that you can sell the thing that you have. But what happens if you're not doing that? And then we want to go into, you know, the number one thing is this. And then you can either explain or empathize. You don't necessarily have to. And the second thing that happens is this. And then you can explain, empathize. And then of course, the third thing and explain, empathize. And then we want to do a really, really solid if, then statement. If you have space. These two could be on the same thing, if, then statement and call to action. So, and what this does is it like, it builds that trust that you know them better than, than anyone else without them needing to see social proof. Right. Because a lot of my folks don't have testimonials because they're brand new. Right. So how I would do this? So, like, let's talk about this one. Afraid of asking for money. Right? So, like, the three fears that people have when they have to ask someone to buy or ask for money for their work. Right. And the context could be, you know, as a business owner who's running this all by themselves, like, to get clients, you have to ask people to pay you money. You're not going to have clients otherwise. Right. And if you don't have clients, you don't have a business. So the number one fear that people have when they ask for money is that people are going to see them as greedy. Right. And like, the thing is, like, you could explain where this comes from. So I could do a whole Scrooge McDuck kind of moment where people think that, you know, Scrooge McDuck is terrible. Who's the actor? Who. Oh, David tennant played Scrooge McDuck. Did you know that this is a completely ADHD moment? I love him.
Anyway, who's David Tennant?
He is. He was in Doctor who. He was in the murder mystery with Olivia Coleman in England. I'm forgetting Broadchurch. Broadchurch. And then he's also in Good Omens. Great.
None of that helps.
Okay. You can't be here anymore, though. One of my favorites. So you gotta go anyway.
Well, you gotta kick me out. I'm driving.
Anyway, so I might do like a. Like, we. We've been shown this model that people who. Who have a lot of money are evil when really, like, money just makes you more of who you are. Right. The second fear that people have is that people are going to say no. Right. They're going to say, no, you're not worth it. And. And then you want to explain, like, you know, hearing no is really scary, especially when you're selling your own service. Right. But for, like, a good business is only Hearing Yes. Like, 25 to 50% of the time. Like a business that has a really solid offer, which means you're going to like to be. To have a really successful business, you have to hear no. You know, 50 to 75% of the time, no is not bad, even though it feels like it. And then the third one could be, like, this fear that they're not worth it. I'm not worth this money. I've only ever been paid this in my previous job. Like, why would someone pay me this? And then you, you know, you can explain, like, you know, your worth isn't dependent on or your worth isn't tied to a financial amount. You could also go into, you know, we've been, you know, socialized to believe that our hour is worth a specific amount of time that companies are willing to pay. You're not selling your hour anymore. What you're doing is selling a transformation. Right. And then if. Then. So, like, and if you're still struggling, it. Or if you feel this, if. If you have any of these fears or all of them, and you're worried that you're never going to get this business off the ground. Oh, we lost her. Then I invite you to book a call with me because this is what I help my clients do. Right. And I want to talk you through it. So, like, did I solve their problem in there, Jason?
No.
No. Did I empathize with what they're going through?
Yes. Yeah.
Did I. Nor, like, did it feel like. Oh, my God, like, Like other people obviously go through this too.
Totally.
Yeah. But I'm not saying, oh, here's the fix it solution that you can go away and, like, have it on your own.
Right?
Right. It's like, oh, my God, like, yeah, I'm afraid of that. And, yeah, I'm afraid of that. Oh, my God. Yeah. That thing especially. You're telling me the solution for this. Okay, cool. Great. Yes, you can do this as a carousel, but you can also do this in a video form.
Can you make this available somehow?
Yeah, This in my personal.
It.
I'm gonna do.
I like the way it sets it up and makes. It helps me think through, like, how I would create something like that.
Right. Yeah. And I honestly, like, I was trying to explain this because, you know, I'm sure you have this experience with your clients where something makes so much sense to you and how you do something and then you break it down for them and you're like, oh, my God, this is exactly how I break this down for everyone.
Yeah.
So there you go. And you just want to make a copy.
Okay.
And I'll go through at some point and. See, I'll go through at some point and I'll give, like, more examples of what it is. Do you have it, sir?
Say that again.
I'll go through. So I can go through as I'm doing this for myself.
Okay.
And, like, copy and, like, what I would put in these things so that, you know, you can see, oh, cool. Here's what Katie's doing for her thing. Here's what I can do for mine.
