BYOB Bonus Call 2024 11 13

Group coaching call (BYOB Bonus Call 2024-11-13) led by Katie McManus with participants Monica, Yvonne, and Jason. The host runs a three-part writing exercise (what you don't want / what you want / what life looks like when you have what you want) to re-center priorities and spot immediate actions. Participants share wins (Yvonne launched a Printify shop), struggles (Monica had a difficult interview and journaled about it), and business questions (Jason's LinkedIn videos lost engagement). The host gives tactical advice on short-form video (three hook-driven clips, change locations/shots, use movement, edit), mindset about showing up during uncertain times, and ideas for micro-services (employee engagement/gifting).
Chapters
Hello. How are you? Hi. Happy Wednesday.
Happy Wednesday.
How are you feeling this week?
Just jumbled and not knowing what to do.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I have a little activity I want to start us off with because I've been hearing from a lot of folks that it's, like, really hard to identify, like, what your future looks like when, like, the world looks different, you know, and there's scary stuff happening. And I want to thank Yvonne. I left it downstairs. Oh, my God, Yvonne. Thank you so much, Monica. She sent me a hot dog mug. Oh, Q. Oh, my God. I'm gonna have to. I have to do a whole video on it, But I've been sick.
The best part is when you get down to the bottom, there's a hot dog in the middle.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's amazing.
I know. I'm honestly probably only gonna drink tea out of it because I want to see the hot dog in the center. I love it. Anyway, why don't we. Why don't we do celebrations first? And then I have a little activity for us, and then we'll go into Q and A. Who wants to start us off? What are you celebrating?
I'll go. Yesterday I posted well. So this week I launched my shop. I've been playing with white labeling for a long time. And, I mean, I'm just testing it out. So I. I created a. A shop, and I tied it all to my website. And so now you can buy mugs and T shirts and pillows and all these things with designs that I created. So that's. It's kind of a creative, fun outlet. Yeah. It will bring in, I don't know, something that's.
Were you doing it with what website?
Printify.
Printify. Okay.
Yeah.
That's cool.
I did that.
I do. They charge monthly.
They don't.
Okay.
Yeah.
So that's the one that I want to switch to because I was doing one with one that had a monthly cost and I wasn't selling enough, and I was just like, okay, I need to switch over to a free one.
There. There is a one that is, like, you get more and it's cheaper. Right. But, like, they allow you to set, like, set it up for free and play with it.
Yeah.
That's awesome. Do you want to share the link so we can see? Oh, yeah.
Although it didn't create it like a link. That's weird.
I mean, it worked okay.
Oh, maybe for me it doesn't. I don't know. I don't know. Zoom.
I love this.
So I originally set up a disc golf shop and created a bunch of designs for my husband because he's a disc golf coach, like on the side. And I was like, you could totally sell disc golf T shirts. We even, you know, he wears a couple that we created. Just never did anything with it. And I was like, I might as well do it for myself.
Oh, man. Yeah. And then honestly, like, this is a really easy thing for you to create video content around, you know, especially like the sweatshirt stuff. Yeah. Yeah. Awesome. Well done. Thank you. All right. And Monica, what are you celebrating?
I got, I had, I got an interview yesterday because I'm, I'm trying to get a full time job so I can get some money. And I got an interview yesterday but it kind of went terribly. So I don't know what I'm celebrating. I'm still kind of recuperating from it.
Oh, God.
But I journaled about it. I'll celebrate that. I journaled about it and I learned some stuff.
So.
So there you go.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. And you know, like, putting yourself out there is not an insignificant thing.
Yeah.
You know, and interviewing, you know, is putting yourself out there. So well done. Thanks. Yeah. Awesome.
The universe also giving you feedback, right? Like, if the interview went horrible, could you imagine actually working there?
I know. That's what I think that's where I came to is like, I don't think it's going to be a good fit. But it was just a bummer because I, it was such a cool opportunity. At least I thought it was until talking with the manager.
Yeah. Yeah. Tend to fall in love with potential a lot like relationships and friendships in jobs, you know. So. Yeah, I mean, this is a really good, like, catch for, for you to see. Oh, wait, hold on. Like, I don't have to get excited about it until after.
Yeah.
Right. Yeah.
Cool.
