Katie McManus, a business coach, accidentally sprayed her parents' hair with hydrogen peroxide while cutting it for their birthdays. She realized something was wrong when her fingertips turned white and had to tell them to rinse immediately.
I almost accidentally bleached both my parents hair. And here's how. It was their birthday over the last three days. My mom's on the 22nd, my dad's on the 24th. Even though I have absolutely no training in cutting hair, during the pandemic, they just decided that I was their designated haircutter. Ever since then, they have not bothered to get a new haircutter. So literally, like when I see them every couple months, I bring out the scissors and we do a little haircut because there's like no official setup. Like it's just in their house or my house, they have to get their hair wet and sometimes they get lazy about this. So I'm at their house for their birthdays and I like they didn't wet their hair down, so I just went their, you know, little heads down. It was cold. I made them pay for the fact that they didn't wet their hair down. Anyway, so I wet their hair. I, you know, brush through it, I cut it. It looks pretty decent, I will say that. But after I did my dad's and then my mom's hair, I started looking at the tips of my fingers and like they were white. Like, you know how the skin turns white when you put hydrogen peroxide on your skin? So yeah, I had sprayed their heads with hydrogen peroxide and as soon as I realized this, I told them both, go rinse your hair. I'm so sorry, I didn't mean this. Thankfully my dad's hair is already like grayish white. You know, it can't get much lighter. My mom is blondish gray. Right. So like eh, it wouldn't be that big of a deal, but could you imagine if I hadn't caught it and if like their ha could be really fucked up by that. I'm like a proper haircutter instead of just having me do it. So yeah. Happy birthday mom and dad.