Yeah.
But, like, this is. This is honestly how we sell without being like, do you have a problem? Do you want this? You know, like, we don't want to be the oxiclean guy, but we also want people to be like, oh, my God, that's me. Yeah, and that's me. And that's me. And that's me. And feel like instead of feeling like we're making them feel like we're this, like, holier than thou answer to all their problems, it's just like, making them feel like, oh, my God, like, I'm okay. There's hope 100%. If other people are also struggling with this, this means I'm not crazy. And I'm not just like, you know, not worth the money. I'm just. I'm not this and I'm not that. It's just like, this is the thing that's going on with my head. And here's this person who's naming it. They obviously talk to people like me all the time. Yeah, right. You know, and this is also a way that you can say, you know, my clients in a very vague sense, you know, where you're not saying, you know, the 17 clients that I've worked with. You're saying my clients, you with an undertone of, like, my ideal clients struggle with this.
Yes.
You know, and you can also do it on the positive side, you know, so, for instance, like, you want freedom. Cool. What do you imagine freedom to be? The three. The three types of freedom that your clients want. You know, and it could, you know, could be time freedom, it could be money freedom. It could be, like, creative freedom. You know, what does that look like for them?
I got a question. So when I hit file, I can see the make a copy, but it's grayed out. I just have the ability to download it.
Are you logged into your Gmail or into a Google.
No.
Okay, so that's going to be a problem.
Gotcha.
But once you log in, because it doesn't have a thing to like make a file into right now.
Okay, gotcha.
But once you set that up or if you have it logged in, then you'll be able to.
Okay, cool. Yeah, Cool.
But the cool thing about this is that. Oh, here's Lauren again. Oh, never mind. The cool thing about it is that, like, you can make. You can make, you know, 27 of these.
Yeah.
And use two of them a week and just reuse them for forever.
I like that.
You know, you could change the background color on the. On the carousel.
Yeah.
You know, who knows? So as you're looking at it, what I mean, and here's the other thing is that, like, the topic are all going to be pretty much the same all the time. They're going to be subsets, the same one or two problems.
Yeah.
Right. So, but like, you get to zoom in on, like, what's the flavor of that problem?
100%.
Right. Lauren, where did we lose you?
You were just starting to walk through. But I have heard this before. I've never seen it outline like that. So that was really helpful to see that spreadsheet and actually, like, gives me a lot of ideas for, like when I sit down on Monday to do a bunch of posts, like. And I. I talked on our last call about repurposing some old ones that like, some of them I think can be reformatted to be carousels and others can remain text post. But I like this idea of like, either carousels or like a combination of video and slides. And I know, like, Ali can edit that for me.
Right, Right. Well, and also this format you can use as like a live format as well. Like in your live, you could kind of map it out in this way. Yeah. Like, but in the context you'd say, like, and here are the three things that generally get in the way of this thing. Or here are the three times that you're really struggling with this and you need help.
Yeah. I want to start having, like, very hooky titles for my lives because the title that I have for the one that's coming up on Friday, like, I haven't sent anything out about it. It just like got automatically populated by Streamyard to LinkedIn and I have like a bunch of RSVPs not having done anything with it.
Something interesting because that's the first time I've seen someone share share from Streamyard for an upcoming live. The interface for how it's published is so different.
What do you mean?
The way it got presented to me on my phone, like the post.
Yeah.
Was so much easier to just hit rsvp and it looked like a lot more engagement than those typically do because normally just. And it doesn't really do anything beyond that.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, Yeah.
I think Streamyard is trying to compete to stay ahead of Restream.
Right. I mean.
Yeah. Which, you know, great. Yeah. So. But I like that I also. There's a post that Ali has put up for me a couple of times that like I had once posted to Instagram a long time ago. That is carousels that I made about the like fight, flight, freeze, Fun. And it's just me doing a voiceover and it gets like a lot of engagement compared to my other. To my other like Instagram and TikTok posts. So I feel like maybe there's an opportunity for like a cover photo of me with the like three things that blah, blah, blah.
Right.
And then doing a voiceover carousel, which for me feels like less video pressure.
Yeah.
In a time when I haven't enjoyed being on video, like for pre recorded videos.
Yeah, absolutely.
Yeah.