Awesome. Cool. So I want to do a little exercise just, just to get us re centered in why we're doing what we're doing. Right. What it is that we're excited to create in our lives and our work. So I want you to come up if you have three pieces of paper or if you want to like create three sections on a piece of paper. Section one. We're going to go through what we don't want and we're going to spend like, we're going to spend like three minutes on what we don't want. Okay. So you can stay on camera, you can do whatever. We can just, you know, body double. But I'm going to set a timer for this and I want you to just like Brain vomit. Everything that you don't want in your life, from, like, money, stress, to having to clean your house, to difficult clients, to having to wear a bra all the time. Whatever it is that you don't want. Okay? And then I'll tell you what we're doing next. And go. Okay. Whatever you have on that list is perfect. Okay. Now that we've cleared that out of our systems, because it's a lot easier to think of what we don't want. We're gonna do the next three minutes on what we do want in our life. Okay. And this is not checked by that little voice in your head that's like, well, is that realistic? No. That guy. It's just what we want, and we're not checking it against anything. Okay? Three minutes. Okay? Whatever is on that list is perfect. Okay. So finish up your final thoughts. The final list we're going to make is kind of based off of the list of things we want. If we were to have everything we wanted on this list, then what would our lives look like? You know, from our schedule to our practices, to the people we have in our lives to the influence we have. What would our lives look like if we had everything that we wanted? Right. We're going to do three minutes on this.
Okay.
All right. So who would like to share their lists?
I kind of don't want to share.
I feel very emo. Yeah, it's okay. If you don't want to share your list, then do you want to share your final list? The what life would look like if you had everything that you wanted?
I would be happy and be energetic and just feel like I matter.
Yeah. And how does, like, being energetic manifest?
I'm not sure I understand. What do you mean?
So, like, when you're energetic, what does your day look like? Productive. In what way?
Like, I can finish a project.
Yeah.
And when you're happy, what does your day look like?
Talkative.
Yeah. With who?
Anyone that wasn't.
Yeah.
And when you matter, what does your day look like? Jason, we're just wrapping up an activity, so hang tight. Do your wants and needs get centered? Are they the priority?
I think it wraps back to, like, projects and being able to contribute to something.
Cool. So there's an element in that that you can do right now. Right. So, Jason, just to catch you up, we did one list about, like, what you don't want. We spent a few minutes making that list. We did another list about what we do want, and then we made a third list about what life looks like when we have everything that we want.
Right?
And really we're identifying the thing that's on that list, that final list that we can do right now. Because oftentimes we, we benchmark things for ourselves, right? We say, okay, well I need this before I can get that. And then I need that before I can get the other thing. And then I need the other thing before I can get to this thing. When really, like, we need to look at it backwards. We need to look at like the life we want to live and just start living that way because then that will get us all the other things. Like those aren't rewards for having ever done all the work to get the, like the side quest stuff, right? That is genuinely the thing that's going to help you get there the fastest. So, Yvonne, I'm curious, what was this for you?
Well, it's funny, like a lot of the things on all the lists is already true, right? So I, I think that, that, that's powerful. Well, just a couple, I'll put a couple things from each list. So funny. Don't want. Because I've also been considering, like, do I get another job to supplement or do I do contract work or, or something just in the meantime. Right. Like the shop was another idea. But the very first thing on my list is no manager. I don't ever want to have a manager again. Like my whole career has gone good or bad if I've had a good manager, right? Like the reason I left my last corporate gig is because I had the worst manager I've ever had in 20 years of a career. And it's like, that sucks, right? That one, that one person is so effectual in your life. So I don't ever want to have a manager again. So I mean, that, that gives me clear direction of. Yeah, going after another job isn't going to be the thing for me.
Right.
So that was clarity. What do I want? I actually write like a list of 10 things that I consistently want. Go ahead. What were you gonna say?
No, no, no, I'm listening. Sorry I said. Huh.
So it was a lot of the, the same things, you know, things about like health and fitness, my, you know, healthy, healthy, happy, successful kids. You know, a healthy, passionate marriage. Like these things, I actually currently have them. It's like I just want to hold on to them.
Yeah.
Personal chef I don't have yet, but I, I like, I gotta figure out how to, how to make that work.
I mean, you got three kids. That's, that's labor that you haven't tapped into.
Yes.
Distress in my life. This sounds so privileged, but it's like, I hate thinking about what to cook, what we're going to eat. We have food sensitivities. No kids will ever agree on anything. It's like the biggest fight in my life of, like, they like something one day I make it, the next day they don't eat it. It's, you know, that's a normal having children thing.
Right.
But so a chef would help and so what would life look like? I'll go through this whole list. Daily routines around fitness, meditation, which I'm getting there. Being present, having present time with family, like connection time and family dinners. We already do that. This one. I don't have an assistant or team who helps me attain clients, opportunity, business, so that's something to work towards. I. I listened to this podcast yesterday and this guy said something brilliant. He said, all of success in life is a mixture of talent and energy. He's like, if you have all the talent but not the energy to bring it out into the world, it's not going to get you anywh. If you have no talent and all the energy, it's also not going to get you anywhere. And he said he's been lucky. He has zero ambition, but all the talent. But he surrounded himself with ambitious people who do the energy part on his behalf, which I thought was brilliant. Right. So you don't have to do all the things, but you have to find people to help you.
Yeah.
Strong boundaries around work, self and family time. I'm getting there. Lots of time for inspiration and time in nature and just cultivating meaningful relationships.
Yeah.
Like, I'm already doing a lot of those things in pieces. I think I just need to do more of it.
Yeah.
Yeah. Beautiful. Thanks.
Yeah.
And Jason, I know you have. You didn't actually go through and do the list, but is there anything that comes to mind that you've kind of put off into the future is like something that you want, but, like, you know you'll do it. When certain ducks, you know, fall into. Fall into a row. Does that work? Yeah, you know what I mean? I'm still on cold medication.
Metaphors.
Yeah, I know. Grammar and metaphors, they're just all jumbled up in there right now.
Yeah. Like, there's a lot of things that, like, there's some things that I don't want. Like, I don't want to be burdened by debt. That's. That's a big one for me. I don't want to spend the next 20 years building somebody Else's dream. Yeah, like, that's the biggest one. Like, and when I think about what I do want, like, ultimately I want to be able to make my own schedule. I want to be able to work on projects that make me feel like I'm working in my zone of genius. I never, I was on an hour and a half meeting this morning and by the time I got off, I felt like my, my battery went from full to empty just listening to nonsense in the corporate world. And so, like, I want to be able to work from anywhere and not have to be on zoom calls to talk about project management meetings where people are making shit up in order to be able to fill things green. And I just, I'm just so tired of that. And, and so. Yeah, but that's, that's what I want. I think I just want a time. I want my freedom and I want to be able to work on things that make me feel good.
Yeah.
Mm.
Yep. So what are those things that make you feel good?
You know, like, and typically the things that make me feel good are the things that get me paid. Like our, our HR person who I became very close with at my company decided to leave. She found another job. And so I coordinated like a going away party for her and I'm having everyone like write like notes of affirmation. And I went out and I bought a jar and we're gonna fill up her jar with a bunch of like, things like that. And so that when she goes to in her job, like, there's like all these hopefully life giving words in that. And that's never the type of work that I thought that I would be engaged in doing, but it's exactly the type of work that makes me feel like I'm making a difference in the world and I, I'd like to do more of that.
Yeah. So, okay, so I love that you said this because this, this kind of hints to a skew that we tend to believe in that like everything that fills us up, everything that like should be on this list should be able to make us money. That's not true. That's not true. Like, the things that are going to be most impactful in your ability to show up in your business are often the shit that like, don't make you any money at all. You know, meditation, exercise, like giving spiritual gift. Like that's a spiritual gift, right? Doesn't really cost, like how much is a jar, you know, and the paper to print things out and like, how much time are you spending cutting it up and putting into the jar like that is genuinely beautiful. And the impact it has, has ripple effects. Right. Because you're not just doing a good thing on your own, you're tying everyone in to do a good thing together, which makes everyone feel better. Right. It has an incredible impact on this person. I'm sure. I'm sure it has an incredible impact on, on their future job and the people who. She'll work. Is she.
Yeah.
Who she'll work with.
You know that there could also be a business idea in that.
Yeah.
Companies are so bad at engagement and especially as they're going flatter and blah, blah, blah. Managers are so terrible. Like even just offering a service where you, you know, give me 10 people on your team and you collect their words of wisdom, you put it together in a nice package, you plan a retirement or going away party. I think there's there. It's worth testing if there's a market for that.
Yeah, Yep.
You know, Date in a Box was an idea that takes off like all these like box subscription type things where it's like somebody puts all the thought into what you're going to go do. I mean, people are willing to pay for that.