Yeah. I mean, there's so much we can do with this kind of thing. I mean, you could even do like a green screen where, you know, you're. You're filming in either the Tick Tock app or in Instagram and you have the slide behind you and you're like, cool. This is a problem a lot of my clients have. Right. And then next slide is like, it's very bare bones. But then you get to talk about it. Right. And there's movement and you're here. And then you get to the next one. Here's another one. Here's another one. Here's another one. Like, there's the. One of the reasons I love this is because, like, you can make the exact same post 4 different ways and no one will be able to tell the difference. No one will be like, I've heard this before because they're seeing in a different way. Yeah.
So what I didn't catch was the call to action piece. I was trying to reconnect. Yeah.
So the call to action piece is like, you know, you know, if you're, you're feeling all of this or if one of these hits particularly hard, know that you're not alone. I work with clients on this all the time and if you want help, then book A call with me.
Okay.
You know, and. And depending you can break that slide up into two, or if you can fit all. If you can fit it all on one, then that works as well.
Okay.
Yeah. But, like, you know, and really understanding, like, calls to action is like, bye now. That doesn't do shit. Right. We think about it as really solid if. Then statement where you're like, if this is true, and if this is true, if this is true. But if we're doing it, like, more of an empathetic way. Like, a lot of my clients struggle with this fear and blah, blah, blah, and we're talking about someone else, but the person's like, oh, my God, that's me. You know, and then at the end, we're like, hey, if this is you, if you. If you, you know, see yourself in this, or you're also struggling with this. No, you're not alone. And I help people with this all the time. Just book a call with me. It's just. It's such a natural thing without being super salesy. Right. And for coaches. God, I just threw my pen. For coaches specifically, you know, it puts the focus back on the problem that they have and not on me trying to show what a good coach I am.
Right.
Or, like, what it's like to work with me or what coaching is or why you need a coach, why this person needs a coach, whatever. It's no, like, you have this problem. I help people with that problem, or you have this deep desire, this goal. I help people with those. Those same desires and goals. It's very them focused. Yeah. You know, and the other thing I love about it is it, you know, when we say it in the way that they would say it, it's also very shareable. Right. Because their best friend hears them. Like, God, I don't know how people charge more. They can. They can see this and be like, oh, my God, my friend Christina needs to see this because she has that problem. So I'm gonna. I'm gonna share this, and I'll probably make a new lesson or something in. In heartbeat for this to explain it. But. Yeah, any questions?
And you make the. You make the carousels in Canva.
Canva has, like, a lot of cool, like, helper things now. Like, they keep getting more and more sophisticated with, like, AI without being creepy about AI. So, like, if I put one of my brand colors in, and then I look for backgrounds that go with my brand color, it, like, chooses pretty backgrounds that complement my brand colors. And then I can put, like, a text box in the middle that, so that like it's like framed with a color, with a pattern and Ali's been doing that a lot and it's just like, it makes it easier. Like, I don't really feel like I have to design. It's more. Feels like I just have to choose.
Yeah, that's awesome. Yeah, I'm very lazy when it comes to creating graphics. This is something that I'm really wanting to work on in the next year, personally. Yeah, it's just my brain doesn't think graphically, you know, but if you can make it simple for yourself and honestly, like, you don't even have to do that. You could literally like write it in the Notes app and screenshot it and just use that, you know, like, as long as you're getting the point across. I've seen a lot of those and it like, it looks bare bones, but it also like the fact that it's so bare bones, you think, oh, this must be important enough that they didn't put a ton of effort into, you know, making it look pretty.
Yeah. Lauren Howard was handwriting stuff for a while and I found that like visually appealing.
Yeah, Yeah. I mean you could get different, you know, post it colors and just write all of them and have different pictures. Totally. The problem is that if you fuck up your spelling, you can't fix it.
Well, and the problem with me is that you're. I'm left handed so like I cover up what I'm writing as I write it. So like, don't look at my paper till the end. But wait till you see when I, when I'm done. Because it's gonna be great.
The anticipation is killing me.
But you could do like, you could type something on your phone or on your desktop and screen, record it as you're typing it so that even if you are doing backspace or correcting or whatever, there's a human aspect to it while you're creating it.
Right. And then you just speed it up so it goes faster.
Right?