Yeah, yeah. I mean you look at like legacy boxes where you go and you interview your grandparents before they die.
Yeah.
But I mean this is the corporate version of that.
Yeah. Well, my wife is working on a project like that now. The company called no Story Lost.
Oh yeah, she's interviewing.
But they write books about people's lives. Yeah, yeah.
Snappy is a big company that is all about companies outsource like end of year gifts. They say like, all right, give everybody 50 bucks. And it's just a website. So you give your employee a code and they pick out their own gift, their own end of your gift within a certain doll amount. I've used them. I was like, oh, this is genius. Because then, you know, as a manager or a leader, you don't have to give everybody $50 Starbucks gift certificates or you don't have to do something. Everybody gets something that they want. What a cool business idea. Right? Like it just. Yeah.
Yeah. So the reason I wanted to have you guys do this exercise is honestly like in times like, like right now where it's really easy to feel hopeless and powerless and get sucked into whatever is going on around you online or in, you know, in the real world, it's easy to forget what you want. And when you forget what you want, you often like lose your mojo to do the actions to get it right. And you start feeling like oh, well, you know, posting today isn't going to make a difference. Who cares? Like, when the world's falling apart? Actually, it's, it's that continued showing up that actually does make a difference. Right. And so everything that we have kind of like stationed, you know, beyond the point of like, oh, I succeed here and then I get to do these things. Those are actually the things that fill us up the most. We've just benchmarked them away from us. So I want to just give you full permission to spend more time on those things that give you joy and make you feel whole and make you feel grounded. And if you're still unclear about what those things are, then, you know I'm here. Right. We're doing extra support in the BYOB world right now to get through this topic. So reach out to me, utilize me. I'm here. Okay.
By the way, can I share real quick? I was in a networking event yesterday and one of the breakout sessions I was in was a woman out of Australia who's been a coach for 20 years. And I had said something about, you know, I was setting up shop because people are going to, you know, be more mindful with their money. And so, you know, and she said, yeah, don't believe that she goes as an outsider to the U.S. i've watched the U.S. she's like, fall apart about four times in the last 20 years.
Yeah.
And people are still spending money, she said, so don't even, you know, let that idea into your brain. People with money are still going to.
Spend money in, you know, it's. It's something that I'm hesitant to say because it sounds very crass, but when the shit hits the fan, people, people need to buy cleaning supplies. Right? It's not like, oh, the shit hit the fan, like, we gotta just button down the hatches and not do anything. It's like, no, I need cleaning supplies. I need emotional support. I need someone to laugh on the phone with. I need, I need support. People are far more likely to spend money on coaching through a financial crisis than they are when everything's hunky dory. Right? I hesitate to say it that way because it sounds opportunistic and insensitive, especially in the kind of, like, wake of everything that's happening and like, what we're looking at ahead. Right. And that's not why we're running our businesses. But I, I like, if you're going to start a coaching business, this is the best time to do it. If you're going to be supporting Other human beings mentally, emotionally, spiritually, physically. Now is the time to do it, right. There were a lot of, of folks who, you know, started their business throughout the, the, what was it, the 2008 recession. The ones who like, like buckled down and made it work were massively successful beyond that, right? The ones who gave up, obviously they were like, oh, I'll wait until it's a better time. They never got off the ground once things got better, right? The same with the pandemic. There are a lot of people who are really successful during the pandemic and then things drop, changed and then they didn't know how to adapt to it, right? And so some of them went back to work. You guys aren't, aren't in that boat because you know how to adapt. You've tr. You've invested in the training, like the things that you have done so far in your businesses, you're going to be able to do again and again and again when things change, right? This is a massive opportunity for all of you. When, when feel things feel like they're out of control, people will actually invest in things that make them feel more in control, right? When, when I was like desperate for a job at one point, I spent like a thousand dollars that I did not have on this job search course. I never even took it, I never even went through it. But it made me feel better to know that I had access to it as a good ADHD information hoarder. So just know, like, this is not a death knoll for your, for your business. This is actually a huge infusion. But for it to be a huge infusion, you have to remind people that you're here to support them. And part of that is you have to do the energetic and emotional work to make sure you're good. Right? And so you know what, your, your daily routine might need to change and adjust to give you more time for that. And that's okay. That's not a failure. That's actually a, like a great little addition to the, the Monica, Yvonne, Jason user's manual. You know, it's not like you know my user manual for my Fiat 500. It's not like it just stays the same for forever. It iterates. Right? Because we change. My Fiat's not growing a fifth. A fifth wheel, right. It's not developing a new. A new stereo system. We are metaphorically. Can you tell I'm on cold medication that my metaphors are getting this weird. With that? Any, Any final thoughts before we move into open Q and. A? No, okay, cool. Who has a question?
Okay, I have one. It's like kind of on the marketing front. I think I told you. I. So I had somebody help me make my first couple of videos that I was going to be posting, and we made three videos. They were all like variations of the same message. Okay, Right. And I released those over like, like a nine day period. The first video got tons of engagement. The second and third video, like minimal. And so now I'm at, at this.
Stage, what, what platform and what account?
LinkedIn.
LinkedIn. Okay.
Yeah. So it, it's sort of like I'm at the stage where I'm trying to figure out if I. Like every dollar that I spend almost gives me like, heartburn because I'm not, I'm not making money yet. So I'm, I'm trying to decide if, if I listen to that fear, if that's a healthy fear and I should not continue to use this person to make more content, or if that's like a completely valid fear and I should just try to figure out how to do it on my own.
Right. Okay. So I don't think you need to spend money on this. I think you can, you can get for free by doing yourself on TikTok what you're getting from them. I. Okay, so here's the issue that I see right off the bat is when I go to your page, that's video one, that's video two, Video three. It looks like it's the same video. Right? So I totally see why someone didn't like people who are on your feed or who had your video show up. They're like, oh, I saw this one. Because it starts the same way. Hi, my name is Jason. Right. Which is also not how we want to start our videos. Right. So I don't think you need to spend money on this.
Okay.
I think you, you get to trial and error it using either the TikTok app or Instagram. I think TikTok's easier because you have more time and really, like, let's talk about how you're scripting it, right? Because you can literally write it down. Like, see the first sentence, say the first sentence to the camera, pause it, read the second sentence, hit record again, do the second sentence, all that stuff, and you'll get far more engagement. Right? But you want to make sure that you're not doing back to back to back, where it starts, the exact same few words and you're wearing the same shirt because people are gonna be like, oh, I already saw this. I don't need this.
Right?
Right.
Yeah. I think, I think that, that for whatever reason that almost like the re the reason I paid her was because doing video felt like a thousand pound lift. And I was like, there's no way that I'm going to be able to do this on my own. So now I'm sort of in this situation where like. Okay, like, I think the real issue is, is like, this is one of those things where it's like, I know I need to do this thing, I need to sit down and I need to suck and, and know that it's okay to suck at like learning tick tock. But I have been like this, like, avoiding it, like.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So give us, give us like three, three things that your ideal clients need to hear right now. Right now.
That they need to hear. They're not alone. They need to hear that. There's freedom available to them. And they need to hear that it sucks, but it's going to get better.
Okay, Cool. So you have three videos to make and you need to make them by the end of the day. And you're going to be sharing at least the file of them to Heartbeat. Okay, can see the first one is, I don't know who needs to hear this, but you're not alone. And then go into a story of when you felt most alone and how you got out of it or what, what changed things for you, what made you realize I'm not alone. Okay. The second one is there's freedom and you have access to it. And here's the mindset shift that you need to embody to, to make that real or to really tap into that.
Okay.
Okay. And the last one is it sucks, but it's going to get better. And you can tell a story about how something sucked and it got better. You can use a metaphor. You can talk about your work with clients and how when they come to you, they're in the world of suck and they. But they have hope that it's going to get better and they realize that it can only get better with support. Okay, you're into all three videos in a different location, just with a different background. You can wear the same clothes, but do it like, with it. Like one's by the window. The other one is you sitting at your desk. The other one is you may be. I don't know how cold it is, but outside or in your car. Okay, okay, You're going to do it. You're going to do it imperfectly. You're going to do it and it's going to look shitty.
And.
But you know what? Like, that's the only way for you to get better. The way for you to really get into this and flow.
All right?
And you know what? If everyone else wants to do this as well, this is your work for the next week. Three a day. What are the three things that your clients need to hear today? And if it helps your perfectionist self, you can take no more than 10 minutes per video. Oh, We're not getting precious about calls to action. We're not getting precious about, like, is it speaking to my ideal client? Like, am I really doing empathetic market? No, no, this isn't about that. This is about you getting comfortable on camera and put stuff out there.