Yep. No, I mean, but like, here's what it is. Like there's just so many things you could do, You know, and, and at the point where, you know, we're all going to get bored of what we talk about at some point, you know, we have to come up with these systems early on or else, or else we're just gonna get to a point where we hit a wall and we're like, I don't know what to post. I'm done. Like, you know, and it's like, no, just go Back, redo the thing. Just do it again and again and again. And occasionally throw in, you know, personal stories and current event stuff and, and updates and, you know, you can change it from time to time. But also, yeah, you know, Perry Haydrick does this really well. I don't know if you guys follow him.
Who?
Harry Hedrick, Crackle pr. I think he lives north of Boston. He's constantly reposting the same, like, the same thing. Because, like, what he has to do with a PR is he has to set expectations. Right. So he's constantly posting something like, you know, client, like, can't you call in some favors with some journalists and like, PR professional, like, you know, know, favors aren't going to do you anything. Like, we have to have a good story. And he's constantly banging that drum so that when people get on the phone with him, they've seen it for sure. Because if they've been following him at all, they've, you know, there's no way they couldn't have come across it. And then he can say, listen, like, you know, I, of course I'm, I'm buddies with journalists, but like, they're not going to, they're not going to do a favor for me to help my client. If it's not a good story, it's not a good story. We need to come up with a good story.
Right.
You know, like, coaching doesn't solve your life if you're not willing to do the work. Right. And also, like, ain't that the truth? Right? Yep. Yeah. What questions do we have?
So I'm just curious, like, when you look at your LinkedIn metrics, like, how many, like, you've got like 17,000 followers right now.
Yeah.
When you do a post, how many impressions are you getting? And is there any kind of correlation between how many impressions you're getting and like, how many sales calls that you're booking?
I've never noticed a correlation between them.
Okay.
Yeah. Impression impressions, like, it's, it's not a good metric. It's just, it's not. Because it fluctuates so dramatically.
Right?
There is. And I was, I was talking to. Who was I talking to? I was talking to one of my clients. Someone. I've had this conversation multiple times, but I brought up the example of how I wrote a post last week or the week before where I got like over a hundred likes And I got 50 something comments and I got 1500 impressions. And that's normally, like, I'll get 1500 quote unquote impressions when I get 30 likes and 20 comments. Right. Okay. So it's. It's a crapshoot. You don't know it really. It doesn't make sense.
Right.
To gauge things by that. So the metrics that matter are a, like, engagement. Right. How many comments and likes are you getting? And new connections. Right. That matters too, because there's like, there's absolutely a win and people want to see more of your stuff. Right, Right. And then of course, in sales calls, but of course, like, that metric takes some. Take some time to like, come to fruition.
Yeah.
You know?
Yeah. The reason I was asking is because, like, I've been looking at my stuff and I'm like hovering between like 800 and like 1200 impressions on most of my posts. And I didn't know if that was like super, super low compared to like, what I need it to be in order to generate. Get eyes on the content to generate the leads. But I also can't really control that.
Yeah, absolutely. I think, I mean, for the likes and comments, the numbers of those that you're getting, I think that's spot on. And also know that you're getting better every single day with the content you create. Right. You're learning what works. You're also learning what's not working. Figuring out what gets you comments. You're figuring out what people are a little more shy with or. Oh, that didn't make sense. I guess people didn't understand what I was asking. Cool. Changing. So it'll get better over time. Yeah, yeah.
I've gotten more comfortable with the idea that people will just forget it if it sucks.
Yeah.
I mean, they probably won't even see it if it sucks.
Yeah.
Right. So, yeah, let me see.
My best performing post ever was when I asked for chicken recipes. And you know, I don't even cook. I know. Well, I said, like, I don't know how to cook. I can't even make a piece of chicken. How. How would you tell somebody who doesn't know how to cook at all how to just make themselves one chicken breast? And I got like a million recipes for, like, here's how to do it simply. Some were links to recipes. Some were like, all you do is put salt and pepper and do this and that and cook it for this long or whatever. One of the people, Katie, who commented was Heather, and that's how we met. Heather doesn't even eat chicken. She's a vegetarian. But the next day I posted the. That it was like my most. The most engagement I'd ever gotten on any post and it goes to show you that people are willing to help and all you have to do is be willing to ask and receive the help. And like, that got really good engagement too, because it was on the tails of something with super high engagement. But, like, it doesn't really matter. Like, it doesn't really matter what your message is, as long as it's interesting for you to get engagement. And then if you're strategic about some of your posts and I need to be like, more strategic again, like, I was strategic for a while. Like, then people are seeing the calls to action because then they get curious, like, who is posting about chicken? What does she even do? And then they're seeing some of the other posts. And like, that was when I was getting higher volume of strategy calls was right around when I posted about chicken. And then everything that I was posting that had a call to action was like getting some traction because more people were seeing my stuff because so many people had engaged with my chicken post.