Okay.
Just doing it faster and faster and faster and faster. Just like you did the challenge. Right?
Right.
This is the blessing of being early in your business is that there's not enough people paying attention that if it's embarrassing. Right. I keep that in mind. It's like, okay, how many people are actually going to see this? It'll be all right.
Yeah, yeah. You know what, the only people who are really paying attention right now, unfortunately, are like family members and close family friends. We, we have a neighbor at my parents house who like, she loves to come up to me and she, she has a little drinking problem. So it's usually when she's been drinking, she likes to come up to me and be like, oh, you know, I've been watching your stuff and you look so much more professional than you did a few years ago. Like, you really look shitty a few years ago. Now you look better. Thanks. Anne Bada. I love, I love having past me insulted to compliment current me. That's lovely. Yeah. I don't think, I genuinely don't think it's her who is giving these not nice compliments. It's the, it's the alcohol. So I don't get butthurt about it. But like, those are the people who are paying attention right now, you know, and they're the people who are gonna like, look at what you're doing in the future and, and hold it up to this. No one who's your ideal client is gonna do that. In fact, your ideal clients, even if they are following you right now, they're like, oh my God, they're so brave. They're so brave. I could never do that, you know? And you know what? Like, regardless of the lighting and if you stutter or if there's a millennial pause, they're gonna think I needed to hear that today.
What's a millennial pause?
The millennial pause is record hi, everyone. That. That. That beat.
Okay.
Okay. And then the hi, everyone is another millennial thing. We don't need to say hi to anyone.
Okay.
Right.
I not only say hi, I also wave. So, yeah, I'm just super cringy over here, and I'm loving it.
Well, think about it. If someone's scrolling. If someone's scrolling, like, hi, everyone. That doesn't tell me why it's interesting. Right. It also doesn't feel like you're speaking to me, you know, versus here are three signs you need to work in data. Here are three signs you should learn data analytics to up your career and make you more valuable to your company. Okay. Convince me. I'm listening. You know, I don't know who needs to hear this today, but it's going to get better. Is it? I really need to hear that today. Right. Just jump right into what you need.
To say, and it's easier to edit it out afterwards because you can't.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I love the edit function.
You know? You know, go and go and watch, go and scroll and pay attention to the things that, like, you're like, oh, yeah, that. I want that. Versus, like, your brain will start getting bored, like, two seconds in if someone's taking too long to get to the point. And just notice, like, get really critical of other people's stuff. Right. Because it'll help you kind of notice what you do. Right, Right. Movement is another thing. So if you're doing. If you have your phone and you're recording yourself just like, falling into the chair, you know, that movement is enough to suck people in. Like, oh, what's happening? There's movement here. If you watch tv, and this will become really annoying for the next week. If you watch TV or movies, the average time of a. Of a shot is four seconds. So you'll be watching. I was watching the Good Wife the other night, and I'm just counting, one, two, one, two, three, one, one. One, two, one, two, 3, 4, 5, 6. One, two, one, 2, 3, 4. Like, they change shots so fast and we don't even realize it, but if they just stayed in one shot for too long, we would get bored. It's not visually stimulating enough.
I've also heard a trick where you can just record yourself folding laundry or doing dishes while you explain something really boring. Boring. And that will keep people watching.
Yep. Yeah. Who here has watched West Wing? Yes. Okay. So West Wing, it's about politics. Some of the shit they Talk about is really fucking boring, right? But if you watch an episode of West Wing, they do the walking down the hall. They're walking down the hallway. And when they're walking down the hallway and, like, where are they going? They're not going anywhere. They're just, like, walking the hallways. They're talking through really boring policy stuff, but you're paying attention because they're walking. So, yeah, we get to use all those tricks. There's a guy, I forget his name, and his content is not even that good. Like, he's not sharing anything groundbreaking. But he has. I. I like his content because it's. He always has something that he's holding that you're like, why is he holding an orange and, like, playing with an orange? Or why is he holding that thing? Is he planning on eating it? Like, what's the. What's the plan here, dude? And he's all. He has, like, ripped hats, and he's always, like, lifting his shirt a little bit, like, randomly to, like, show off his abs. I don't know, but it's like the movement. The movement is. Is just like, wait, why is he doing that? So you're. You're not even really listening to what he's saying. You're like, what is happening here? Right? I mean, not to say you have to show off your abs or your tummies to anyone, but, you know, just having something in your hands that you're playing with that can. A fidget spinner. You know, Monica, you have so many objects behind me. Oh, my gosh.