Right.
That's really interesting. Yeah.
Well, and here I just actually pulled this up. This is from the last year. So, like, I float, you know, they're. I have really low engagement days and then I have spikes. And this is, this is really normal. Right? And like, sometimes I'll have something that goes like, not viral, but almost viral. Right. And then down here you can see your top performing posts. You know, one where a guy was creeping out on me online. One where a lady called me, told me I lacked humanity because, like her booking situation for a networking call that I didn't even want to do was. Was difficult. And I didn't. I opted out. And then also asking for a name suggestion for my cat, which I named my cat after this.
So.
But like, yeah, a lot of this is the personal stuff. I'm so proud of this joke. This is from when we were in Florida. Lauren and Lauren, have you heard of our burden savior? Anyway, but yeah, yeah, like the personal stuff, like, the more you do share and like get a little vulnerable show behind the scenes. Like, it does help broaden your reach because everyone comments on it. The next thing that you, you share is more likely to be shown to their followers as well. Because the algorithm is like, oh, cool, this person really liked this post. I bet the people that they're connected to will also like other posts.
Right?
Okay.
So that's really the importance of doing that personal stuff.
And sometimes, like, because there are certain things I talk about all the time. Like, I love when people celebrate stuff. I love dogs. I love cheese. Like Sometimes I'll get a tag from a random person, or I'll get a private message from a random person who's like, I know how much you love cheese, and I thought you needed to see this. Or, like, they'll make a post about cheese and be like, no one likes cheese as much as Lauren Lefkowitz does. And it's like, I'm like, I didn't even know this person knew me. So, like, the repetition of the things you like or the things you're into or the things you talk about, even if it's not the business stuff, still gets attention, and I love that.
Yeah. I mean, the time 4th of July, I will get. It's gone up. It's gone up. I'll. On average, it's like 20 people will. That, I don't know, will send me random hot dog things, and it could be a picture of them eating a hot dog, or it could be, like, random hot dog, like, gifts that they see online because it's Fourth of July, and that's like the. The Fourth of July food, you know? I hate laundry. People remember this, and then they send me pictures of their laundry. They're like, I hate laundry, too. And I'm like, I don't know who you are, but that's a cute shirt. Yeah, I love that. Yeah.
But it's.
It's wild. You know, the incredible thing about social media is people genuinely feel like we're their friends without us knowing who they are.
Yeah. So I've had some of that experience before. I've had people say, like, I feel like I know you when I get on a call, that kind of thing. So.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So. And I mean, really, that's. That's the first step. And honestly, most of your clients, they're never going to comment. They're not gonna. Like, that's true. Might show up to something, but they're gonna be a lurker. You know, that's like the quantum level of trust that you have to have is like you're doing all this stuff with all these people, and the people who you're trying to reach aren't even showing up in the comments or in the likes. So. Cool.
Yeah.
All right, main takeaways.
I'll go. I. I haven't been on one of your. These calls in a while, and I need to start coming to them more because they get me really excited about my business.
Good, good. There's another one on Friday. We'll see you then. And who are you picking next?
Let me think. Let me think. Let me. Jason.
Yeah. Okay. I mean, I loved a lot that we did today. There's a ton to take away and practice, especially with the video stuff. But. I think, I think my main takeaway is like just the idea of saying the same thing multiple different ways. Like that's something that I really feel like I've, I'm starting to understand now. And I think that's going to really help me with content creation because and even seeing it in that the graph form that you made it like, makes it easier for me to think about how I might plug and play things like that. So, yeah.
Awesome. All right, well, both of you know how to find me if you have any questions and I have to jump for my next call, so. Okay, everyone, happy Halloween and I'll talk to you soon. All right, Have a good night.
Bye.