I have.
I. I have three.
Well, I have. I have too many. I have three right here.
Yes. I love.
This is a knife, this is a gun, and this is one of those cube things.
Feeling violent, are you?
They're stress reliever. Fidget spinner.
Oh, my God. I mean, you could even do a whole series of, like, here's one of my favorite fidget spinners.
And of course.
Yeah, exactly. I have, like. What's the random object on your desk? I have this old cigarette case that I. I keep some of the old business cards made in, you know, But I just thought that would be so funny to have a, you know, a cigarette case that I keep my cards in, you know, but, like. And it has, like, this little pinup picture on it. Anyway. Yeah, like, we all have that we could, you know, play with as we're talking. And people are like, what is that thing? So, yeah, so just. Just get into the practice of creating the video. Okay, right. And posting the video over time. You'll notice. Oh, wow, this worked. What did I, this one's popping off. What about it worked so well. Oh, this one didn't. Okay. And then go back with a critical eye. What about this? Didn't get people to engage. Oh, you know, I, I kind of had a big pause at the beginning. Oh, I did this. And then maybe you can just go reback, go back, go back and re edit that one video. Okay, deal. And then the, you know the, the Google sheet that I shared with you on how to break it down? Honestly, that can become a script if you're doing more sales inclined stuff. But don't worry about that for right now. But eventually you can play with that.
Okay.
Another, another trick is if you have content that you've written for LinkedIn, that is a script. Absolutely. You might need to change the hook because the hook needs to be a little more snappy verbally in the beginning. But that's absolutely a script. And what's fun is that it actually gets to be in your voice versus someone reading it and having to like, imagine what your voice would sound like. Deal?
Yeah.
Challenge accepted.
Accepted.
Okay. Anyone else? Any other takers?
I wrote down two things. I couldn't think of a third one.
But what were the two?
If you want to change careers, just do it and you can start now.
Yeah.
And yes, the job market sucks, but that shouldn't discourage you from trying.
Right? Right. Another one can be if the job market sucks now, like you're actually keeping yourself more powerless by not looking for a new job. Because what happens if your job goes away? Right? You're actually putting yourself in a far more vulnerable position by not updating your resume, upskilling interviewing, getting better at interviewing and looking for other opportunities. Right? Because like think about a year from now, if you get laid off, say your company goes under and you haven't worked on all that stuff, you're, you're then going to be in an absolute panic to get it done. Like, you might not want to change, but the best thing for you right now is to be prepared. Give yourself, give future you more options, more confidence, more tools to work with. And also like, if it sucks now, like, it's not going to not suck tomorrow or next month or six months from now or a year from now. Right. So how long are you going to stay here being unhappy? Like, the world responds to however much power you show it you have. Right? And if you want to show the world that you're powerless, the world's going to respond. You know, Monica, you have you have this, like, very, like, warm, quirky kindness that you can deliver really tough truths to people. You can say the no thing, and it's going to be like a warm blanket for other people. It's going to be like a slap in the face. Right. But because you have that gift, you get to lean into it. Okay. Okay. Thank you. Yeah. Slap people in the face, but. But with warmth and. And your personality, they'll thank you for it. Okay. Yeah. It's like, sometimes I try to post stuff that's controversial, and it doesn't come across as controversial because I kind of have the same thing.
Yeah.
Cool. So we have about a minute left. Any final questions? Even if we go a couple minutes or over, are we feeling good? Yeah. Okay, then let's do main takeaways. Who wants to start us off?
Appreciated the reminder of, like, when things are out of control, people are still, like, paying attention and reaching out for help, because, like, that's not how I am. I kind of, like, just. You freeze, curl up into a ball, and just, like, stay by myself. But I'm just me and other people are still out there doing things, so that's a good reminder.
Yeah. And who are you picking next, Jason?
Mine is just to start, like, recording. Just do the thing.
Yeah. Thank you, Jason. Anyvonne.
I love the reminder that a lot of the things I want already have, and just to kind of double down on those and then just start recording already. That's what I wrote down.
Yeah.
Yeah. All right, everyone, have a great day. Oh, I mean, I'll see you in an hour if you're coming to sales lab, and, you know, find me if you have any questions. Okay.
Be in a bit.
All right.
Bye.
Bye.
